You can no longer buy a Showmax subscription: the service stopped on April 30, 2026. If you want to watch titles that moved from Showmax, DStv Stream is the separate service to check. This guide explains how to choose a DStv Stream package, attempt payment with a Coinepay virtual card if your checkout offers card payment, and troubleshoot a decline. It does not assume that DStv will accept any particular card.
What you need to know before signing up
DStv Stream carries a selection of Showmax titles and Originals, but it is not a renamed Showmax plan. A former Showmax account does not become a DStv Stream account automatically. You will need to sign up for DStv Stream and create a new profile; your Showmax profiles and watch history will not transfer.
Availability also matters. DStv says its streaming app is available in African countries where DStv offers satellite service. The programmes you can watch depend on your country and package. Check DStv’s official site for your country to confirm that the service and the specific title you want are available before paying. Do not select a different country or use billing details that are not yours to get around a regional restriction.
In South Africa, the DStv Stream tiers listed at the time of writing are Starter, Select, Sports, Movies & Series, and Premium. Package names and offerings can differ elsewhere. Older Showmax migration information may refer to a Compact package; do not treat that older wording as the current South African tier list or as proof that a particular tier includes every Showmax Original. Review the current package description and catalogue on DStv’s official site. Prices vary by region, so check its pricing page and the amount shown at checkout.
Prepare your Coinepay card
- Register and verify your identity. If you are new to Coinepay, create an account and complete identity verification before using card services.
- Open your card details. In the Coinepay app or 24/7 self-service dashboard, find your virtual card number, expiry date and CVV. Coinepay makes these details available when it issues the card.
- Check your available funds and card settings. Make sure the balance can cover the amount DStv displays for the package you intend to buy. Check any applicable card settings in the app. If you are unsure about a card requirement or your available balance, contact Coinepay support before attempting payment.
- Have your real account and billing details ready. Use your own identity, contact information and accurate billing details. If DStv asks for a billing address, enter the address associated with your payment details rather than inventing a local address.
Coinepay virtual cards can be used for online subscriptions, but that does not establish acceptance at DStv Stream checkout. Payment options vary by country and channel. For example, DStv lists credit-card payments among its South African account payment options, while its account-payment pages list other regional methods, such as M-PESA in Kenya and MTN Mobile Money in Ghana. Those account-payment lists do not guarantee that the same methods appear when buying a streaming package online. Follow the options actually shown in your checkout.
How to subscribe to DStv Stream and attempt card payment
- Go to DStv’s official site for your country. Find its streaming packages rather than an old Showmax subscription page. Confirm that DStv Stream is offered where you live and review the package contents.
- Select the package you want. Compare the current tiers, the titles available in your country and the price displayed for your selection. If you are seeking a specific former Showmax series or film, check its availability rather than relying on an older migration announcement.
- Set up your DStv account. DStv describes its new streaming flow as selecting a package, setting up an account, setting up payment and then streaming. Enter your real details and create your new streaming profile. If you already have a DStv decoder subscription, check DStv’s option to link that package to streaming before buying a separate subscription.
- Review the payment screen. If the checkout offers a card option, check its stated card requirements. Enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV, plus accurate billing information wherever requested. Do not assume that card acceptance on a DStv account-payment page applies to your particular streaming checkout.
- Complete any security prompt and confirm. If a card-authentication step appears, follow the instructions presented. Review the charge and subscription terms before confirming. Do not repeatedly submit a payment if the result is unclear; first check whether the transaction or subscription appears in your accounts.
- Verify access. Check your DStv confirmation and sign in to DStv Stream with the account you created. If payment appears to have gone through but access is missing, use DStv’s account support for the subscription and Coinepay support for questions about your card transaction.
If your card is declined
A declined payment does not, by itself, identify the cause. Read the message on DStv’s checkout, check your Coinepay transaction information and work through the relevant checks below. Card eligibility and security decisions can depend on the payment channel and the merchant’s rules.
Insufficient balance or a different final amount
Compare the amount DStv asks you to confirm with the funds available on your Coinepay card. Do not rely on an older Showmax price, a promotional offer from the 2026 migration or a DStv price quoted for a different country. If the amount or a pending transaction is unclear, check the Coinepay app or ask support before trying again.
Billing details do not match
Recheck the name and address you entered, where requested, against your real billing details. Correct typing mistakes, but do not substitute a fabricated address or another person’s identity. If the checkout requires billing information you cannot accurately provide, ask DStv about its requirements rather than guessing.
3-D Secure or card authentication does not complete
Finish any authentication step that appears, then return to the checkout to see whether payment succeeded. DStv documents an online credit-card error 4019 (“undetermined ECI 07”), which can mean its system cannot determine whether a card is 3-D Secure. DStv advises contacting the card provider about that error. If you see it while using Coinepay, give Coinepay support the exact message and relevant transaction details; you can also ask DStv whether its checkout registered the attempt. Error 4019 is a documented DStv payment error, not a confirmed Showmax error.
Card requirements or merchant region checks
Read any card-type or country requirement shown by DStv. The former Showmax service’s accepted-card wording is not a reliable rule for today’s DStv Stream checkout, and card options can differ across markets. If a requirement is unclear, contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets it before you buy, and ask DStv which payment methods its checkout supports. If the service or package is unavailable in your country, a different billing address is not a solution.
Manage a DStv subscription or an old Showmax issue
For an active DStv package, look under My Products on the DStv website or use the MyDStv app; the app has a Payments section. DStv says you can schedule disconnection on its website by opening My Products, selecting the package and choosing Disconnect. It says disconnection takes effect on the next payment date. Check the terms displayed for your own subscription before making changes.
Do not use the former Showmax path of avatar, Account, Plans & Payments and Manage plan as a current purchase or cancellation instruction. DStv said Showmax autopayments would stop automatically when the service ended. If you have a question about an unused Showmax subscription, DStv said customers who chose not to move to DStv Stream may request a refund for the unused portion, subject to standard terms. Contact DStv about eligibility rather than assuming a refund is automatic.

No. Showmax stopped on April 30, 2026, and is no longer sold as a standalone subscription. Check DStv Stream for available titles and payment options in your country.
Will my Showmax profile and watch history appear on DStv Stream?
No. Former Showmax accounts do not migrate automatically; DStv Stream requires sign-up and a new profile.
Does DStv Stream accept Coinepay virtual cards?
Acceptance is not confirmed. Check the card requirements and payment options shown in your country’s checkout, and contact Coinepay support if you need to confirm whether your card meets them.
What should I do if DStv shows error 4019?
DStv describes error 4019, “undetermined ECI 07,” as a possible 3-D Secure identification problem. Give the exact error and relevant transaction details to Coinepay support, and check with DStv whether your payment was recorded.
