You can create an italki account for free, then pay for lessons as you need them. If italki offers a card option at your checkout, you can enter your Coinepay virtual card details there. This guide covers lesson payments, the optional italki Plus subscription, and practical checks to make if a payment does not go through.

Know what you are buying on italki

italki does not require a subscription to book individual lessons. Teachers set their own lesson prices, and you may see options to pay per class, purchase italki Credits for later use, or buy a package offered by a particular teacher. Check the teacher, lesson length, number of lessons and total shown at checkout before paying. A package is a teacher’s lesson offer, not an italki Plus subscription.

You may encounter Professional teachers and Community tutors while browsing. These are teacher categories, not paid membership tiers. italki Plus is a separate, optional subscription with monthly and yearly billing options. You do not need to select Plus simply to pay for a lesson.

Prices vary by teacher, purchase type and region. Review the current amount on italki’s official pricing or checkout page rather than relying on a price quoted elsewhere. If a payment-provider charge appears, include it when checking the final total; its amount may vary.

What you need before checkout

  • An eligible italki account: italki’s terms require account holders to be at least 18, provide a valid email address and, where applicable, a mobile number. Use your real details and make sure you reside somewhere italki permits the platform to be used.
  • A Coinepay account and virtual card: register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Once issued, your virtual card number, expiry date and CVV are available through Coinepay’s app or 24/7 self-service dashboard.
  • Enough available funds: check the amount italki shows at checkout, including any displayed additional charge. Check your available balance in Coinepay before attempting payment.
  • Your real billing information: enter details that match the information associated with your payment method. Do not substitute an address from another country to try to pass a regional or payment check.

Payment methods can differ by checkout and location. Confirm that a card-entry option is actually offered for the purchase you are making. If you need to check a Coinepay card setting or requirement before buying, contact Coinepay support.

How to sign up and pay for an italki lesson

  1. Create your italki account. Visit italki’s official website or open its app, choose the sign-up option, and follow the prompts to register with your valid email address and any other information requested. Complete any account confirmation italki requires.
  2. Find a teacher and lesson. Select the language you want to learn and browse teacher profiles. Compare lesson offerings, schedules and the price displayed by each teacher. Choose an available lesson time, or select a teacher-offered package if that better fits your plans.
  3. Review the purchase route. italki may present a per-class payment, a Credits purchase for later use, or a teacher’s package. Follow the checkout shown for your choice. If you already have sufficient italki Credits and the checkout uses them, you may not need to enter a card for that booking.
  4. Check the final amount. Verify the teacher, lesson or package, currency, any additional charge and total. If you are buying Credits, check the amount of Credits and the payment total instead. Do not assume a teacher’s listed lesson price is the final card charge.
  5. Enter your card only if card payment is offered. Retrieve the number, expiry date and CVV from your Coinepay app or dashboard. Enter them into italki’s checkout, along with your real billing details if requested. Complete any verification prompt that appears, then confirm the purchase once.
  6. Check the result. Look for italki’s purchase or booking confirmation and check whether the lesson, package or Credits appear in your account. If the page stalls or shows an error, check your purchase history and card activity before submitting the payment again; this helps avoid an unintended duplicate purchase.

A Coinepay card gives you card details for online payments, but a completed italki purchase still depends on the payment options and checks presented for your specific checkout.

How to pay for italki Plus

If you want the optional subscription, select italki Plus and compare the monthly and yearly options shown to you. Review the benefits, billing amount, renewal terms and payment method on the confirmation screen. A lesson or teacher package purchase does not automatically stand in for a Plus subscription.

Pay close attention if the screen presents both “Subscribe” and “Start free trial.” italki has distinguished those selections in a published response to a customer: do not assume that choosing Subscribe starts a trial. Read the terms attached to the option you select, including any eligibility and billing information, before confirming. Trial availability and terms should be checked in your own checkout.

If italki offers a direct card checkout for Plus, enter your Coinepay card details there and follow any verification steps. If you subscribe through an iPhone or Android in-app purchase instead, the purchase is handled by the relevant app store. In that case, check the store’s available payment methods and add the card to your store account only if the store offers that option. A card option at an italki lesson checkout does not establish that the same option is available for Plus or through an app store.

What to check if your card is declined

A failed payment does not, by itself, identify the cause. Note the exact message, purchase type and amount before troubleshooting. Avoid repeated rapid attempts; first check whether a purchase was recorded or a charge is pending.

  • Insufficient available balance: compare your Coinepay balance with the complete checkout total, not just the teacher’s advertised lesson price or the subscription amount you expected. Check for any additional charge displayed before confirmation. If you need help understanding your available balance, use the Coinepay app or contact support.
  • Billing-detail mismatch: recheck the card number, expiry date, CVV and any billing name or address you entered. Correct typos using your real information. If you are unsure which billing details apply to your card, ask Coinepay support rather than inventing an address.
  • 3-D Secure or another verification prompt: if checkout asks you to authenticate, finish that step and return to the payment page. If a prompt does not arrive or expires, check your device connection and any instructions shown in Coinepay, then ask support to review the attempt. Whether an authentication prompt appears depends on the transaction.
  • Merchant or region checks: confirm that italki permits use of its platform where you reside and that the card option is available in your checkout. Do not change your country or billing details to bypass a restriction. If the checkout specifies a card-type or issuing-country requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets it before you buy.
  • Security review: a learner has reported a refusal described as “suspicious activity,” but that report does not establish why any other payment was declined. If you see similar wording, give italki support the exact message and ask Coinepay support whether the attempted card payment reached them. Do not send your full card number or CVV in a support message.

If your bank or card-side records show an attempt but italki shows no purchase, share the transaction time and amount—not sensitive card credentials—with the relevant support team. If no card option appears at all, check the payment choices offered for that particular purchase rather than repeatedly trying to enter card details elsewhere.

Keep track of lessons and subscription billing

After paying, retain the italki confirmation and check that your lesson booking, package or Credits match what you selected. For Plus, note whether you subscribed directly or through an app store: that determines where you should look to manage billing. An iPhone subscription billed by Apple can be managed under Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions; a Google Play subscription is managed through Google Play. For a directly billed purchase, follow the management instructions shown in your italki account or confirmation.

Before changing or cancelling any purchase, read the current terms displayed by italki or the billing store. Lesson bookings, teacher packages, Credits and Plus are different purchases, so do not assume they share cancellation or refund rules. italki’s terms say it provides at least 30 days’ notice of material changes to recurring subscriptions, including price changes; still check your own notices and upcoming billing details.

FAQ

Do I need italki Plus to book a lesson?

No. italki offers individual lessons and teacher-offered packages separately from its optional Plus subscription.

Can I use my Coinepay card to buy italki Credits?

If a card payment option appears for your Credits purchase, enter your Coinepay virtual card details and review the total before confirming. Available payment options depend on your checkout.

Why was my italki card payment declined?

Check your available balance, card and billing details, any authentication prompt, and the payment options for your location. If it still fails, give italki and Coinepay support the exact error and transaction time.

Where do I manage an italki Plus subscription bought on iPhone?

If Apple billed the subscription, go to iPhone Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Check your purchase confirmation if you are unsure who billed you.
