You can use a Coinepay virtual card to enter card details at Codecademy’s checkout, subject to Codecademy’s payment checks. This guide covers individual Plus and Pro subscriptions: what to prepare, how the trial and checkout work, and what to check if a payment is declined. Review the total and renewal terms before you confirm.

What you need before subscribing

  • A Codecademy account. You can create one from Codecademy’s pricing page when you choose a plan. Use your real identity and billing details.
  • A Coinepay account with identity verification completed. Register through Coinepay and complete KYC before using card services. Coinepay provides a virtual card number, expiry date and CVV, which you can access in its self-service dashboard or mobile app.
  • Enough available funds for the checkout total. Check the amount Codecademy displays for your billing choice, including any applicable tax. If you choose annual billing, prepare for the annual charge rather than just the monthly figure used to describe the plan.
  • Access to any payment verification request. Keep the Coinepay app available during checkout. If an authentication step appears, follow its instructions rather than repeatedly submitting the payment.

You can manage Coinepay from its 24/7 dashboard or the iOS app or Android app. Check your card and account details in Coinepay before starting; do not assume that a card entered successfully will necessarily be approved by Codecademy.

Choose the right Codecademy plan and billing period

Codecademy’s main individual tiers are Basic, Plus and Pro. Basic is the free option; Plus and Pro offer monthly or annual billing. At the time of writing (October 2026), the U.S.-view pricing page listed Plus at $29.99 billed monthly or $14.99 per month billed annually, and Pro at $39.99 billed monthly or $19.99 per month billed annually. Those annual figures describe the monthly equivalent, not a monthly installment. Prices, taxes and available checkout options may differ by location; check Codecademy’s official pricing page and the final checkout total before proceeding.

Codecademy also lists Pro Student, an annual-only All Access Pass, Teams and Coaching separately. Pro Student requires eligible student verification. Teams has an organization and seat-count purchase flow, so do not treat the individual Plus or Pro steps below as Teams instructions. If you want a different offering, read its terms and checkout details on Codecademy before paying.

For a new account, a Plus or Pro Try … for free offer requires a valid payment method. Codecademy says the seven-day trial becomes chargeable after checkout unless you cancel before it ends. A temporary $1 preauthorization may appear during trial sign-up; Codecademy says the bank or PayPal eventually removes it. Do not confuse that temporary authorization with the subscription price.

How to pay for Codecademy with your Coinepay card

  1. Prepare your card. Sign in to Coinepay after completing identity verification. Open your virtual card details and check that your available funds cover the amount you expect to pay. Keep the card number, expiry date and CVV ready to enter securely at checkout.
  2. Go to Codecademy’s official pricing page. Compare Basic, Plus and Pro. Select Sign up for Basic if you do not need a paid subscription, or the relevant Try … for free option for Plus or Pro. Create an account or sign in as prompted.
  3. Review the billing selection. Choose the monthly or annual option offered for your plan. Read the trial end date, amount due after the trial, renewal frequency and any applicable tax. Codecademy says it adds applicable VAT to purchases and renewals in the EU and other VAT countries; the tax is shown at checkout.
  4. Enter payment details. If card payment is available in your checkout, enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV. Supply your own accurate billing name and address in the fields Codecademy requests. Check every digit and the billing information before continuing.
  5. Complete any verification and confirm. Follow any authentication request presented during payment. Confirm only after reviewing the displayed terms and total. Save Codecademy’s confirmation and check your account to verify the plan and billing period you selected.

Codecademy documents cards and other payment methods, but the options shown can depend on the purchase and location. If the card option is unavailable, do not assume that another plan or a different billing country will resolve it. Use your actual location and details, and ask Coinepay support if you need help checking your card.

What to do if the card is declined

Codecademy calls a bank refusal a “processor decline.” Its guidance lists incorrect card details, insufficient funds and restrictions related to location, recurring charges or fraud risk among possible causes. A decline alone does not establish which one applies. Work through these checks before trying again:

  • Insufficient balance: Compare your available funds with the full checkout total, not just an advertised monthly equivalent. Account for annual billing and tax where applicable. Check Coinepay for your available balance and any card controls shown in your account.
  • Card-detail or billing-address mismatch: Re-enter the number, expiry and CVV carefully. Make sure the billing name and address you provide are your real details and match the information associated with your payment account where required. Do not substitute an address in another country to try to pass a check.
  • 3-D Secure or another authentication step: If checkout asks you to verify the payment, complete the on-screen step. If it times out or cannot be completed, check the Coinepay app for any relevant prompt and contact Coinepay support for help. Whether a particular transaction requires authentication depends on the payment flow.
  • Merchant region or recurring-payment checks: Codecademy or the payment provider may decline a transaction because of location, recurring-billing or risk rules. Use your true location; changing an address to get around a restriction is not a fix. Ask Codecademy about eligibility for the purchase and Coinepay support about the card-side decline.

If Codecademy shows a past-due “payment was declined” notice for an existing subscription, open Account Settings → Payment and plan to review or update your payment method. Codecademy says it retries collection and deactivates a subscription after 28 days if payment is not completed or details are not updated. Avoid repeated retries without checking the underlying problem.

Manage renewal, cancellation and receipts

After subscribing, find your billing and payment-method settings under Account Settings → Payment and plan; invoices are available there too. Review that page after checkout so you know which card is on file and when the next charge is expected. A successful trial sign-up is not the same as canceling its future charge.

To cancel, go to Account Settings → Payment and plan → I want to end my subscription and complete the confirmation steps. Cancel before a trial ends to avoid its first charge, or before renewal to avoid the next one. Codecademy says paid access continues through the current billing period after cancellation. Plus and Pro subscription payments are generally nonrefundable, including unused time, although support may consider exceptions and applicable law may require a refund.

If you cannot identify a charge or need help with your virtual card, contact Coinepay support. For a Codecademy plan, trial, invoice or refund question, contact Codecademy through its official help channels. Share only the information each support team needs; do not send your full card number or CVV in an ordinary message.

FAQ

Will Codecademy charge my card during a Plus or Pro free trial?

A new-account Plus or Pro trial requires a valid payment method and becomes chargeable after seven days unless canceled first. A temporary $1 preauthorization may also appear during sign-up.

Where can I change my Codecademy payment method?

Go to Account Settings → Payment and plan in your Codecademy account. You can also find invoices there.

Why did Codecademy decline my Coinepay card?

Check the full amount due, card details, real billing information and any authentication request. Codecademy says a processor decline can also relate to location, recurring-payment or risk restrictions; contact support if the reason is unclear.

How do I stop Codecademy from charging me after a trial?

Before the trial ends, go to Account Settings → Payment and plan → I want to end my subscription and complete the cancellation confirmation.
