Hetzner Online sells cloud servers, dedicated servers, web hosting and storage out of data centres in Germany, Finland, the United States and Singapore. If you pay for subscriptions, advertising and other online services with a Coinepay virtual card, you can add that card to your Hetzner account and have invoices charged automatically. This guide walks through what you need, how to register and order, and what to check if a card charge fails.
Before you start: what you need
Hetzner bills after use and expects accurate, verifiable account details, so set things up properly from the beginning:
- A verified Coinepay account and a virtual card. Register through the Coinepay sign-up page and complete identity verification (KYC) first. Once approved you can create a virtual card and see its number, expiry date and CVV in the iOS or Android app or the web dashboard.
- Your real billing details. Hetzner asks for genuine contact and billing information and may request identity-document verification or a card prepayment before processing an order. Use your real name and address exactly as they appear on your Coinepay account.
- Enough balance on the card. Hetzner charges automatically after the invoice is issued, so keep funds available for the plan price plus VAT where it applies and any IPv4 charge.
- A supported card network. Hetzner lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express and UnionPay for card payments, with UnionPay excluded from automatic charging. If you are unsure your Coinepay card matches an accepted network, contact Coinepay support to confirm before you order.
Step 1: Create your Hetzner account
- Go to accounts.hetzner.com/login and choose Register Now.
- Enter your contact and billing information.
- Choose EUR or USD as your account currency. This is important: Hetzner says the account currency cannot be changed afterwards, so pick the one you want to be billed in.
- Open the verification link Hetzner emails you, then sign in.
Hetzner may ask for an identity document or a credit-card prepayment before it processes your first order, and it lists incomplete or inaccurate registration details, outstanding invoices and unusually large first orders as reasons for delays. A modest first order with complete, accurate details is the smoothest path.
Step 2: Add your Coinepay card as a payment method
- In Hetzner Accounts, open the top-right profile menu, where payment methods and contact information are managed.
- Add a credit card and enter the card number, expiry date and CVV from your Coinepay app.
- Enter the billing address that matches your Coinepay card profile.
- Complete any 3-D Secure (3DS) authentication prompt. Coinepay confirmations appear in the app, so keep it open while you save the card.
Accepted methods are credit card, SEPA direct debit for EUR accounts, manual bank or wire transfer, and manual PayPal through Hetzner Accounts. Hetzner says available methods vary by country and account, and that it does not accept Apple Pay or other card-linked alternatives, cryptocurrency, partial payments or payment plans.
Step 3: Order your product
To order a cloud server, open a project in Hetzner Console, go to Servers → Add server, choose the type, location and options, then select CREATE & BUY NOW. Dedicated servers are ordered separately and managed in Robot; web hosting is managed in konsoleH.
Server tiers differ by location. In Germany and Finland you will see families such as CX23/33/43/53, CAX11/21/31/41, CPX22/32/42/52/62 and CCX13/23/33/43/53/63; the US offers CPX11–51 and CCX tiers, and Singapore offers CPX12–62 and CCX tiers. Dedicated families include AX, EX, SX, DX and GEX, some with -LTD limited-availability variants. Cloud locations documented include Falkenstein and Nuremberg (Germany), Helsinki (Finland), Ashburn (Virginia), Hillsboro (Oregon) and Singapore.
At the time of writing (October 2026), in Germany/Finland the CX23 is listed at €5.49 or $6.49 per month and the CAX11 at €5.99 or $6.99 per month; the US CPX11 is €17.49 or $20.49 per month and the Singapore CPX12 is €15.49 or $17.99 per month. A dedicated AX42-1 is listed at €97.30 or $117.10 per month plus a €49 or $59 setup fee. These are account-currency prices that exclude VAT and IPv4 (cloud lists a Primary IPv4 at an additional €0.50/month, excluding VAT), and they change — Hetzner adjusted listed prices on 15 June 2026. Always confirm the current figure on Hetzner's own pricing page before you buy.
Step 4: How billing works
Billing normally starts when access is provided and is invoiced after use; hourly usage is rounded up to whole hours and capped at the monthly price. Invoices are due immediately and should be paid within ten days. Credit-card and SEPA payments are processed automatically, while bank transfer and PayPal require you to act. Your invoices and transactions live in the Invoices tab, and a failed invoice can be retried via Invoices → Overview → Pay now. Since July 2026, Hetzner's invoice emails come from [email protected] (sender name “Noreply Billing – Hetzner Online GmbH”).
Troubleshooting: card declined or won't save
Users have reported card-entry errors such as “authentication via 3D-Secure failed” and “The changes you made failed to save.” These reports don't prove a single cause, so work through the common ones:
Insufficient balance
Automatic charges fail if the card can't cover the invoice plus VAT and IPv4. Top up your Coinepay card and check the amount in the Coinepay app, then retry the invoice through Invoices → Overview → Pay now.
Billing address mismatch
If the address on your Hetzner account doesn't match your Coinepay card profile, the charge can be refused. Open your Coinepay app, confirm the card's registered address, and update Hetzner's contact and billing details in the profile menu to match exactly.
3-D Secure authentication
A “3D-Secure failed” message usually means the verification step didn't complete. Have the Coinepay app open and notifications enabled, approve the prompt promptly, and try again. If approvals aren't arriving, contact Coinepay support to check your card's 3DS status.
Network or method restrictions
Hetzner charges Visa, Mastercard and American Express automatically but excludes UnionPay from automatic charging, and available methods vary by country and account. If your Coinepay card won't save, confirm with Coinepay support that it is on an accepted network, and consider the other methods Hetzner shows in your account.
Retry limits and account reviews
Failed automatic charges trigger an email; you can retry up to five times, switch to another method shown in your account, or ask Hetzner billing support to charge the card manually. Substantially overdue invoices may become bank-transfer-only. Separately, registration delays or order rejections can stem from incomplete details, outstanding invoices or an unusually large first order — these are account checks, not card declines, and are fixed by correcting your details or contacting Hetzner.
Cancelling to stop charges
Products continue until you actively cancel them — powering off a server does not necessarily stop charges. Delete a cloud server in Hetzner Console by opening its project and selecting Server → [server] → Delete; cloud billing is hourly through deletion with a final retrospective invoice. Cancel dedicated servers in Robot → Server → Cancellation, and manage web-hosting cancellations in konsoleH. Some products have longer notice periods — certain domains need 30 days to month-end and are billed for a full year, and software licences are billed for full calendar months. Hetzner's terms also describe a 14-day right to cancel a newly concluded contract, with any refund normally to the original payment method less a proportionate charge if service has begun.

FAQ
Which card networks does Hetzner accept?
Hetzner lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express and UnionPay for card payments, with UnionPay excluded from automatic charging. Available methods also vary by country and account. If you're unsure your Coinepay card qualifies, contact Coinepay support to confirm before you order.
Why did my card fail with a 3D-Secure error on Hetzner?
A "authentication via 3D-Secure failed" message usually means the verification step didn't complete. Keep the Coinepay app open with notifications on, approve the prompt promptly, and retry via Invoices > Overview > Pay now. If approvals aren't arriving, ask Coinepay support to check your card's 3DS status.
Can I pay Hetzner invoices automatically with a virtual card?
Yes. Credit-card and SEPA payments are processed automatically after each invoice is issued, so keep enough balance on your Coinepay card for the plan price plus VAT and any IPv4 charge. Bank transfer and PayPal, by contrast, require you to pay manually.
What happens if a Hetzner charge is declined?
Hetzner emails you about failed automatic charges. You can retry payment up to five times, switch to another method shown in your account, or ask Hetzner billing support to charge the card manually. Substantially overdue invoices may become bank-transfer-only.
How do I stop Hetzner charges on my card?
Actively cancel the product. Delete a cloud server in Hetzner Console via Server > [server] > Delete, cancel dedicated servers in Robot > Server > Cancellation, and manage web-hosting cancellations in konsoleH. Powering off a resource alone does not necessarily stop its charges.
