Microsoft Advertising is paid through an advertising account, not a fixed-price subscription checkout. You choose a billing arrangement, add an eligible payment method, and set a campaign budget. This guide explains how to enter a Coinepay virtual card, what to check before running ads, and how to investigate a declined payment.

What you need before you start

  • A Microsoft account and accurate business details. Microsoft Advertising uses these to create your advertiser account. Use your real identity, business address, and billing information; your account country affects the payment options you can use.
  • A Coinepay account ready for card use. Register and complete identity verification before using Coinepay card services. You can manage your account through its 24/7 self-service dashboard or mobile app.
  • Your virtual card details. Coinepay issues a card number, expiry date, and CVV instantly. Have them ready when you reach Microsoft Advertising’s payment form.
  • A campaign budget and sufficient available funds. Check the amount available for the card and allow for the payment Microsoft may attempt under your selected billing arrangement.

You can register with Coinepay or use the iOS app or Android app. Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions. Service availability varies by jurisdiction.

Choose the right Microsoft Advertising billing arrangement

Microsoft Advertising’s self-service billing choices are Prepay and Postpay threshold. Qualifying businesses may instead be eligible for Monthly invoice, a credit-line arrangement with additional requirements. These are payment settings, not subscription plans with different feature prices. Advertising costs depend on your campaigns, bids, and competition; a billing threshold is not a subscription price or a minimum campaign budget.

Billing settingHow payment worksWhat to check for card use
PrepayAdd funds before ads run.Check which card categories Microsoft accepts for your account country and currency before attempting to add funds.
Postpay thresholdMicrosoft charges the primary payment method when your account reaches its threshold or its monthly billing date, whichever comes first.Keep an eligible primary method on file and enough funds available when a charge is due.
Monthly invoiceEligible businesses receive an invoicing arrangement, subject to a credit check and other requirements. This is not the standard card-checkout path; review Microsoft’s eligibility requirements if your business needs invoicing.

Microsoft’s accepted methods vary with your business address, account currency, and payment setting. Its guidance lists credit and debit cards for applicable accounts, but lists prepaid credit cards for Prepay. Cards that require a PIN at payment are not accepted. Do not assume that a virtual card is eligible for every setting. Check Microsoft Advertising’s country-and-currency payment-method selector and contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the relevant requirements before you buy.

How to add a Coinepay virtual card

  1. Prepare your Coinepay account. Complete registration and identity verification, then open the dashboard or app to retrieve your virtual card number, expiry date, and CVV. Check your available funds before proceeding.
  2. Create or sign in to Microsoft Advertising. Visit Microsoft Advertising’s official site and sign up with a Microsoft account. Enter your real business and contact details. Complete any advertiser identity verification Microsoft requests.
  3. Set up billing. Choose an available payment setting for your account. Review the account country and currency carefully: they affect which payment methods Microsoft offers. If you choose Postpay threshold, you will need a primary payment method. If you choose Prepay, add funds before your ads can run.
  4. Add the card. In your advertising account, open Billing → Payment methods and select the option to add a payment method. Enter the Coinepay card details and your genuine billing details. Follow any verification or authentication prompt shown during the process.
  5. Complete the applicable payment action. For Prepay, use the funding action Microsoft presents and review the amount before confirming. For Postpay threshold, confirm the card is set as the primary method so Microsoft can attempt charges under that setting. This is not a one-time checkout for a fixed-price plan.
  6. Create or import a campaign. Set its budget and review its targeting and ads before launch. A campaign budget controls planned advertising spend; it does not replace the billing arrangements on your account.

If you operate several ad accounts, Coinepay lets businesses issue a dedicated virtual card for each ad account and set a custom spending limit per card. Keep those limits aligned with your intended campaign spend and potential billing charges.

Where to check charges and change your card

Use Billing → Payment methods in Microsoft Advertising to add or replace a card. For a postpay account, Billing → Billing settings is where you can inspect the billing threshold or set a per-charge limit. Billing → Billing summary shows balances and available payment actions. If you cannot find an option, check the help available inside your Microsoft Advertising account; controls can depend on the account’s billing setting.

Keep your card information current. Microsoft notes that a cancelled or replaced card, or a changed expiry date, can make a saved payment method invalid. Its documented message “Your payment method is invalid because there have been no transactions within the past 18 months” calls for updating the payment method in your advertising account.

Troubleshoot a declined card or failed payment

A rejection on Microsoft’s payment form does not, by itself, identify the cause. Work through these checks rather than repeatedly entering different details:

  • Insufficient funds or a failed authorization hold: Check available funds and any card spending limit in Coinepay. Microsoft says insufficient funds or credit and failed authorization holds can interrupt postpay billing. Compare what is available with the payment or verification attempt before trying again.
  • Incorrect card or billing details: Re-enter the number, expiry, and CVV carefully. Make sure the billing name and address are your real details and are consistent with the information required for your payment method. A mismatch or an old saved expiry can prevent payment.
  • Authentication, including 3-D Secure: If Microsoft or your card’s authentication process requests an additional approval, complete the prompt rather than closing it. If no prompt appears or authentication fails, check your Coinepay app and ask support to investigate the attempt.
  • Merchant region or card-category checks: Microsoft’s options depend on account country, currency, and billing setting. Its rules limit Brazilian advertisers to BRL accounts and Brazil-billed BRL cards. Indian advertisers are limited to INR accounts and India-billed INR cards, and debit cards are not accepted there. Do not change your address or region to bypass a restriction. Check Microsoft’s requirements and contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets them.
  • An invalid saved method: If the card was replaced, expired, or has the documented 18-month inactivity error, update it under Billing → Payment methods.

Record the exact error text, the time of the attempt, and the billing setting before contacting Microsoft Advertising about its payment decision or Coinepay support about the card attempt. Do not share your CVV in a support message.

Pause spending or close the advertising account

To stop campaigns, go to Campaigns → select campaigns → Edit → Pause. Billing data can still arrive after campaigns are paused or deleted, so review Billing → Billing summary for pending charges. If you want to close the account, Microsoft Advertising support advises pausing campaigns and paying pending charges before using Tools → All accounts → Accounts summary → Management → Deactivate → Proceed in its web app.

Deactivation does not mean every advertising charge is refundable. Microsoft assesses whether any remaining funds are eligible for a refund after outstanding charges are settled and ordinarily attempts an eligible refund through the original payment method. Raise a question about a posted charge promptly: Microsoft’s Advertising Agreement requires charge disputes within 60 days.

FAQ

Is Microsoft Advertising a monthly subscription?

No. Self-service accounts use Prepay or Postpay threshold billing rather than a fixed-price subscription; qualifying businesses may be eligible for Monthly invoice.

Where do I add or replace my card?

In Microsoft Advertising, go to Billing → Payment methods. Check Billing → Billing summary for balances and payment actions.

Can I use a Coinepay virtual card with any Microsoft Advertising billing setting?

Do not assume so. Microsoft’s card rules vary by country, currency, and billing setting. Check its payment-method requirements and contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets them.

Why was my Microsoft Advertising payment declined?

Possible causes include insufficient funds, incorrect card or billing details, a failed authorization hold, incomplete authentication, or a regional payment restriction. Use the exact error message to guide your checks.
