Campaign Monitor is an email marketing platform billed on monthly or annual plans, with a separate pay-per-campaign option that uses email credits. If you want to keep your marketing spend organised, a Coinepay virtual card gives you an instant card number, expiry date and CVV you can use at Campaign Monitor's checkout. This guide walks through what you need, how to sign up and pay, and what to do if your card is declined.

What you need before you start

Campaign Monitor's current Chargebee billing guide states that monthly and annual subscriptions require a credit card, and its payment help documents that it accepts both credit and debit cards, with any debit transaction still subject to issuer approval. Specific card networks are not confirmed on the company's public pages, so before you buy, open the Coinepay app and confirm your card is active and funded. If you are unsure whether your card meets a particular requirement, contact Coinepay support to check before you subscribe.

To get a card ready:

  • Register and complete KYC. You must create a Coinepay account and finish identity verification before card services are available.
  • Create a virtual card in the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app (iOS or Google Play). You will see the card number, expiry and CVV instantly.
  • Load enough balance to cover the first charge, which Campaign Monitor takes immediately, plus the recurring amount.
  • Note your real billing details — the name, address and country tied to how you registered. Use your genuine identity; do not enter invented details.

Card issuance and fund services are provided by Coinepay's licensed partner financial institutions. Some services are not available in every jurisdiction, and virtual-asset-related services are not available to residents of mainland China.

Understand Campaign Monitor's plans and pricing

At the time of writing (October 2026), Campaign Monitor's paid plans are named Lite, Essentials and Premier, and the Free option is presented as a 30-day trial rather than a confirmed permanent free plan. There is also a pay-per-campaign route that uses a card or prepaid email credits, which is separate from the three monthly plans.

Your price depends on a subscriber tier. Published tiers run 0–500, 501–2,500, 2,501–5,000, 5,001–10,000, 10,001–15,000, 15,001–25,000 and 25,001–50,000 subscribers, and an active address that appears on two lists counts twice. Company comparison pages listed US starting figures of Lite $12/month, Essentials $29/month and Premier $159/month, but these are starting figures, not a verified checkout quote for every tier. Campaign Monitor also names GBP, EUR, AUD, CAD and NZD as billing currencies without publishing confirmed amounts here. Because the live checkout figures could not be verified and vary by region, always confirm the exact amount on Campaign Monitor's official pricing page before you pay. The pricing page also advertises a 10% discount for buying any paid plan annually, though agency and multi-team plans are excluded from that advertised discount.

Note that new single-team direct purchasers from the start of August 2026 are billed through Chargebee, while some older accounts stay on the previous system for now. Legacy names also linger: Basic became Lite and Unlimited became Essentials for new accounts in July 2023.

Step-by-step: sign up and subscribe

  1. Choose a plan. On Campaign Monitor's pricing page, select Lite, Essentials or Premier and your subscriber tier. The chosen tier determines the purchase price.
  2. Create your account. The paid-plan sign-up form asks for your full name, company name, email, password, country and time zone, followed by Create my account. The checkout screens that follow are not shown on the public form, so the exact sequence may vary.
  3. Enter your Coinepay card. At the payment step, type the card number, expiry date and CVV from your Coinepay virtual card. Enter the billing name, address and country that match your Coinepay registration.
  4. Complete any verification. If a 3-D Secure or one-time passcode check appears, approve it through the Coinepay app or your registered contact method.
  5. Confirm the purchase. The first plan charge is taken immediately and then recurs monthly or annually. Keep the confirmation for your records.

Buying email credits instead

If you prefer pay per campaign, the documented route is Billing → Buy credits and save → enter quantity → Calculate cost → enter card → Purchase. Before a pay-per-campaign send, users who already hold enough credits can choose credits or card on the payment screen. International wire transfer is only arranged through support for very large purchases of at least 500,000 credits, and the pricing FAQ notes invoicing may be supported for high-volume senders and larger organisations.

Where to manage billing and your card

In a Chargebee account, billing lives under profile image → Billing → Plan and billing → Manage plan. To change the card on file, go to Billing → Payment method and enter a new Coinepay card number, expiry and CVV. If you create a fresh virtual card in Coinepay, update it here so renewals do not fail.

A downgrade takes effect at the next billing cycle. To close an account entirely, the guide gives profile image → Account Settings → Close account → select reason → Permanently close my account. Before relying on closure to stop charges, check your order terms: paid fees are generally non-refundable, including partial or unused service, except where the agreement or law says otherwise, and ordering documents generally auto-renew unless you give notice of non-renewal at least 30 days before the term ends.

Troubleshooting a declined card

Campaign Monitor's documented failure message is simply "card declined." Its help pages attribute declines to an incorrect card number or expiry, expired cards, insufficient funds, issuer-blocked debit transactions (it specifically mentions UK banks) and customer-reported fraud blocks or objections to its Australian bank. Work through these in order:

  • Insufficient balance. Confirm your Coinepay card holds enough for the first charge plus recurring renewals. Top up in the app and retry.
  • Wrong number or expiry. Re-enter the card number, expiry and CVV carefully, copying them from the Coinepay app rather than from memory.
  • Billing address mismatch. Make sure the billing name, address and country at checkout match your Coinepay registration details exactly.
  • 3-D Secure not completed. If an extra authentication step appears, approve it promptly; an unanswered prompt reads as a decline.
  • Issuer or fraud block. Because Campaign Monitor notes that some banks block the transaction or flag it as fraud, check your Coinepay notifications. If the payment was stopped on the card side, reach out to Coinepay support.
  • Merchant region checks. Campaign Monitor names USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD and NZD as billing currencies but does not publish a country-by-country list of where payment is permitted, and whether a specific card is accepted is not confirmed. If the charge keeps failing, ask Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirement before trying again.

On Chargebee, failed payments are retried and sending can continue during retries, but an unresolved account can be put on hold and later deactivated; an FAQ on the same page also says emails cannot be sent while payment details are pending. Fix the card promptly to avoid any interruption.

Tips for organising your marketing spend

If you run several tools or ad accounts, Coinepay lets you issue a dedicated virtual card per service and set custom spending limits, which makes it easy to separate your Campaign Monitor subscription from other costs and spot an unexpected renewal. Manage everything from the 24/7 self-service dashboard or the mobile app, and keep the card topped up ahead of each renewal date so your email campaigns keep sending. Questions about your card can go to Coinepay support any time.

FAQ

Which Campaign Monitor plan should I pick?

The paid plans are Lite, Essentials and Premier, each priced by subscriber tier, with a separate pay-per-campaign credits option. Compare them and confirm the exact amount on Campaign Monitor's official pricing page, since checkout figures vary by region and tier.

Does Campaign Monitor accept a Coinepay virtual card?

Campaign Monitor says it accepts credit and debit cards, with debit transactions still subject to issuer approval, but it does not publish every accepted network or country. Confirm your card is active and funded in the Coinepay app, and contact Coinepay support if you want to check it meets the requirement before you buy.

Why was my card declined at checkout?

Campaign Monitor shows a "card declined" message for causes such as an incorrect number or expiry, expired cards, insufficient funds, issuer-blocked debit transactions or a fraud block. Check your balance, re-enter the details, match your billing address, complete any 3-D Secure step, then contact Coinepay support if it persists.

Where do I update the card on my Campaign Monitor account?

In a Chargebee account, go to profile image → Billing → Payment method to change the card, and profile image → Billing → Plan and billing → Manage plan to adjust your plan. Update the card whenever you create a new Coinepay virtual card so renewals don't fail.

Can I get a refund if I cancel?

Campaign Monitor's terms say paid fees are generally non-refundable, including partial or unused service, except where the agreement or law provides otherwise. Orders also tend to auto-renew unless you give non-renewal notice at least 30 days before the term ends, so review your order terms before cancelling.
