Looking to pay for Hotjar with a virtual card? Hotjar’s current plans and checkout are presented through Contentsquare. This guide explains which plan to choose, how to enter a Coinepay virtual card, and what to check if payment does not go through.

Understand the current Hotjar plans

Hotjar joined Contentsquare in July 2025. The current product choices are Experience Analytics, Voice of Customer, and Product Analytics, rather than the older Hotjar Observe, Ask, and Engage plans. Select the product that contains the capabilities you need before choosing a tier; buying one product does not mean you have selected all three.

Contentsquare lists Free, Growth, Pro, and Enterprise tiers by product, although the tiers available for purchase differ. Voice of Customer lists Free, Growth, and Pro. At the time of writing (October 2026), the public US-dollar pricing page showed Experience Analytics Growth from $39/month and Voice of Customer Growth from $79/month. Experience Analytics Pro and Enterprise, Voice of Customer Pro, and all listed Product Analytics tiers required a custom quote. Prices and checkout totals can vary, so check Contentsquare’s official pricing page and your order review rather than relying on an older Hotjar price.

Contentsquare says Growth customers in Europe, including the UK, are billed in EUR, while customers outside Europe are billed in USD. Your actual checkout amount may also reflect billing frequency and applicable tax. If you are comparing monthly and annual billing, the official pricing page describes a 20% discount on eligible annual Growth payments made in-app by card or PayPal, before VAT. Review the amount shown for your account before confirming.

What you need before checkout

  • A Coinepay account with identity verification completed. You must register and complete KYC before using Coinepay card services. You can register for Coinepay and manage your card in the self-service dashboard or mobile app.
  • Your virtual card details. Coinepay provides a card number, expiry date, and CVV when a virtual card is issued. Check the Coinepay app for the card’s current details and any applicable spending settings.
  • Enough available funds. Compare the available amount with the complete order total, including any tax displayed at checkout. Check the app if you need information about funding or limits; do not assume the advertised starting price is your final charge.
  • Accurate account and billing information. Use your real identity and your actual billing details. Have the invoice name, address, and any tax information requested for your account ready.
  • The right account permissions. An account admin can change plans in app.contentsquare.com. For an existing account on insights.hotjar.com, the Account Owner must change the plan.

Contentsquare lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Discover, and PayPal for monthly and annual self-service payments. That list does not establish that a particular Coinepay card will be accepted. Contact Coinepay support to confirm card compatibility before buying if you are unsure, and check any requirements shown at checkout.

How to sign up and pay for a plan

  1. Create or access your account. Start from Hotjar’s official site or Contentsquare’s official site and follow its current sign-up path. A new account starts with a 15-day Growth trial that does not require payment details and does not charge automatically. You can evaluate the product before choosing a paid plan or continuing on Free.
  2. Choose the product and tier. Compare Experience Analytics, Voice of Customer, and Product Analytics against your needs. If the plan calls for a custom quote, follow the sales process presented by Contentsquare rather than expecting the same self-service card checkout used for an available Growth plan.
  3. Open the plan-change screen. In app.contentsquare.com, an account admin can select the profile image, then Subscription → Change plans. Choose the product, paid tier, and billing option offered to your account.
  4. Enter invoice details. Complete the invoice-information step with your real billing details. Check spelling and address fields carefully before proceeding to payment.
  5. Enter the Coinepay card details. Use the number, expiry date, and CVV shown for your virtual card in Coinepay. If checkout asks for a cardholder name or billing address, enter the truthful details associated with your account and payment setup. Follow any verification prompt presented during payment.
  6. Review before paying. At Review order, check the selected product, billing period, currency, tax, and total. Select Confirm and pay only when those details are correct. Then check your subscription status and invoice information in your Contentsquare account.

If you use an existing account at insights.hotjar.com, its documented route is different: the Account Owner goes to profile image → Billing → Subscriptions → Manage subscriptions. Use the controls shown in that account for the plan change rather than looking for the app.contentsquare.com menu.

What to do if your card is declined

A failed payment does not, by itself, identify the cause. Contentsquare’s billing guidance does not provide a definitive list of card-decline messages. Avoid repeatedly submitting the same details without checking the order and payment information first.

Check the available balance and order total

Look at the final amount on Contentsquare’s review screen, not just a monthly starting price. Annual billing, tax, and your billing currency can affect the amount payable. Check the available funds and applicable card settings in Coinepay. If they do not cover the amount shown, address that before trying again.

Correct billing or invoice details

Recheck the card number, expiry date, CVV, name, and billing address for typing errors. Use real details; do not substitute an address from another country to try to pass checkout. If you already have a subscription in app.contentsquare.com, payment information can be edited under profile image → Subscription → Payment details → Edit → Set Payment Details. Invoice information has a separate location: Subscription → Invoices → Edit. Keep both accurate.

Complete any payment verification

A payment provider may ask you to verify a card when payment details change. If a 3-D Secure or other authentication prompt appears, complete it using the instructions actually provided. If a prompt expires, fails to load, or cannot be completed, check the Coinepay app for relevant notices and ask Coinepay support for help. Contentsquare notes that a verification amount associated with a payment-detail change is not charged immediately; review the on-screen explanation if you see one.

Check merchant eligibility and regional rules

Contentsquare’s terms restrict access from US-embargoed countries or territories, and some sites or features may not be available in every country. A payment can also be subject to merchant or payment-provider checks. Confirm that your real account location and billing details are eligible under the merchant’s current terms. Do not use a VPN, invented identity, or borrowed address to bypass a restriction. If the merchant identifies a card-type or issuing-country requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets it before retrying; do not assume compatibility.

Contentsquare permits one payment method on an account at a time. If the checkout remains unsuccessful after you have checked the details, contact Contentsquare through its official support channel for the merchant-side reason and Coinepay support for card-side help. Share the relevant error text and time of the attempt, but never send your full card number or CVV in a support message.

Manage or cancel your subscription

To replace payment details later, use profile image → Subscription → Payment details → Edit → Set Payment Details in app.contentsquare.com. For invoice corrections, use Subscription → Invoices → Edit. Review the updated information before your next payment is due.

To stop a paid product, go to Subscription → Cancel subscription in app.contentsquare.com. Cancellation downgrades that product to Free at the end of its paid billing cycle; it does not immediately delete the account. Contentsquare states that a new Growth-plan account has a 30-day money-back guarantee if it is canceled within that period. After 30 days, payment covers the current monthly or annual cycle. Check the applicable terms in your account when making a cancellation decision.

FAQ

Do I need to pay to start a Hotjar account?

No. A new account starts with a 15-day Growth trial without payment details or automatic charges. Afterward, you can choose a paid plan or continue on Free.

Where do I add or change my card?

In app.contentsquare.com, go to profile image → Subscription → Payment details → Edit → Set Payment Details. Invoice details are edited separately under Subscription → Invoices → Edit.

Why was my Coinepay card declined?

Check the final order total against available funds, recheck your real billing details, and complete any payment verification prompt. If it still fails, ask Contentsquare about the merchant-side reason and Coinepay support about card-side issues.

Can I cancel without losing my account immediately?

Yes. In app.contentsquare.com, Subscription → Cancel subscription downgrades the paid product to Free at the end of the paid billing cycle rather than immediately deleting the account.
