If you mean Rakuten Kobo Plus, you can choose an eBook or audiobook subscription on Kobo.com and enter a virtual card at checkout. This guide covers Kobo Plus, not Rakuten Rewards, Rakuten TV or Rakuten Mobile. Before subscribing, check one important restriction: Kobo says prepaid Visa and Mastercard cards are not accepted for Kobo Plus activation. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Kobo’s requirements before you buy; do not assume that a virtual card will be accepted.

Choose a Kobo Plus plan in your country

Kobo Plus offers access to eligible titles rather than every book in the Kobo Store. Its plan names are Kobo Plus Read for eligible eBooks, Kobo Plus Listen for eligible audiobooks, and Kobo Plus Read & Listen for both. Plans, introductory trials and availability differ by country. Check the offer shown for your actual location on Kobo’s official pricing page before selecting a plan.

CountryMonthly prices at the time of writing (October 2026)Introductory trial
United StatesRead: US$7.99; Listen: US$7.99; Read & Listen: US$9.9914 days for eligible new subscribers
CanadaRead: CA$9.99; Listen: CA$9.99; Read & Listen: CA$12.9914 days for eligible new subscribers, except Quebec residents
United KingdomRead: £8.99; Listen: £8.99; Read & Listen: £11.9930 days for eligible new subscribers
AustraliaRead: A$13.99; Listen: A$13.99; Read & Listen: A$16.9930 days for eligible new subscribers
FranceRead: €9.99; Read & Listen: €14.9914 days for eligible new subscribers

These are dated examples, not a promise of the price or trial you will receive. Taxes may be additional. In France, Read & Listen includes 30 audiobook-listening hours per monthly billing period; it does not provide unlimited audiobook listening. Check Kobo’s official offer and checkout for current terms. Quebec’s exception affects the introductory trial, not availability of a paid plan.

What you need before checkout

  • A Kobo account: You can create one or sign in on Kobo.com. Use your real name and accurate billing information.
  • An available plan: Kobo Plus is not offered worldwide. Check Kobo’s supported-country information and the plans displayed for your actual country; a payment card cannot override a regional restriction.
  • A Coinepay card: Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Coinepay provides a virtual card number, expiry date and CVV. Check the app or self-service dashboard for your card details and available funds.
  • Confirmation of card eligibility: Kobo lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express, iDeal|Wero, PayPal except in Brazil, and Bancontact in Belgium among its subscription payment methods, depending on location. Kobo specifically excludes prepaid Visa and Mastercard cards from Kobo Plus activation. Ask Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before attempting to subscribe. Payment methods offered for individual Kobo Store purchases should not be assumed to work for Plus.

If you already have a Coinepay card, review its details in the iOS app, Android app or dashboard. For questions about card availability or funding in your jurisdiction, check the app or contact support rather than relying on a checkout attempt.

How to sign up and pay for Kobo Plus

  1. Open Kobo.com and sign in. Create a Kobo account if you do not have one. Make sure the account and billing details reflect your real circumstances.
  2. Choose your subscription. Review the Kobo Plus plans offered in your country. Select Read, Listen or Read & Listen where available, and check which titles and trial terms apply. For an eligible introductory offer, choose Start free trial.
  3. Enter a payment method. If support has confirmed that your Coinepay card meets Kobo’s card requirements, enter its number, expiry date and CVV in Kobo’s payment fields. Supply your actual cardholder and billing details, including the correct postal code. Do not change your address merely to access another country’s offer.
  4. Review the subscription. Check the plan, price, trial eligibility, any taxes and the date billing is due to begin. An eligible trial converts to a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel before it ends.
  5. Finish checkout. Select Save and Continue, then Complete Purchase. If Kobo opens a purchase-authentication window, complete the requested verification rather than closing it. Keep the confirmation and review your subscription under My Account → My Subscriptions.

A trial can still require a valid payment method. Entering card details or seeing an introductory offer does not, by itself, mean Kobo has accepted the card or activated the subscription. Verify the final status in your Kobo account.

If Kobo declines the card or checkout does not finish

Kobo’s help materials do not establish one exact decline message for every failure. Use the stage at which checkout stopped to narrow down the cause:

  • Insufficient available funds or a spending restriction: Check the amount Kobo is attempting to charge, including possible taxes, against the funds and any applicable spending controls shown in Coinepay. If the charge is higher than expected or a card setting is unclear, ask Coinepay support before retrying. Kobo also identifies card spending limits or credit issues as possible reasons for a decline.
  • Billing details do not match: Recheck the cardholder name, billing address and postal code for typing errors. To correct stored details on Kobo.com, go to My Account → Payment Information. Kobo also provides My Account → Account Settings → Payment Information → Add a Payment Method. Use your real billing address, not one chosen to match a different store region.
  • Authentication was cancelled or missed: In Europe, an interrupted purchase-authentication step or an incorrect or missing 3-D Secure code can stop checkout. Follow the verification prompt presented during the purchase. If no prompt appears, or it repeatedly fails, contact Coinepay support with the time and amount of the attempt; do not send your CVV or a full card number in a support message.
  • Merchant payment-method or region check: Kobo’s prepaid-card restriction and location-dependent payment options apply even if a card has funds. Confirm card eligibility with Coinepay support and check that Kobo Plus is offered in your actual country. If your country or payment method is not supported, use an eligible option offered by Kobo rather than altering your identity or location.
  • Other checkout interruptions: Check that all fields are complete and that you have not missed Kobo’s “I’m not a robot” verification. If you are unsure whether an attempt succeeded, check My Account → My Subscriptions before submitting it again.

If the problem persists, record the plan, approximate attempt time and the wording Kobo displays. Kobo support can help with its checkout or account rules; Coinepay support can help investigate a card-side issue. Share only the card details each support channel safely requires.

Manage or cancel the subscription

For a subscription purchased through Kobo, sign in on Kobo.com and open My Account → My Subscriptions to view subscription and plan controls. To stop renewal, choose Cancel this subscription and confirm. Cancel before the trial ends if you do not want the first subscription charge. Kobo says cancellation takes effect on the first day of the next monthly billing period.

Paid Kobo Plus fees are generally non-refundable. Kobo states a 14-day cooling-off refund exception for EU residents after registration only if they have not accessed the service during that period; applicable non-waivable consumer rights may also apply. If an active subscriber changes their billing address to a country where Kobo Plus is unsupported, Kobo says they cannot add new Plus titles and the subscription ends after the current billing period. Review Kobo’s current terms for your location before making changes.

Will Kobo charge me after the free trial?

An eligible trial becomes a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel before it ends. Check the trial and billing dates shown at Kobo checkout.

Where can I change my Kobo Plus payment details?

Sign in on Kobo.com and go to My Account → Payment Information to edit card and billing-address details.

How do I cancel Kobo Plus?
