Nequi is a mobile wallet used in Colombia. A recipient can receive an international remittance into an eligible Nequi account and see the credited money in Colombian pesos (COP). Before sending with Coinepay Global Remittance, check whether Nequi is offered as a payout method for your sending location and recipient. Do not treat a general mobile-wallet, bank-deposit or domestic-transfer option as a Nequi remittance route.
Check that the recipient can receive a remittance
Nequi calls incoming international transfers remesas. Its remittance instructions say the recipient must have a Nequi account, be over 18 and hold a Colombian cédula de ciudadanía (CC), cédula de extranjería (CE) or Permiso por Protección Temporal (PPT). Ask the recipient to check their account status and whether they have completed any additional registration Nequi requests for receiving money from abroad.
Nequi says a recipient can receive up to three remittances before completing additional registration. To continue receiving them, the recipient can open the Nequi app and go to Servicios → Finanzas → Traer plata del exterior. Nequi may request an identity-document scan, residence and occupation details, information about the money’s origin and use, acceptance of its terms, and confirmation with the app PIN. The recipient should provide accurate information directly in Nequi.
Wallet capacity also matters. Nequi distinguishes between a depósito de bajo monto (low-value deposit) and a cuenta de ahorros (savings account), with different remittance and account limits. An individual’s assigned allowance may differ. Rather than assuming the wallet has room for another payment, ask the recipient to check their current limits and usage in Tu plata → Tus topes and consult Nequi if their account needs an eligibility or verification update.
Get the recipient’s Nequi details
Ask the recipient for their full name exactly as registered with Nequi and their Nequi-registered mobile number. Nequi says this mobile number is also the account number. If the Coinepay payout form asks for an account ID, confirm with the recipient which Nequi identifier the form requires; do not substitute an unrelated bank account, a Bre-B key or a guessed number.
Have the recipient check the spelling and number before you enter them, especially if they recently changed their mobile number or registered with multiple surnames. Use your own real identity and payment information, and enter the recipient’s genuine details. A mismatch can prevent Nequi from accepting an incoming remittance.
A Nequi mobile number is not a SWIFT address. Nequi says its wallet cannot receive a direct international bank transfer through SWIFT. The relevant option is a supported remittance payout to Nequi, not a conventional international wire addressed to the phone number.
Send to Nequi with Coinepay Global Remittance
Coinepay Global Remittance supports cross-border transfers and local payout methods, including mobile wallets. However, availability of a specific wallet route must be checked in the Coinepay app or dashboard for the transfer you are making. Nequi publishes its own list of remittance providers; do not assume Coinepay is on that list or that a Nequi payout is available from every origin.
- Open Coinepay. Sign in through the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard and begin a global remittance. Complete any identity verification requested for the service.
- Choose the destination. Select Colombia as the recipient’s country. Review the payout methods actually shown for your sending location and transfer.
- Select Nequi if offered. Choose the Nequi mobile-wallet payout option only if it is explicitly available. If you cannot find it, stop before entering payment details and ask Coinepay support whether this route is available. A different wallet or bank-deposit option is not an interchangeable substitute.
- Enter the recipient information. Supply the full registered name and the requested Nequi mobile number or account identifier. Check each digit with the recipient rather than relying on an old contact entry.
- Review before confirming. Check the recipient, destination, payout method and amount. Coinepay shows the applicable exchange rate and fees before you confirm. Read the displayed payout details carefully, including the amount the recipient is expected to receive.
- Confirm and track. Confirm only when the details are correct. Save the transfer reference and follow its status in Coinepay. If Coinepay asks for documents about the purpose or source of funds, provide accurate information through its requested process.
Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions. If the intended recipient or route cannot be served, do not try another person’s wallet or another route to bypass a check.
How the recipient sees the money arrive
When an eligible remittance is accepted and credited, the recipient can open Nequi to check their available balance and incoming activity. The wallet credit is in Colombian pesos (COP), even if the sender starts with another currency. Nequi says the conversion may use a rate set by Nequi or by the remittance provider for the transaction; use the figures shown in Coinepay before confirmation for your transfer, and compare the final record if you have a question.
The recipient may need to complete Nequi’s Traer plata del exterior registration or supply information Nequi requests before further remittances can be received. Nequi also asks recipients to classify the purpose of a remittance for Colombia’s foreign-exchange declaration; its app includes remesas de trabajadores and remesas de trabajadores para adquisición de vivienda as receipt reasons. The recipient should choose the truthful reason that applies and follow the app’s instructions.
Keep the Coinepay transfer reference until the recipient confirms the credit. A sender-side status update and a visible Nequi balance are different checks: if the transfer appears complete but the recipient cannot find it, compare the recipient details and contact support with the reference.
Troubleshoot a missing or rejected Nequi payout
Wrong mobile number or account identifier
Recheck the number against the recipient’s current Nequi account. Do not submit another transfer simply to test a corrected number. If you have already confirmed the transfer, use its status and reference to contact Coinepay support promptly about available next steps. A correction or return depends on the transfer’s status and applicable checks.
Name mismatch
Ask the recipient to compare the name you entered with the name registered in Nequi, including both surnames where applicable. Nequi warns that inconsistent recipient information can prevent receipt. Give support the transfer reference and the correct details; do not alter someone’s identity information to make a payment appear eligible.
Wallet limit reached or additional registration needed
Ask the recipient to review Tu plata → Tus topes and their eligibility to receive remittances. A low-value deposit and a savings account have different capacities, and Nequi may assign an individual allowance. If the recipient has reached the stage where additional remittance registration is required, they should follow Servicios → Finanzas → Traer plata del exterior and Nequi’s instructions. Do not split a payment to get around a limit or reporting requirement.
Unverified wallet or compliance review
The recipient may need to finish Nequi’s identity or remittance-registration steps. Coinepay or its partners may also request information or documents about the sender, recipient, payment purpose or source of funds. Check the transfer status, respond through the appropriate service’s official process and allow the review to finish. If you are unsure which party needs information, contact Coinepay support and have the recipient check their Nequi app.
Do not confuse this with a transfer within Colombia
Nequi’s domestic $ → Envía → Nequi flow is for sending from one Nequi user to another. Colombia’s Bre-B flow uses a registered llave (key) or QR for participating banks and wallets. Neither is the same as sending an international remittance to a Nequi wallet. For a payment from abroad, choose an expressly supported Nequi remittance payout route and verify its details before confirming.
