Wave Accounting offers a free Starter Plan and paid subscriptions for eligible U.S. and Canadian businesses. If you want to pay for a Wave subscription with a Coinepay virtual card, start by choosing the right plan and purchase channel. This guide covers browser checkout, where to manage billing afterward, and what to check if a card payment does not go through.
Check the plan and your eligibility first
Wave calls its accounting tiers Starter Plan and Pro Plan. Starter is free. Pro pricing is per business, so check which business you select if your Wave account contains more than one. Wave also sells a separate Receipts Plan; receipt features are included with Pro, so you may not need both subscriptions. Online payments, payroll, and Wave Advisors are separate services or add-ons, not additional accounting tiers. In particular, subscribing to Pro does not itself approve your business to accept customer invoice payments: that requires a separate application and approval.
At the time of writing (October 2026), Wave listed U.S. Pro pricing at US$19 monthly or US$190 annually, and Canadian Pro pricing at CA$25 monthly or CA$250 annually, before applicable tax. The separate Receipts Plan was listed at US$8 monthly or US$72 annually in the U.S., and CA$11 monthly or CA$96 annually in Canada. Check Wave’s official pricing page and your checkout total before buying. Wave says published prices for new subscriptions may not immediately replace an existing subscriber’s rate; a cancellation, resubscription, or billing-cycle change may affect that rate.
Region matters: Wave says its accounting product and paid subscriptions are available to U.S. and Canadian businesses, with USD and CAD business-currency options. Use your business’s real location and your real billing details. A virtual card does not change Wave’s eligibility rules or guarantee that a payment will pass its regional checks. If your business is outside those markets, check Wave’s current availability before trying to subscribe.
What you need before checkout
- A Wave account you own. Wave allows sign-up with an email address and password or an existing Google or Apple account. The account owner completes the subscription purchase.
- A verified Coinepay account. Register and complete identity verification before using Coinepay card services. You can manage your card through the Coinepay app or 24/7 self-service dashboard.
- Your virtual card details and sufficient available funds. Coinepay issues an instant card number, expiry date, and CVV. Check the available balance and any applicable card settings in your Coinepay account. Allow for the selected billing period and applicable tax rather than relying only on the advertised plan price.
- Accurate billing information. Have the genuine name and billing address associated with your payment details ready. Confirm what Wave requests at checkout rather than entering a substitute address.
Wave’s browser purchase instructions specify payment by credit card, but they do not establish whether a particular Coinepay virtual card will qualify or be accepted. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy. The card types Wave accepts from customers paying your invoices are a different matter; those invoice-payment rules should not be treated as subscription-checkout rules.
How to buy Wave Pro or Receipts in a browser
- Prepare your Coinepay card. If you are new to Coinepay, register and complete identity verification. In the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app, locate your virtual card number, expiry date, and CVV, and check its available funds. Consult the app or support for any card settings relevant to the purchase.
- Sign in to Wave as the account owner. If you do not yet have a Wave account, create one using your email and password or a Google or Apple account. Set up your business with accurate information and confirm that it is eligible for Wave’s service.
- Open the subscription flow. In Wave’s browser interface, go to Receipts → Get started. Choose Monthly or Annual, then select the available Pro Plan or Receipts Plan option you intend to buy. If Wave asks you to choose a business, select the correct one.
- Review the order. Apply a valid coupon if you have one. Check the business, plan, billing frequency, currency, taxes, and final amount shown by Wave. Do not assume an advertised promotion applies unless it appears in your checkout total.
- Enter the card and submit. If your card meets Wave’s requirements, enter its number, expiry date, and CVV in the payment fields and provide your real billing details. Follow any security verification presented during checkout. Submit the purchase only after reviewing the charge.
- Verify the result. Wait for Wave’s confirmation and check that the intended business shows the subscription you purchased. If the result is unclear, inspect the subscription status and your Coinepay transaction activity before trying again, to avoid an unnecessary duplicate purchase.
Wave also offers an in-app purchase route: the account owner can open More → current subscription plan, choose a billing period and plan, and complete the purchase there. Coupon codes must be applied in a browser. Purchases made through Apple or Google are billed and managed through the relevant store account rather than Wave’s web billing settings, so check that store’s payment options if you choose the mobile route.
If the card is declined or checkout does not finish
Do not assume a failed payment has one specific cause. Check what Wave displays, whether Coinepay shows an attempted charge, and whether the subscription became active. Wave’s published customer-invoice payment status “Declined” describes an invoice payment that was not accepted; it is not a diagnosis of a Pro or Receipts subscription checkout failure.
- Insufficient available balance: Compare your available funds with Wave’s final checkout total, including applicable tax. If the balance is too low, add funds through an available Coinepay method and retry only after the balance updates. Check your Coinepay account for applicable funding details.
- Billing address mismatch: Recheck the name and address you entered against the genuine billing details associated with your card. Correct a typo rather than changing your location to satisfy a regional check. For an existing web-purchased subscription, Wave places address updates under business name → Business settings → Manage Subscriptions → Manage subscription → Billing & Shipping Addresses.
- Security or 3-D Secure verification: If a verification prompt appears, complete it using the legitimate instructions provided. If it times out or fails, check whether your phone or authentication method can receive the request, then try again once. Ask Coinepay support for help with a card-side authentication issue; neither the appearance of a prompt nor its outcome is guaranteed.
- Merchant region or card checks: Confirm that the Wave business and account are eligible in the U.S. or Canada and that the billing information is accurate. Wave charges subscriptions in USD or CAD according to the account’s region. If the card still cannot be used, ask Wave about its checkout requirements and contact Coinepay support about the attempted payment. Do not use a false address or another person’s identity to retry.
For a web-purchased subscription with a payment method that needs updating, Wave lists business name → Business settings → Manage Subscriptions → Manage subscription → Payment methods. A renewal failure is different from a first-time checkout failure: Wave’s terms describe a 15-calendar-day grace period and up to five retries for subscriptions purchased directly through Wave. Check your account’s current status and update the payment method promptly rather than relying on a retry.
Manage or cancel the subscription
Wave subscriptions renew automatically. For a web purchase, use Business settings → Manage Subscriptions → Manage subscription → Cancel Subscription if you want to stop renewal. For an app purchase, cancel through iOS settings or Google Play, whichever handled the purchase. Wave’s terms say to cancel at least one day before renewal; paid features remain available through the current billing period. Wave generally does not provide a refund or credit for a canceled or partly used monthly or annual subscription, except at its discretion. Apple and Google handle refund decisions for purchases made through their stores.
If you need help with the virtual card rather than your Wave plan, check the Coinepay dashboard or contact Coinepay support. For plan eligibility, checkout requirements, or a subscription’s status, consult Wave directly.
