To subscribe to Folha de S.Paulo, choose an offer on its subscription site, create or access your Folha account, and review the payment options presented at checkout. This guide explains how to prepare a Coinepay virtual card, enter its details if card payment is offered, and troubleshoot a declined payment without assuming every Folha plan accepts every card.

Before you start

You will need a Folha account or an email address you can use to create one, your real personal and billing details, and a way to review the subscription terms before paying. To use a Coinepay virtual card, register with Coinepay and complete identity verification first. Your card number, expiry date, and CVV are available through Coinepay’s self-service dashboard or mobile app. Check the app for the card’s available balance and any details relevant to your intended payment.

Folha documents credit-card payments as well as bank-account debit and boleto, but the options shown can depend on the offer and checkout. Do not assume a card option will appear for a particular plan or that Folha will accept a particular virtual card. If Folha specifies a card-type or issuing-country requirement during checkout, contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets it before you buy. If the question is which cards Folha accepts, ask Folha’s subscription support.

Choose the right Folha subscription

Folha’s main subscription page lists Digital Ilimitado, Digital Premium, Digital Premium + CasaFolha, Impresso Diariamente + Digital Premium, and Impresso Final de Semana + Digital Premium. It also points to Universitários and FolhaJus offers. Compare what each plan includes on Folha’s official subscription page rather than choosing by the introductory amount alone.

Digital planBrazil offer at the time of writing (October 2026)
Digital IlimitadoR$1.90 for the first month, then R$19.90 per month for five months; listed post-promotion price R$34.90 per month.
Digital PremiumR$1.90 for the first month, then R$19.90 per month for five months; listed post-promotion price R$49.90 per month.
Digital Premium + CasaFolhaR$19.90 per month for the first year; listed post-promotion price R$59.90 per month.

These are listed Brazilian offers for new subscribers, not a quote for your checkout. Prices may be adjusted. Check Folha’s official subscription page for the current price, promotional eligibility, renewal amount, and payment schedule before confirming. Universitários has a dedicated offer page, while FolhaJus is presented as a lawyer-specific plan; check their respective offer details if either applies to you.

The listed standard print bundles apply to addresses within the delivery perimeter in São Paulo state. If you want either print-and-digital plan, enter your real delivery address and check availability and the full billing terms with Folha. For a digital subscription outside Brazil, confirm that Folha offers a new paid subscription in your location rather than assuming that the presence of an international registration option establishes eligibility.

Sign up and enter your card at Folha checkout

  1. Open Folha’s official subscription page. Select the plan you want and read its offer details, including the price after any promotional period. Make sure a print plan can be delivered to your actual address if applicable.
  2. Create or access your Folha account. An observed digital sign-up page begins with “step 1 of 2” and asks for an email address and a password containing letters and numbers with at least six characters. Read the service terms before proceeding. If you already have an account, follow Folha’s sign-in prompts instead of creating an unnecessary second subscription.
  3. Follow the on-screen subscription prompts. Supply the real identity, contact, and billing information Folha requests. The later checkout screens can differ by offer, so use the amount and payment choices actually displayed for your plan.
  4. Select card payment if available. Folha documents credit-card payment, but other methods may appear. If the checkout offers an appropriate card field, retrieve your Coinepay card number, expiry date, and CVV from your dashboard or app and enter them carefully. Use your genuine billing details; do not change your country or address to try to satisfy a regional check.
  5. Review and confirm. Check the amount due now, subsequent billing, and any terms tied to the offer. Complete any payment authentication requested during checkout, then wait for Folha’s confirmation. Save the subscription confirmation and check your Folha account before trying again if the page stalls.

A successful card-entry screen alone does not prove that the subscription is active. If you see a pending card transaction but no Folha confirmation, check your account and contact Folha before repeating the payment, to reduce the risk of duplicate attempts.

What to check if Folha declines your card

A decline does not identify its cause by itself. Folha has not published a definitive decline-code list for these offers. A customer has reported seeing “card is not valid,” and another reported an expiry-number error from their bank; those reports are troubleshooting clues, not verified explanations of Folha’s rules. Work through these checks in order:

  • Insufficient available balance: Compare the balance shown in Coinepay with the amount Folha is attempting to charge. Consider the amount shown at checkout rather than assuming the promotional price applies to your account. If you need to add funds or check a card-specific requirement, follow the options displayed in the Coinepay app or ask support.
  • Card details or billing-address mismatch: Re-enter the number, expiry date, and CVV exactly as displayed in Coinepay. An expiry error is a reason to check the month and year carefully. Correct any typing mistake in your real name or billing address; do not invent a local address to make the payment appear eligible.
  • Authentication interruption: If a 3-D Secure or other verification step appears, complete it through the legitimate prompt and return to the Folha checkout. If the prompt never loads or times out, check your connection and retry once after confirming there was no completed subscription or charge. Ask Coinepay support about a card-side authentication issue and Folha support about a checkout-side error.
  • Merchant region or card-eligibility check: Folha may apply eligibility rules to a subscription or its payment method. Check the message on screen and verify your actual subscription location and, for print, delivery address. Ask Folha which cards and locations it permits for your chosen offer. Contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets any stated requirement before another attempt.

Record the exact error message and the time of the attempt when contacting support, but do not send your full card number or CVV in an email or chat. If another payment method is offered, review its terms before switching; the methods documented by Folha are not necessarily available for every current plan.

Update payment details or cancel later

Folha directs subscribers to its support site for payment questions, including checking payments, updating existing card or bank-debit details, switching from boleto or bank-account debit to credit card, and obtaining a replacement boleto. If you already subscribe, use those account-support paths rather than purchasing the same plan again solely to change a card. You can manage your Coinepay card from its dashboard or mobile app; changing card details there does not automatically update the payment information stored with Folha.

Folha says subscribers can request cancellation at any time through its support site or by phone: (11) 3224-3090 in Greater São Paulo, or 0800 775 8080 elsewhere from a landline. Its stated phone hours are Monday through Saturday, excluding holidays, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Folha says it charges no cancellation penalty. Check the terms of your specific offer for what happens to access and any refund after cancellation. The CasaFolha offer expressly describes a full refund when cancellation is requested within seven days of purchase confirmation; do not assume that wording is a term of every Folha plan.

Need help choosing the next step?

For plan eligibility, delivery, the payment options displayed, subscription status, or cancellation, contact Folha through its official subscription or support site. For your virtual card’s balance, details, or a possible card-side decline, use the Coinepay dashboard or contact Coinepay support. The Coinepay app is available for iOS and Android.

FAQ

Can I pay for any Folha de S.Paulo plan with a Coinepay virtual card?

Folha documents credit-card payments, but payment options and card eligibility for a particular plan must be checked at checkout. Ask Folha about accepted cards and Coinepay support about any stated card requirement.

Why does Folha say my card is not valid?

That message alone does not establish the cause. Check your available balance, card number, expiry date, CVV, and real billing details; then ask Folha or Coinepay support to investigate the relevant side of the payment.

Where can I change the card on an existing Folha subscription?

Folha directs subscribers to its support site to update existing card details or ask about changing their payment method.

Can I subscribe to a Folha print bundle from outside São Paulo state?

The listed standard print offers apply within the delivery perimeter in São Paulo state. Check eligibility for your actual address with Folha before subscribing.
