Nikkei Asia is the English-language business and politics publication from Nikkei, covering companies, markets and policy across Asia. If you want unbroken access to its reporting, this guide walks through subscribing on the Nikkei Asia website and paying at checkout with a Coinepay virtual card. It also explains how app-store subscriptions differ, and what to check when a card is declined.
These notes cover Nikkei Asia, which is separate from Nikkei's Japanese-language Online Edition. Prices and plan availability vary by your country or region of residence, so always confirm the live figure at checkout on Nikkei's own pages.
What you need before you start
- A registered Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. You can create an account and finish verification before you buy.
- A Coinepay virtual card issued in your dashboard, with its card number, expiry date and CVV visible.
- Enough available balance on the card to cover the full subscription term you choose, plus any currency conversion your card applies.
- Your real billing details — name and address — as held by Coinepay. Use your genuine identity and residence; do not enter false details to work around regional checks.
- A working email inbox, because Nikkei sends a six-digit verification code during sign-up.
Nikkei Asia's payment FAQ names credit card, Apple Pay and PayPal for individual web subscriptions, and lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express and JCB as accepted card networks. Nikkei does not separately confirm acceptance of debit or prepaid cards. Coinepay does not publish whether its card is treated as prepaid, debit or credit, so if that distinction matters for your purchase, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Nikkei's requirement before you subscribe.
Choose your Nikkei Asia plan
Individual web subscriptions are sold by term rather than by content tier. At the time of writing (October 2026), Nikkei's promotion page lists the terms as:
- 1-month plan
- 3-month plan
- 12-month plan
That same promotion page displayed standard individual web prices of US$18 for one month, US$42 for three months and US$120 for twelve months when checked in October 2026. The actual price you are charged depends on your country or region of residence and may differ, so treat those figures as a reference only and read the amount shown on Nikkei's live checkout before you confirm. Nikkei also offers Individual, Online Group and several Corporate subscription types; Corporate pricing is quoted by user count with volume discounts and is usually paid by bank transfer, so this guide focuses on the individual web plan you can buy with a card.
Step-by-step: subscribe on the Nikkei Asia website
- Create your Coinepay virtual card in the app or dashboard and keep the card number, expiry and CVV ready. Have your Coinepay billing name and address to hand.
- Go to the Nikkei Asia website and open the subscription page. Pick the 1-month, 3-month or 12-month plan and select Subscribe Now.
- Register a new Nikkei ID or log in if you already have one.
- Check your email for the six-digit verification code and enter it to confirm your address.
- On the payment screen, choose credit card as the method and type your Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV. Enter the billing address exactly as it appears in Coinepay.
- Approve any 3-D Secure confirmation step if your card prompts one (see troubleshooting below).
- Wait for the Success screen. Nikkei also sends a completion email confirming your registration.
After purchase, you manage everything from Your account: saved cards and PayPal live under Payment methods, your plan and auto-renewal controls under Subscriptions, and downloadable or emailable receipts under Transactions.
Paying through the iOS or Android app
In the app the path is Account → Subscribe → choose plan → create account or log in → verify email → Proceed to Payment. The key difference is that an in-app purchase is completed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, not Nikkei's own checkout. That means the charge goes to the payment method on file with your app store, and in-app prices differ by store region — for example, the US App Store showed Monthly $17.99 and Annual $119.99 in October 2026. To pay with your Coinepay card directly on Nikkei's checkout, use the website flow above. App-store purchases are also managed through the store, not Nikkei's web payment controls.
Troubleshooting a declined card
Nikkei does not publish specific issuer decline messages, and a decline can come from the card, the merchant or the network. Work through these common causes in order:
Insufficient balance
A term subscription is charged as a single amount up front. Make sure your Coinepay card holds enough to cover the full plan plus any conversion, then retry. You can top up and check the available balance in the Coinepay app.
Billing address mismatch
If the address you typed does not match the billing details registered to your Coinepay card, the authorization can fail. Re-enter the name and address precisely as shown in your Coinepay profile, with no extra spaces or abbreviations.
3-D Secure authentication
Many card transactions trigger a 3-D Secure confirmation. Complete the prompt in the Coinepay app or via the verification method Coinepay uses. If no prompt arrives, check your app notifications and try again rather than resubmitting repeatedly.
Merchant region and card-type checks
Nikkei's subscription fees vary by country or region of residence, and checkout can behave differently depending on where you are. Nikkei names credit-card networks but does not confirm acceptance of every card type. If your card is declined after the checks above, confirm with Coinepay support that your card is suitable for this merchant, and verify your Coinepay card details are entered correctly.
Apple Pay–registered cards
If you originally saved a card to Nikkei via Apple Pay, its expiry date cannot be edited in Nikkei's account settings — Nikkei instructs you to register a new card instead. Add your current Coinepay card as a fresh entry under Payment methods.
Managing renewal, receipts and cancellation
Subscriptions renew automatically. For a web subscription, cancel through Your account → Subscriptions → Cancel auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the term ends, Japan Standard Time; your access continues through the paid term. Nikkei states that ongoing fees, including charges after an automatic renewal, are not refundable, with a separate pro-rata refund provision only if Nikkei itself terminates a fee-based service under its terms. Nikkei's terms also require at least 30 days' advance notice before any increase to a renewal fee. Keep an eye on your Coinepay balance before each renewal date so a scheduled charge does not fail.
Keep your Coinepay card ready
You can view your card details, check balance and complete any 3-D Secure prompt from the Coinepay apps for iOS and Android, or from the 24/7 self-service dashboard. If a payment still will not go through after the steps above, reach Coinepay support or the Telegram channel for help. For questions about your plan, billing region or access, contact Nikkei Asia's own customer support.
