Hetzner Cloud lets you create servers in its Console and bills you for the resources you use. If you want to pay with a Coinepay virtual card, set up the card first, add it to Hetzner Accounts, and check how future invoices will be paid. This guide walks through those steps and the most useful checks if a card payment fails.
What you need before you start
- A Coinepay account and virtual card. Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Your virtual card provides a card number, expiry date and CVV. Check the Coinepay app or dashboard for its current details and available funds.
- Your real account and billing information. Hetzner asks for contact and billing details during registration. Enter information that accurately identifies you or your business, and keep it consistent with the details used for payment.
- A budget for ongoing usage. Creating a cloud server starts billable usage when access is provided. A powered-off server continues to incur charges until you delete it. Allow for any optional resources, applicable tax and future invoices—not just the server price you first see.
Hetzner lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express and UnionPay among its accepted card networks, but says automatic card charging excludes UnionPay. Available payment methods vary by country and appear in your individual Hetzner account. Check the card details and payment options shown in your accounts before relying on a card for recurring invoices. If you are unsure whether your Coinepay card meets a checkout requirement, contact Coinepay support before you buy.
Choose a Hetzner Cloud server and estimate the bill
Hetzner groups cloud servers into Cost-Optimized shared-vCPU plans, Regular Performance shared-vCPU plans and General Purpose dedicated-vCPU plans. Examples include the CX23 and Arm-based CAX11 in Cost-Optimized, CPX22 in Regular Performance, and CCX13 in General Purpose. The Cost-Optimized category was marked “Currently not available” on Hetzner’s public site at the time of writing, so check what your chosen location actually offers in Console.
At the time of writing (October 2026), Hetzner’s published new-order monthly cap for a CPX22 in Germany or Finland was €19.49 or $22.99, excluding VAT and IPv4. These are separately published EUR and USD prices, not a currency conversion. Hourly billing applies to shorter use, with partial hours rounded up and server charges capped at the applicable monthly price. A public IPv4 address can add a charge; tax depends on your billing location. Check Hetzner’s official cloud pricing page and the options shown during server creation for current amounts.
Location also affects plan choice: Hetzner lists cloud locations in Germany, Finland, the United States and Singapore, but not every tier is offered in every location. If you are comparing a US-based CPX tier with a Europe-based one, verify both availability and the displayed price rather than assuming they match. Hetzner says cloud servers have no setup fee.
Step 1: Create your Coinepay virtual card
- Create your Coinepay account if you do not already have one, then complete the required identity verification.
- Open the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app and obtain your virtual card’s number, expiry date and CVV. Coinepay also offers an iOS app and an Android app.
- Check the available funds before adding the card to Hetzner. If you need guidance on funding, card settings or an available spending limit, use the information in your Coinepay account or ask support; do not assume a particular limit or funding method applies.
Keep the card details private. Use your real billing details at checkout rather than changing your address to try to pass a regional or payment check.
Step 2: Register and add your card in Hetzner Accounts
- Go to Hetzner Accounts at accounts.hetzner.com/login and select Register Now. Enter your contact and billing information, then verify your email using the link Hetzner sends you.
- Choose your account currency, EUR or USD, during account creation. Hetzner says that choice cannot later be changed on the same account, so select it deliberately before continuing.
- Log in to Hetzner Accounts. Open the top-right profile icon to find your account’s payment methods and contact details. Add your Coinepay virtual card if card payment is offered for your account, using the card number, expiry date and CVV shown by Coinepay.
- Review the billing information on the Hetzner account and complete any verification or authentication requested during card setup. If Hetzner presents an eligibility or region-related restriction, follow its stated requirements rather than trying alternative details.
Hetzner Accounts is where you manage payment information and view Invoices. Hetzner Console is the separate interface for creating and managing cloud resources. Adding a card is not the same as buying a fixed-term subscription: cloud charges depend on usage and appear on subsequent invoices.
Step 3: Create the server and understand invoice payment
- In Hetzner Console, open or create a project and go to Servers → Add server.
- Choose the server location, type and image. Review networking and any optional features before placing the order. Make sure the displayed configuration fits your workload and budget.
- Select CREATE & BUY NOW when you are ready. Server billing starts when access is provided, rather than when you later decide to run an application on it.
- Watch Hetzner Accounts → Invoices for bills covering prior usage. Hetzner says invoices are due immediately. Eligible cards can be charged automatically; whether that applies to your selected card and account should be checked in your payment settings and invoices.
If you are managing costs, remember that turning a server off does not stop its charges. To stop a server’s ongoing charge, go to its Console project → Server → Delete and confirm. Deletion is irreversible, and you may still receive a final invoice for usage before deletion. Back up anything you need first.
Troubleshoot a declined card or unpaid invoice
First determine whether the problem occurred while adding the payment method, during authentication, or when Hetzner tried to collect an invoice. An account or order held for registration or security review is not necessarily a card decline.
- Insufficient available funds: Check your Coinepay balance and any spending setting in the app or dashboard. Budget for the full amount Hetzner is attempting to collect, including applicable tax and other billed resources, before retrying.
- Billing details do not match: Review the name and billing address entered in Hetzner Accounts and the genuine details associated with your payment account. Correct mistakes using your real information; do not substitute an address in another country.
- 3-D Secure or another authentication step does not complete: Follow the verification prompt, if one appears, and check your Coinepay app for any action you need to take. If authentication repeatedly fails or no prompt arrives, contact Coinepay support and Hetzner billing with the time of the attempt and the message you saw. Avoid sending either party your full card number or CVV in an ordinary message.
- Merchant or region checks: Hetzner says payment-method availability varies by country. Check the methods displayed in your Hetzner account and confirm your real billing and registration details are complete. If the card option is unavailable or an order is held, ask Hetzner which requirement applies; Coinepay support can help check your card-related question. Do not assume a failed order proves a general restriction on your country or card.
- An overdue invoice: Hetzner may disable card or PayPal payment for sufficiently overdue invoices and require a bank transfer. Read the instructions on the invoice or ask Hetzner billing before attempting another card payment.
For a failed automatic charge, Hetzner says it emails the customer. You can try Accounts → Invoices → Overview → Pay now; Hetzner allows up to five payment attempts there. If those attempts do not resolve the invoice, ask Hetzner billing about a manual card charge or another payment method available on your account. Do not repeatedly create new accounts or change billing identities to get around a review.
Keep the card and cloud costs under control
Check Hetzner Accounts for your invoice dates, charges and payment status, and keep sufficient funds available if your card is set up for automatic payments. Hetzner changed customer invoice dates in October 2026 and says some customers may receive two invoices during that transition; your individual billing date is shown in Accounts. Review each invoice rather than assuming two notices are duplicates.
If you change a server type, inspect the current price before confirming. Hetzner’s published 2026 price adjustment applies to new orders and rescales, while an unchanged older instance may have a different legacy price. For billing disputes, cancellation questions or an order under review, contact Hetzner through your account. For questions about your virtual card or its available funds, use Coinepay support.

FAQ
Can I add a Coinepay virtual card to Hetzner Accounts?
Hetzner lists several accepted card networks, but payment options vary by account and country. Check the methods shown in Hetzner Accounts and confirm any card eligibility question with Coinepay support before buying.
Does turning off a Hetzner Cloud server stop billing?
No. A powered-off server continues to incur charges until you delete it. Deletion is irreversible, and a final invoice for earlier usage may follow.
Where can I retry a failed Hetzner invoice payment?
Go to Hetzner Accounts → Invoices → Overview → Pay now. Hetzner allows up to five attempts there; contact its billing team if payment still fails.
What should I do if card authentication fails?
Complete any verification prompt and check your Coinepay app for a required action. If it still fails, give Coinepay support and Hetzner billing the attempt time and error message, but not your full card details.
