Linear is a project and issue-tracking tool used by software and product teams. If you want to move from the Free plan to a paid plan, you need a working payment method. This guide explains how to subscribe to Linear using a Coinepay virtual card, what to prepare before checkout, and how to troubleshoot the most common reasons a card is declined.
What you need before you start
Linear's terms authorize subscription payments by credit card or ACH, and the self-service checkout is built around card payments. A Coinepay virtual card gives you an instant card number, expiry date and CVV you can enter at checkout. Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. You must register and verify before card services are available. If you have not signed up yet, create your account and finish verification first.
- A Coinepay virtual card issued in your Coinepay dashboard or the mobile app (iOS / Android), with its card number, expiry and CVV ready.
- Enough balance on the card to cover the charge. Linear's Free plan is $0, but paid plans charge upfront.
- Your real billing details — name, address and country — matching the records on your Coinepay account.
Linear's accepted card networks and card types (for example debit versus prepaid) are not spelled out in its public billing documentation. If you are unsure whether your card will be accepted, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirement before you buy.
Linear plans and pricing
Linear offers four plans: Free, Basic, Business and Enterprise. At the time of writing (October 2026), US-dollar prices shown on Linear's pricing page were:
| Plan | Price (billed yearly) |
|---|---|
| Free | $0 |
| Basic | $10 per user/month ($120 per user/year) |
| Business | $16 per user/month ($192 per user/year) |
| Enterprise | Custom quote, annual billing only |
Basic and Business also offer monthly billing, but the monthly-billed rates and local-currency pricing for regions outside the US vary and were not confirmed on the public page. Always check linear.app/pricing for the current price in your currency before you subscribe. Subscription charges cover the unsuspended users in a single workspace; annual plans charge for the initial seats upfront and reconcile later seat changes through prorated charges or future-invoice credits.
Step 1: Create a Linear workspace
Go to Linear's pricing page and select Get started to create a workspace. Linear's start guide recommends using a work email. You can sign in with Google authentication or an email link/code. The Free plan lets you explore Linear before committing to a paid subscription.
Step 2: Choose a paid plan and open checkout
When you are ready to upgrade, a workspace admin opens Settings → Administration → Billing. This is where you manage the plan, payment details, billing email, invoices, and any failed or past-due charges. Select the plan you want (Basic or Business) and your billing cycle (monthly or yearly) to move to the checkout page.
If you are buying on behalf of a company, select "I'm purchasing as a business" on the checkout page so you can add a VAT number. For Enterprise, Linear advertises invoice/purchase-order billing, which you arrange through their sales process rather than self-service checkout.
Step 3: Enter your Coinepay virtual card
At checkout, enter your Coinepay virtual card details exactly as shown in your Coinepay app:
- Card number, expiry date and CVV.
- Cardholder name as it appears on your Coinepay account.
- Billing address and country matching your Coinepay records.
Review the total, confirm the plan and seat count, then submit. If Linear requires an additional security step (3-D Secure), approve it through your Coinepay app. After a successful charge, your workspace moves onto the paid plan and the invoice appears under Settings → Administration → Billing.
Optional: AI-credit top-ups
Linear's optional AI credits are separate from your subscription. Top-ups accept credit cards only, are processed by Stripe in USD, and can use a different card from your subscription. The documented minimums are $10 for a manual top-up and $50 for an automatic reload. Note that purchased AI credits expire 12 months after purchase, and expired balances cannot be refunded, transferred or restored, so top up only what you expect to use.
Troubleshooting: card declined or payment failed
Linear's billing guide confirms that failed or past-due charges show up in your billing settings, and that an unsuccessful initial charge may be retried. If a payment fails, work through these common causes.
Insufficient balance
Annual plans charge the full first-period amount upfront, so a card with just one month's balance may be declined. Check your available balance in the Coinepay app and top it up to cover the full charge, including any AI-credit top-up you intend to make, then retry from Billing.
Billing address mismatch
If the address or name you typed at checkout does not match the details on your Coinepay card, the charge can be rejected. Re-enter your real billing details exactly as they appear in Coinepay. Do not use a made-up address.
3-D Secure not completed
If an authentication prompt appears and is not approved in time, the payment fails. Make sure your Coinepay app is installed and you can receive notifications, then retry and confirm promptly.
Merchant or region checks
Linear does not publish a country-by-country card-acceptance list, and the US sales-tax locations it lists are not an availability list. Likewise, the accepted card networks and types are not confirmed in Linear's payment documentation. If your card keeps being declined after balance and address are correct, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card is suitable for this merchant. Use your real identity and billing details at all times — do not attempt to work around a merchant's regional or payment checks.
Still stuck?
Check the charge status under Settings → Administration → Billing in Linear. Keep your payment details current, because overdue fees can lead to suspended access. For card-side issues, reach Coinepay via support or Telegram.
Managing, canceling or not renewing
Admins can cancel in Billing. A cancellation takes effect at the end of the current monthly or yearly subscription period, with no refund for mid-period cancellation. Linear's terms also allow nonrenewal by emailing [email protected], provided Linear confirms the cancellation in writing. After cancellation the workspace returns to Free without deleting its contents, though a workspace above 250 issues cannot create additional issues on Free.
To keep your Coinepay card ready for the next renewal, you can review the card's balance and status at any time in the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app.
Tip for teams and businesses
If your company runs several subscriptions and ad accounts alongside Linear, Coinepay lets businesses issue a dedicated virtual card for each one with custom spending limits per card. That makes it easier to keep your Linear invoice separate from other tools and to track spend cleanly.

FAQ
Which Linear plans can I pay for with a Coinepay virtual card?
You can use a Coinepay virtual card at Linear's self-service checkout for the Basic and Business plans, on monthly or yearly billing. The Free plan costs nothing, and Enterprise uses a custom quote with invoice/purchase-order billing arranged through Linear's sales team.
Does Linear accept my Coinepay card type?
Linear confirms credit-card acceptance but does not publish which card networks or card types it accepts. Enter your real billing details at checkout, and if the card is declined contact Coinepay support to confirm your card is suitable before trying again.
Why was my Linear payment declined?
The most common causes are insufficient balance (annual plans charge the full amount upfront), a billing address or name that does not match your Coinepay records, an uncompleted 3-D Secure prompt, or merchant region checks. Fix the balance and details, then retry from Settings → Administration → Billing.
Can I use a different card for Linear AI credits?
Yes. AI-credit top-ups accept credit cards only, are processed by Stripe in USD, and may use a different card from your subscription. Minimums are $10 for a manual top-up and $50 for automatic reload, and purchased credits expire 12 months after purchase.
What happens to my data if I cancel Linear?
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period with no mid-period refund, and the workspace returns to Free without deleting its contents. A workspace above 250 issues cannot create new issues on Free.
