To pay for a Granola subscription, first set up your Granola workspace and a Coinepay virtual card. Granola bills by workspace, so check the plan and number of active members before you enter your card at checkout. This guide covers the upgrade path, billing management, and what to check if a payment does not go through. Card acceptance depends on Granola’s checkout and the payment checks applied to your transaction.
What you need before you start
- A Granola account and workspace. Granola’s desktop sign-in offers Google, Microsoft/Outlook, and Enterprise SSO. If you sign in with Google or Microsoft, grant the permissions needed to connect the corresponding calendar.
- A verified Coinepay account. You must register and complete identity verification before using Coinepay card services. You can register with Coinepay and manage your account through its self-service dashboard or mobile app.
- Your virtual card details. Coinepay provides a card number, expiry date, and CVV when it issues a virtual card. Have the details ready for Granola’s checkout; check your Coinepay app for the funds available to pay.
- Your real billing details. Use the name and address that genuinely apply to your payment. Granola’s billing guidance says Stripe calculates VAT from the billing address, and applicable taxes may be added to published prices.
If someone else manages your company’s Granola billing, coordinate with that person before upgrading. A workspace member may see the billing contact’s email instead of subscription controls.
Choose the Granola plan and check the seat count
Granola’s plan names are Basic, Business, and Enterprise. At the time of writing (October 2026), Granola published Basic at $0 per user per month, Business at $14 per user per month billed monthly, and Enterprise from $35 per user per month. Enterprise billing may involve a monthly arrangement or an annual contract discussed with sales. Check Granola’s official pricing page and your checkout summary for current pricing and any applicable taxes before you confirm.
Granola bills per workspace: members of one workspace share its tier, and each active member counts as a seat. An invitation does not become a billable seat until the invitee accepts it. Before upgrading, review which workspace you are changing and how many active members it has. Paying for one workspace does not, by itself, change the plan of another workspace.
Basic may be enough if you do not need the paid tier. Granola’s billing guide describes a 30-day in-app note-history window on Basic; older notes remain stored rather than being deleted because they fall outside that window. Compare the current plan features on Granola’s official pricing page instead of choosing solely by the monthly price.
How to subscribe using your Coinepay virtual card
- Set up Coinepay. Complete registration and identity verification, then access your issued virtual card in the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app. Check the available funds against the amount you expect to pay, including any tax shown at checkout.
- Sign in to Granola. Use the Google, Microsoft/Outlook, or Enterprise SSO option appropriate for your account. Complete the sign-in and calendar-permission steps shown to you.
- Open the correct workspace. In Granola, select the workspace name, then go to Settings → Billing → Upgrade. Review the plan and workspace details before proceeding.
- Complete the Stripe checkout tab. Granola opens checkout in a Stripe tab. If card payment is offered, enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date, and CVV, along with your real billing details. Review the displayed total and any recurring-payment terms. Complete any verification requested during payment rather than closing the tab.
- Confirm the result. Granola says the workspace upgrades when payment lands. Return to Settings → Billing to check the subscription status. If the payment appears complete but the workspace has not upgraded, avoid repeatedly submitting it; check your billing record and contact the appropriate support team.
Granola’s platform terms refer to credit card, debit card, and ACH information, as well as certain purchase-order arrangements. Those terms do not mean every payment option will appear in your self-service checkout. Use the options actually presented to you, and do not assume a particular card will be accepted.
Paying on behalf of a workspace
If a colleague handles payment, Granola offers Settings → Billing → Share checkout link. The generated link is valid for seven days and lets another person pay without accessing the Granola account. Confirm the intended workspace, plan, and payer before sharing it through a trusted channel. The payer should enter their own genuine payment and billing information; sharing a checkout link does not require sharing a Granola password or your virtual card details.
Troubleshooting a declined card or incomplete upgrade
Granola does not publish a definitive list of checkout decline messages. A payment failure can have several causes, so use the message shown in your checkout, if any, as a starting point—not as proof of the cause. If a charge appears on your card but the upgrade is missing, check the transaction and billing status before attempting payment again.
Insufficient available funds
Compare the amount available for the card in Coinepay with Granola’s final checkout total, not just the advertised per-user price. Active seats and applicable tax can affect that total. If funds are insufficient, arrange enough available funds through the options shown in your Coinepay account, then retry once you can cover the displayed amount. Check the app or contact Coinepay support for questions about your card or funds.
Billing details do not match
Re-enter the card number, expiry date, and CVV carefully. Check that the billing name and address you supplied are your real details and are consistent with the information required for the payment. Because Granola’s billing guidance says VAT is calculated from the billing address, also review the updated checkout total after correcting an address. Do not enter a different country or an invented address to try to force a payment through.
Verification or 3-D Secure does not finish
If checkout asks you to complete a cardholder-verification step, follow the instructions presented and return to the checkout tab afterward. A timed-out or abandoned verification can leave a payment incomplete. If a 3-D Secure challenge fails or never arrives, check the status in your Coinepay app and ask Coinepay support for help with the card-side verification. Do not treat a pending or unconfirmed payment as a successful subscription upgrade.
Merchant region or payment checks
A checkout may reject a transaction following its location, billing, or payment checks. Confirm that you are using your actual location and billing details, and ask Granola about any restriction shown in its checkout. Granola’s terms prohibit use from comprehensively US-embargoed countries or regions, including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Crimea, and the named Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Coinepay also does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions. Do not try to bypass either service’s restrictions. If the checkout specifies a card-type or issuing-country requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets it before you buy.
Manage or cancel the subscription later
For an existing paid workspace, go to Settings → Billing → Manage subscription. This opens Stripe’s billing portal, where the billing administrator can update payment details, view invoices, change plans, or cancel. To cancel, choose Cancel subscription there. Granola says paid access continues until the end of the current billing period, after which the workspace moves to Basic.
Review renewal dates and invoices in the billing portal rather than assuming removing a card cancels the plan. Granola’s platform terms say payments are generally non-refundable, with a specified exception for unused prepaid fees when a customer terminates for cause under its breach procedure. If you have a billing dispute or need that exception assessed, contact Granola through its official support channels.
