Garena Shells are the in-platform currency you top up once and then spend on games like Free Fire and others in the Garena ecosystem. Unlike a monthly subscription, Shells are bought in one-time denominations and loaded to your game account. This guide explains what you need, how the top-up flow works, and how to pay with a Coinepay virtual card issued from the Coinepay app or dashboard.

Before you start, note one important point from Garena's own listings: card options vary by market, and a direct Visa/Mastercard checkout for Shell top-ups is not confirmed in every region. Confirm the exact payment methods on your local Garena Shop before you buy, and read the troubleshooting section below.

What you need before you start

  • A verified Garena account linked to the game you play.
  • A Coinepay account with completed identity verification (KYC). You must register and finish KYC before card services are available — start at the Coinepay sign-up page.
  • A Coinepay virtual card with its card number, expiry date and CVV, which you can view in the app after issuing the card.
  • Enough available balance on the card to cover the Shell denomination you want, plus any amount shown at checkout.
  • Your real billing details — name and billing address as held by Coinepay. Use your genuine identity; do not enter invented details.

Coinepay card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions. Some services are not available in every jurisdiction, and virtual-asset-related services are not available to residents of mainland China.

Choose your Garena Shell denomination

Garena Shop is country-specific, so the denominations and prices you see depend on which regional store you use. Listing names recorded on October 19, 2026 include:

  • Singapore (shop.garena.sg): 320, 640, 960, 1,600, 3,200 and 24,000 Shell. At the time of writing (October 2026) an indexed page showed 320 Shell at S$10.20, 640 at S$20.40, 960 at S$30.60 and 1,600 at S$51; prices for 3,200 and 24,000 were not confirmed.
  • Malaysia (shop.garena.my): 65, 130, 260, 390, 520, 650, 1,300, 2,600, 3,900, 5,200, 6,500, 13,000, 26,000 and 39,000 Shell. A September 2026 page showed 3,900 Shell at RM324; other prices were not confirmed.
  • Philippines (shop.garena.ph): 50, 100, 200, 300, 500, 1,000, 25,000 and 50,000 Shell; peso prices were not confirmed.

Prices change and vary by region, so always confirm the current amount on the official Garena Shop page for your country before paying.

Step-by-step: paying for Garena Shells

  1. Issue or open your Coinepay virtual card. In the Coinepay app or dashboard, create a virtual card (or open an existing one) and note the card number, expiry and CVV. Make sure the available balance covers your chosen denomination.
  2. Open your regional Garena Shop. Go to the Shell Top Up page for your country (for example shop.garena.sg, shop.garena.my or shop.garena.ph). Use the store that matches where you legitimately live and play.
  3. Log in with your game account. The Shell Top Up pages follow the pattern Login with your game account → Top-up Amount → Payment Method. Sign in and confirm the correct account is shown.
  4. Select the Top-up Amount. Choose the Shell denomination you want under the Purchase option (Redeem is for voucher codes).
  5. Choose a payment method. The methods shown differ by market. Singapore listings display ShopeePay, PayPal and Razer Gold Wallet, with a separate prepaid-card channel on the Singapore site. Malaysia listings display ShopeePay, Touch 'n Go, U Mobile Direct Billing, Digi DCB, Celcom DCB, Razer Gold Wallet, FPX and PayPal. Philippines listings display QR PH, ShopeePay / MariBank / SPayLater and PayPal. If a card option is offered, select it; if not, consider routing through a supported wallet that you fund separately.
  6. Enter your Coinepay card details. Type the card number, expiry and CVV exactly as shown in the app, and enter your billing name and address as held by Coinepay.
  7. Complete any security check. If 3-D Secure (an extra verification step) appears, approve it through the method your card requires.
  8. Confirm and check your balance. After the payment succeeds, the Shells should appear in your game account. Keep the confirmation for your records.

Because Visa/Mastercard checkout appears for some game-item purchases on Garena's Malaysia and Singapore sites but is not confirmed for Shell top-ups in these markets, check what your local Shell page actually offers. Whether any given merchant accepts a particular card is something only the checkout can confirm — if a card step restricts card types, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirement before you buy.

Troubleshooting a declined card

If your payment fails, work through the most common causes below.

Insufficient balance

Confirm the card's available balance covers the full amount shown at checkout. Top up the card in the Coinepay app and try again. An expired card or an exhausted limit are also common decline reasons.

Billing address mismatch

Enter the billing name and address exactly as they appear in Coinepay. A mismatch between what you type and what your card provider has on file can trigger a decline.

3-D Secure not completed

If a verification prompt appears and is not finished, the charge is declined. Make sure you can receive and approve the 3-D Secure step, then retry the purchase.

Merchant region checks

Garena Shop is country-specific, and purchases and payment recipients depend on jurisdiction. Users have reported messages such as "Sorry, this card is not allowed to be used here. Please switch to its issued country to continue" and "Sorry, this card cannot be used in the country you selected" when a card and the selected store region do not match. These are user-reported messages, not an official diagnostic list, but they point to a region check. Use the Garena store for the country where you genuinely reside and do not attempt to bypass regional restrictions. If you believe your card should work, contact Coinepay support.

Still stuck?

If none of the above resolves it, reach Coinepay via the support page or Telegram. The dashboard is self-service and available 24/7, and the app is on iOS and Google Play. For issues on Garena's side, contact Garena support.

Refunds and good to know

Garena's terms state that Shell and other virtual-currency purchases and prepayments are generally final and non-refundable, except where the law or an express offer provides otherwise; third-party payment providers may have additional terms. Double-check the denomination and the account you are topping up before you confirm. Garena's English terms were last modified on 29 June 2026, so review the current terms on Garena's official site for the latest wording.

Shell availability differs by country — for example, the official U.S. top-up page lists game purchases but not Shell Top Up, so U.S. Shell availability is not confirmed. Always use your local, official Garena Shop and your real identity and billing details.

FAQ

Can I pay for Garena Shells directly with a Coinepay virtual card?

It depends on your region. Garena Shop payment methods vary by country, and a direct Visa/Mastercard checkout for Shell top-ups is not confirmed in every market. Check the payment options on your local Garena Shell page, and contact Coinepay support if a card step restricts card types before you buy.

Why does Garena say my card can't be used in the selected country?

Garena Shop is country-specific and runs a region check. Users have reported messages like "this card cannot be used in the country you selected." Use the Garena store for the country where you actually live, and don't try to bypass regional restrictions.

What should I do if my Coinepay card is declined at checkout?

Check for sufficient balance and a non-expired card, enter your billing name and address exactly as held by Coinepay, and complete any 3-D Secure prompt. If it still fails, contact Coinepay support through the app, support page or Telegram.

Are Garena Shell purchases refundable?

Garena's terms state that Shell and other virtual-currency purchases are generally final and non-refundable, except where the law or an express offer provides otherwise. Confirm the denomination and account before paying, and check Garena's current terms.

Do I need to verify my identity before using a Coinepay card?

Yes. You must register and complete KYC identity verification before card services are available. You can then issue a virtual card and view its number, expiry and CVV in the Coinepay app or dashboard.
