Adobe Commerce is an enterprise e-commerce platform, and paying for it works differently from a typical monthly consumer subscription. This guide explains what Adobe Commerce actually charges you for, where a Coinepay virtual card can help, and how to handle the most common card-declined problems. It also clears up a point that confuses many first-time buyers: paying Adobe for your Commerce licence is not the same transaction as a shopper paying on a storefront you build.

Before you start

To use a Coinepay card for any online payment, you first need an active card. If you do not have one yet:

  1. Create your Coinepay account and complete identity verification (KYC). This is required before card services are available.
  2. Install the Coinepay app from the App Store or Google Play, or sign in to the web dashboard.
  3. Issue a virtual card. You will instantly see the card number, expiry date and CVV, which you use for online checkout.
  4. Add funds and confirm your billing address, since the billing address you enter at checkout must match the one on your Coinepay account.

Services related to virtual assets are not available to residents of mainland China, and some services are not offered in every jurisdiction. Check the Coinepay app for what is available to you.

How Adobe Commerce is actually purchased

Adobe currently lists three offerings: Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service (SaaS), Adobe Commerce on Cloud (PaaS), and Adobe Commerce Optimizer (which works with an existing commerce engine rather than providing its own checkout). On Adobe's pricing page each of these shows a "Get pricing" option rather than a fixed public price.

At the time of writing (October 2026), Adobe does not publish regional subscription prices or a named Basic/Pro-style tier list for these products. Because pricing is not public, treat any figure you see elsewhere with caution and confirm amounts on Adobe's official pricing page: business.adobe.com.

The published route to buy is to request pricing and arrange a sales order. That order sets the products, dates, quantities and the agreed price. Under Adobe's enterprise terms, direct customers pay according to that order and receive invoices electronically; if you buy through an Adobe partner, payment terms are set by the partner.

Because Adobe's accepted payment methods for Commerce enterprise invoices are set by your sales order (or partner) and are not published as a fixed list, confirm with your Adobe account contact whether a card payment is accepted for your specific order before you rely on one. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets any requirement the order specifies.

Where your Coinepay card fits

A virtual card is most useful for card-based checkouts. For a negotiated Adobe Commerce licence billed by invoice under a sales order, whether a card can be used depends on the terms of that order. If your order does allow card payment, you enter the Coinepay card details the same way you would any card.

Adobe describes Admin Console → Account as the place for enterprise contract, payment-method and billing details. Whether a particular Commerce contract permits self-service payment-method changes there varies by contract, so if you do not see an editable card field, your payment method is likely governed by the order itself. Do not confuse these settings with Commerce Admin → Sales → Payment Services → Settings, which configures how your shoppers pay on your storefront — not how you pay Adobe.

Step-by-step: paying with the card where it is accepted

  1. Get your pricing and order. Request pricing on Adobe's site and work through your sales order (or partner) so you know the product, term and amount.
  2. Open the payment or billing screen. For self-service card entry, this is in Admin Console → Account, if your contract allows it.
  3. Enter the card details. Copy the card number, expiry date and CVV from your Coinepay app exactly.
  4. Enter the billing address. Use the real billing address registered to your Coinepay account. A mismatch is one of the most common decline causes.
  5. Fund the card first. Make sure the available balance covers the charge, including any applicable taxes shown on the invoice.
  6. Complete 3-D Secure if prompted. Approve the verification request in your Coinepay app or via the one-time code so the payment can authenticate.
  7. Keep the invoice. Save the electronic invoice or receipt for your records.

Storefront payments are a separate thing

Once you run a Commerce store, your shoppers pay through whatever you configure. Through Adobe's Payment Services, and depending on your configuration and the buyer's location, a storefront can offer credit/debit cards, PayPal, Pay Later, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay and certain European local methods. Standard (Express Checkout) has fewer options than Advanced. Adobe's Braintree integration lets a merchant enable American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, JCB, Diners and Maestro International, though that list is integration-specific. Merchants must complete Payment Services onboarding before processing any payments. None of this is a list of methods Adobe accepts for your own Commerce invoice.

Payment Services documents Advanced availability in 37 listed countries and Standard availability in more than 200 countries, with buyer options varying by region — for example, Venmo is US-only and Pay Later is available in the US and UK. Adobe Commerce on Cloud is unavailable in China and Russia, where only on-premises deployments are supported. Always use your real business details and comply with Adobe's terms rather than trying to work around a regional restriction.

Troubleshooting common card declines

Adobe's documentation lists transaction reason codes on the merchant reporting side. These are merchant-facing reasons, not necessarily the exact message a customer sees, but they point to the real cause:

ReasonWhat it points toWhat to do
5120Insufficient fundsTop up your Coinepay card so the balance covers the full amount plus taxes, then retry.
5650Bank requires 3-D Secure authenticationComplete the verification prompt in the Coinepay app; do not close the checkout window before it finishes.
9500Bank suspected fraudRetry, or confirm the payment in the Coinepay app if a security check appears.
INSTRUMENT_DECLINEDThe selected payment method was declinedRe-check the card number, expiry and CVV, or try again after confirming funds.
PAYMENT_DENIEDPayPal suspected fraud (PayPal path only)Not card-related; applies to PayPal checkouts.

Other things to check:

  • Billing address mismatch. The address at checkout must match your Coinepay billing address exactly, including country and postal code.
  • Region checks. Some merchant systems restrict cards by issuing country. If a region check blocks you, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirement before trying again.
  • Card type restrictions. If your Adobe order or a payment provider limits card types, confirm the requirement with Adobe first, then check with Coinepay support.

Adobe's general advice for a declined payment is to retry, use another method, or contact your bank. For card-side questions — balance, verification prompts or a frozen card — reach out through Coinepay support or our Telegram channel.

Cancellations and refunds

Adobe's North American enterprise general terms describe a fixed licence term and termination after an uncured material breach with 30 days' notice, plus limited refunds of unused prepaid fees only for specified warranty or infringement remedies. There is no confirmed self-service cancellation or automatic 14-day refund for a Commerce licence — the actual sales order and applicable terms govern this, so review them and ask your Adobe contact. Note that shopper refunds, which a merchant issues via a credit memo in Commerce Admin, are a completely separate matter from your Commerce licence.

Manage everything from Coinepay

Your Coinepay virtual card, balance and transaction history are available 24/7 in the app and dashboard. For businesses paying several services, you can issue separate virtual cards and set custom spending limits per card to keep budgets clear. Learn more on the Coinepay site.

FAQ

Can I pay Adobe directly for an Adobe Commerce licence with a Coinepay card?

It depends on your sales order. Adobe Commerce is typically purchased by requesting pricing and arranging a sales order, and the accepted payment methods are set by that order or by your partner. Confirm with your Adobe contact whether a card is accepted, then check with Coinepay support that your card meets any requirement.

Why was my card declined at checkout?

Common causes map to Adobe's reason codes: 5120 (insufficient funds), 5650 (3-D Secure needed), 9500 (suspected fraud) and INSTRUMENT_DECLINED (method declined). Check your balance, complete the verification prompt in the Coinepay app, and make sure your billing address matches your Coinepay account exactly.

Does Adobe Commerce publish its subscription prices?

No. At the time of writing (October 2026), Adobe shows a 'Get pricing' option for its Commerce offerings rather than fixed public prices, and the agreed amount is set in your sales order. Confirm current pricing on Adobe's official pricing page at business.adobe.com.

What is the difference between paying Adobe and storefront payment settings?

Paying Adobe for your licence is handled under your sales order, with billing details in Admin Console → Account. Storefront settings in Commerce Admin → Sales → Payment Services → Settings control how your shoppers pay you, not how you pay Adobe.

Is Adobe Commerce available everywhere?

Adobe Commerce on Cloud is unavailable in China and Russia, where only on-premises deployments are supported, and Payment Services availability varies by country. Use your real business details and follow Adobe's terms rather than trying to bypass any regional restriction.
