Teachable is an online education platform where creators build and sell courses, coaching and digital downloads, and where students buy those products. Whether you are a school owner paying for a monthly plan or a student checking out a course, you can pay with a Coinepay virtual card that gives you an instant card number, expiry date and CVV. This guide walks through what you need, the sign-up and checkout flow, and how to troubleshoot a declined card.
What you need before you start
A Coinepay virtual card works like any other card number online, but you still have to prepare a few things first:
- A Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. You can register here and finish verification before creating a card. Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions.
- A virtual card created in the Coinepay app (iOS or Google Play) or the web dashboard, with your card number, expiry and CVV visible.
- Enough balance on the card to cover the charge plus any applicable processing. Check available funds and top up in the Coinepay app if needed.
- Your real billing address exactly as it appears on your Coinepay profile. Teachable (via Stripe) may check it against the card.
Services related to virtual assets are not available to residents of mainland China, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction. Always use your real identity and real billing details.
Which Teachable payment are you making?
There are two very different payments on Teachable, and they use different billing screens:
- A school plan — the subscription a creator pays to run their school (Starter, Builder, Growth or Custom).
- A course or product — what a student pays at a creator's checkout, usually processed by Teachable Payments on a Stripe-hosted panel.
The card requirements and accepted networks differ, so follow the matching section below.
Paying for a Teachable school plan
At the time of writing (October 2026), Teachable's public pricing page lists Starter, Builder, Growth and Custom plans in US dollars. Starter was shown at $39/month (or $29/month billed annually), Builder at $89 ($69 annual) and Growth at $189 ($139 annual); Custom requires a sales quote. Local-currency prices for other regions are not confirmed, so check the official Teachable pricing page for the figure that applies to you before you commit. Note that Starter carries a 7.5% sales transaction fee, while Builder and Growth show 0% platform transaction fees (separate from payment-processing fees).
- On the Teachable pricing page, choose your plan and its Try for free option to begin. The pricing page offers a seven-day trial; whether a card is required to start it is not confirmed, so have your Coinepay card ready.
- Create your school account with your real email and details.
- Open your school admin area and go to Settings > Billing. The primary owner manages invoices, payment methods, addresses and subscription details here.
- Add your Coinepay card as the payment method. School-plan charges accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover credit/debit cards, plus ACH debit from US bank accounts. PayPal is not accepted for school-plan subscriptions.
- Enter the card number, expiry, CVV and the billing address that matches your Coinepay profile, then confirm.
If your card network needs to be confirmed against what Teachable accepts, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy.
Setting up a gateway to sell (creators)
Paying for the plan lets you build your school, but to actually collect money from students you must set up a payment gateway under Sales > Payment Settings, then complete Stripe onboarding for Teachable Payments or connect a Custom Payment Gateway. Teachable Payments lists creator eligibility in 41 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia and several European countries; the Custom Payment Gateway is described as available in other countries but needs a connected Stripe account, whose own country eligibility is limited. This is separate from paying your own plan with a Coinepay card.
Paying for a course as a student
If you are buying a course, coaching or a download, the creator's checkout usually runs on Teachable Payments:
- Select the product and its price (offers may be free, one-time, installment-plan or subscription).
- Enter your email on the Stripe-hosted payment panel.
- Pay with your Coinepay card. Student checkout on Teachable Payments enables cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay and Link by default; the school may enable additional methods at Sales > Payment Settings > Payment Methods. Available options depend on school location, your location, currency and settings.
- Complete any additional verification prompted by your card, then finish. Your account setup follows the purchase.
For recurring products, you manage cards, invoices and cancellations in the Stripe Customer Portal, reached through a billing email or the Subscriptions & Payment Plans option in your school profile.
Troubleshooting a declined card
Teachable's help articles document decline reasons including insufficient funds, an incorrect number, expiry or security code, an expired card, an exceeded spending limit, an unspecified issuer decline, and fraud flagging; additional authentication can also fail. You may see "Your card was declined" or, in older checkouts, "Status code 59: Your payment could not be processed due to an authorization error" (whether code 59 appears in the newer Stripe checkout is not confirmed). Work through these causes:
| Cause | What to do |
|---|---|
| Insufficient balance | Check your available funds in the Coinepay app and top up to cover the charge plus any processing fee, then retry. |
| Billing address mismatch | Re-enter the address exactly as shown on your Coinepay profile. A mismatch is a common cause of an authorization error. |
| Wrong card details | Confirm the card number, expiry and CVV character by character from the Coinepay app. |
| 3-D Secure / extra authentication | Complete any confirmation step Coinepay sends. If you miss it, the payment fails and you must restart checkout. |
| Spending limit exceeded | If you set a per-card limit (for example on an ad-account card), raise it in the Coinepay app or use a different card. |
| Merchant region checks | Teachable and Stripe assess location, currency and card eligibility. Do not use VPNs or false details to bypass checks. |
| Issuer decline / fraud flag | Wait a few minutes and retry; if it persists, contact Coinepay support to check whether the transaction was blocked on the card side. |
If the charge still fails after these steps, reach out through Coinepay support or Telegram with the date, amount and any error message so the team can help.
Cancellations and refunds
A primary owner cancels a school plan through Settings > Billing > Manage Plan > Cancel Plan; it takes effect at the end of the billing cycle and does not automatically cancel your students' subscriptions. A written school-plan refund request must be made within 30 days of initially signing up for a paid plan. For students, Teachable's native gateways apply a standard 14-day course refund window from purchase (coaching and digital-download policies are set by the creator), and a student subscription canceled in the Stripe Customer Portal keeps access through the paid period. Review Teachable's terms of use and the relevant help article for the exact policy that applies to you.
Keeping your card organized
Because Coinepay lets you issue more than one virtual card and set custom spending limits, you can keep a dedicated card for your Teachable subscription separate from other services. That makes it easy to track the recurring charge, cap spending and spot any unexpected billing from your Coinepay dashboard, which is available 24/7.

FAQ
Does Teachable accept virtual cards?
Teachable processes card payments through Stripe and, for school plans, accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. A Coinepay virtual card provides a standard card number, expiry and CVV that you enter at checkout. If you need to confirm your card network meets a requirement, contact Coinepay support before you buy.
Can I pay for my Teachable school plan with PayPal instead?
No. According to Teachable's billing help, school-plan subscriptions accept Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover cards and ACH debit from US bank accounts, but PayPal is not accepted for school-plan charges.
Why was my card declined at Teachable checkout?
Common reasons include insufficient balance, an incorrect number, expiry or CVV, an expired card, an exceeded spending limit, a billing address mismatch, a failed 3-D Secure step, or an issuer fraud flag. Check each in the Coinepay app, correct it and retry, or contact Coinepay support if it persists.
