You can use Coinepay Global Remittance to send money from the United States to a recipient in China. Before starting, confirm how the recipient wants to receive the money: into a bank account, through a mobile wallet, or at a cash pickup location if that option appears for your transfer. The details you need depend on the payout route. This guide explains what to collect, how to review the transfer before confirming it, and what to do if it is delayed.

What you need before you start

Register for a Coinepay account and complete identity verification. You can manage transfers through the Coinepay self-service dashboard or mobile app. If you have not registered, create an account first. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and applicable local regulations; Coinepay may request documents explaining the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds.

Ask the recipient for their full legal name, exactly as it appears on their bank or wallet account and identification. Also confirm their preferred payout method and the corresponding details below. Use accurate information about yourself and the recipient; a nickname, an incomplete name or an account belonging to someone else can complicate verification.

China’s local currency is the Chinese yuan, also called renminbi or RMB, with the currency code CNY. Check the currencies offered for your transfer in Coinepay before you confirm. If the recipient needs CNY, verify the selected receiving currency rather than assuming that a payment initiated in US dollars will arrive in yuan.

Choose a payout method and collect the right details

Coinepay supports bank deposit, mobile wallet and cash pickup as remittance payout methods. The choices and fields available for a particular US-to-China transfer are shown when you set it up. Ask the recipient to confirm that their bank account, wallet or pickup location can receive the selected payout. Do not substitute details from one method for another.

Payout methodWhat to ask the recipient forWhat to check
Bank depositThe name on the account, account number, receiving bank name, and any branch or recipient contact details requested in the transfer form. For an international bank route, the bank’s SWIFT/BIC may be needed. An RMB route may ask for a CNAPS bank or branch code.Follow the receiving bank’s instructions and the fields Coinepay displays. A CNAPS code identifies a bank or branch; it does not replace the account number.
Mobile walletThe recipient’s legal name and the identifier required for the wallet route displayed, such as a registered phone number, email address or wallet ID.Alipay and Weixin/WeChat Pay are common China wallet options. Check which, if either, appears for this transfer and have the recipient confirm that the identifier belongs to their eligible wallet.
Cash pickupThe recipient’s legal name and any location or contact details requested during setup.Choose cash pickup only if Coinepay offers it for the destination and recipient. After sending, check the pickup instructions and tell the recipient what identification and transfer information those instructions require.

China bank account numbers are not IBANs

China does not use an IBAN format. If you are collecting details for a Chinese bank deposit, ask the recipient or their bank for the account information appropriate to that route; do not construct an IBAN from the account number. For a conventional international bank transfer, the recipient may need to provide their bank’s SWIFT/BIC. For some RMB payments, a CNAPS code may also be requested. Whether either code is required depends on the payout instructions shown for your transfer.

Some services use an eligible UnionPay-linked card number for a China deposit rather than standard bank-account instructions. If Coinepay presents a card-based deposit option, enter only the details requested for that option and ask the recipient to confirm the card is eligible. Do not put a card number into a bank-account field or assume that every Chinese account supports card-based deposits. Likewise, a US routing number is not a replacement for Chinese receiving-bank details.

Wallet and cash pickup preparations

Wallet instructions differ from bank-wire instructions. Depending on the route, an Alipay identifier may be a registered phone number or email address, while a WeChat wallet route may request a registered mobile number or another wallet identifier. The recipient should check their own wallet details and complete any verification or account-linking steps required by the payout provider. Use the fields and recipient instructions shown in Coinepay rather than assuming that a bank account number is sufficient for a wallet payout.

For cash pickup, availability depends on the option presented when you create the transfer. The recipient should review the pickup instructions before visiting a location, bring acceptable identification matching the name you entered, and have any required transfer reference. A cash pickup option offered by another provider does not establish that a particular Coinepay transfer can use the same location.

How to send money from the US to China

  1. Sign in and start a transfer. Open Coinepay Global Remittance in the dashboard or mobile app. Complete any outstanding identity-verification requests before proceeding.
  2. Select the destination and currencies. Choose China as the recipient’s destination, enter the amount, and review the sending and receiving currencies available for this transfer. Select CNY if that is the receiving currency the recipient needs and the option is available.
  3. Choose the payout method. Select the bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup option shown for your recipient. Collect the exact details requested for that route before filling out the form.
  4. Enter and verify recipient information. Compare the legal name, account or wallet identifier, and any bank codes with details supplied directly by the recipient. Check every digit and make sure the selected payout method matches the information entered.
  5. Review the transfer. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm. Review those figures, the receiving amount shown, recipient details, currency and payout method. Provide an accurate payment purpose and any requested supporting information.
  6. Confirm and track. Submit the transfer only after the review is correct. Follow its status in Coinepay’s dashboard or app, and respond if additional information is requested.

Keep the transfer details available so you can answer questions from Coinepay or the recipient. If the recipient needs to complete a wallet step or respond to their bank, let them know promptly and have them follow the instructions from their own provider.

What the recipient in China may need to do

Receiving a cross-border payment can involve checks by the receiving bank, wallet provider or payout partner. The recipient may need to verify their identity, confirm the purpose of the payment, or provide supporting documents before the funds can be credited or converted. Requirements can differ for a personal transfer and a business-related payment. Ask the recipient to use truthful transaction information and respond directly to requests from their provider.

China’s foreign-exchange settlement rules and reporting requirements may affect what the recipient must document. A reporting exemption or a foreign-exchange convenience allowance should not be treated as a universal transfer limit or a way to bypass review. If the recipient is unsure what applies to their circumstances, they should ask their receiving bank or wallet provider before you send.

Troubleshooting a delayed or returned transfer

  • Wrong or mismatched recipient details: Recheck the legal name, account number or wallet identifier, bank name and any requested codes against information from the recipient. A name and account-number mismatch can prevent crediting. If you have already confirmed the transfer, contact Coinepay support with the transfer reference; do not assume you can edit a transfer already in progress.
  • Compliance review: Check for requests in your account and ask the recipient to check with their receiving provider. Be ready to provide documents about the transaction purpose or source of funds if requested. Screening and local rules may affect whether the transfer can proceed.
  • No payout yet: Check the transfer status first. For a bank deposit, ask the recipient whether their bank is waiting for a purpose confirmation or other documents. For a wallet payout, check whether the recipient needs to verify the wallet or link an eligible account. For cash pickup, confirm the recipient has the instructions for the selected location.
  • Returned transfer: Review the reason shown in the transfer status and contact support if it is unclear. Incorrect details, an ineligible receiving account or an unanswered request from a receiving provider may prevent payout. Correct the underlying issue before considering a new transfer.

Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions, and customers and counterparties are screened against sanctions lists. Never ask another person to receive a transfer on someone’s behalf to avoid a check. If you need help interpreting a status or confirming which China payout details to enter, contact Coinepay support before submitting another transfer.

FAQ

Do I need an IBAN to send money to a bank account in China?

No. China does not use an IBAN format. Use the recipient bank’s account instructions and enter any SWIFT/BIC or CNAPS code requested for the payout route.

Can the recipient receive money through Alipay or Weixin/WeChat Pay?

These are common wallet options for China, but check which payout methods Coinepay displays for your transfer. The recipient must provide the identifier and complete any steps required for the selected wallet.

When can I see the exchange rate and fees?

Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm the transfer. Review the receiving amount and all recipient details at the same time.

What should I do if my transfer is delayed?

Check its status in Coinepay, verify the recipient details, and look for any document or purpose-confirmation requests. Contact Coinepay support if the reason is unclear.
