Buying an item on Etsy is different from paying for an Etsy subscription. This guide shows how to prepare a Coinepay virtual card for ordinary checkout, where to find Etsy’s seller and buyer membership billing settings, and what to check if a payment fails. Card acceptance depends on the payment options and checks presented for your transaction.
Before you pay: choose the right Etsy flow
Etsy offers ordinary marketplace purchases, seller services and an invite-only buyer membership. They do not all use the same checkout process.
- Marketplace purchase: Add an item to your cart, review shipping and payment information, then select Place your order. Available payment methods can vary by seller, buyer and location.
- Etsy Plus: This is a seller subscription, separate from Etsy Standard. Etsy deducts its recurring fee from the seller’s payment-account balance; adding a billing card does not mean each Plus renewal will be charged directly to that card.
- Pattern: This is an optional seller website service, not an Etsy Plus tier. It requires an Etsy Payments-enabled shop and has its own trial and billing settings.
- Etsy Insider: This buyer membership is limited to invited, eligible US residents aged 18 or older who have an active Etsy account. The payment method supplied at enrollment is charged on renewal.
At the time of writing (October 2026), Etsy lists Plus at US$10 per month plus applicable tax, with 15 listing credits and US$5 in Etsy Ads credit per subscription cycle. Pattern is listed at US$15 per month after a 30-day trial, plus applicable tax and any separately purchased domain services; its first paid month is prorated. Etsy lists Insider Seasonal at US$24 per three months and Annual at US$72 per year, plus applicable tax. Check Etsy’s official fees, Pattern information or Insider enrollment page for current terms and the amount shown to you. Etsy converts Plus and Pattern fees quoted in USD to the seller’s payment-account currency at the market rate when charged; ordinary seller fees can also apply.
What you need before using a Coinepay virtual card
- Set up Coinepay: Register for Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Manage your account from the self-service dashboard or the iOS app or Android app.
- Get your card details: Coinepay issues a virtual card with an instant card number, expiry date and CVV. Check your available funds in Coinepay before attempting a payment, including any displayed tax or shipping charge.
- Use your real details: Have the billing details associated with your card and, for a physical Etsy order, a valid delivery address ready. Enter them accurately; do not substitute an address to bypass a regional or payment restriction.
- Check eligibility: For seller services, use your own Etsy shop and check its available settings. For Insider, only proceed if Etsy has invited you and you meet its stated requirements. Availability of a payment option at marketplace checkout does not establish that it can be used for every subscription.
If you need to confirm card-specific details or whether your card meets a requirement shown by Etsy, contact Coinepay support before buying. Do not assume a card that works for one Etsy order will work for another seller or billing flow.
How to pay for an Etsy item
- Choose the listing: On Etsy, review the item, variations, delivery destination, shipping costs and the seller’s terms. Add the item to your cart.
- Review the cart: Confirm the item and total. If you are buying from multiple shops, note that a problem with one part of the checkout can prevent an order from going through.
- Enter payment details: If card payment is offered for your checkout, enter your Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV. Supply your real billing details and check the shipping information separately.
- Complete any verification: Follow any authentication prompt presented during payment. Do not repeatedly submit the order while a verification step is unfinished.
- Place the order: Review the final amount and select Place your order. Check Etsy’s order status rather than assuming an attempted payment created a completed purchase.
Etsy lists several marketplace payment methods, including cards, Etsy gift cards or credits, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Klarna, iDEAL and bank-account payments where applicable. The methods available to you depend on the seller and location. If the listing does not offer a usable card-payment option, choose an eligible method shown by Etsy or ask Etsy for help; Coinepay cannot make an unavailable checkout option appear.
How to set up and manage Etsy subscription billing
Etsy Plus: upgrade through your shop
Go to Etsy.com and open Shop Manager → Settings → Your subscription. Select Upgrade under Etsy Plus, review the terms and select Confirm. The recurring Plus fee is deducted from your seller payment-account balance. To review the billing card on file for your shop, open Shop Manager → Finances → Payment settings → Billing. Follow Etsy’s prompts if a billing card is required or needs updating, but do not treat that card as a direct Plus checkout method.
To cancel Plus, return to Shop Manager → Settings → Your subscription. Etsy says access continues through the current cycle, after which the shop returns to Etsy Standard. Etsy states that service fees, including prepaid fees, are non-refundable.
Pattern: start a separate seller website trial
For an eligible shop, open Shop Manager → Add channels → Pattern → Get started. You can preview Pattern without starting a paid subscription. After the billing-information prompt, Etsy’s trial flow asks you to select Start free trial twice to begin the 30-day trial. Read each screen before confirming. You can find the Pattern bill at Shop Manager → Sales Channels → Pattern → Settings → Billing.
To stop the service, go to Pattern dashboard → Settings → Cancel your Pattern site. Canceling during the trial avoids the Pattern subscription charge. If you cancel during a paid month, Etsy says you remain responsible for that month’s full fee.
Etsy Insider: enroll only if invited
If Etsy invites you and you meet its US residence, age and account requirements, choose the offered Insider membership and review the price and payment method displayed at enrollment. Benefits begin after enrollment and payment; the supplied method is charged at renewal. To check your method and renewal date, go to Your account → Etsy Insider member → Manage membership. A Coinepay card can only be used if Etsy offers and accepts it in your enrollment flow.
You can turn off renewal through Manage membership, follow your confirmation-email instructions or contact Etsy support. Benefits continue through the paid period. Etsy says purchases and renewals are non-refundable, including prorated refunds, unless the law requires otherwise. If a renewal payment fails, Etsy says it will notify you and allow five days to update the payment method before marking the membership canceled.
What to check when Etsy declines your card
If Etsy displays “There was a problem with your order. Please try again, if you continue to have problems, please contact support.”, first verify your billing and shipping details. If they are correct and the error continues, contact Etsy support. The message does not, by itself, identify which party declined the payment.
- Insufficient available funds: Compare your available Coinepay funds with the complete amount Etsy displays, including shipping and applicable tax. Check your Coinepay dashboard or app before trying again.
- Card or billing-detail mismatch: Recheck the number, expiry date and CVV, and correct outdated or mistyped information. Make sure the billing details you provide are accurate and consistent with those associated with your card.
- Authentication or 3-D Secure problem: If Etsy or a payment provider presents a security step, complete it as instructed. Etsy notes that failed card authentication in the European Economic Area can stop checkout. If a prompt does not arrive or fails, check the status in your payment flow and contact Coinepay support for card-side help.
- Security or spending checks: Etsy identifies issuer security blocks and daily spending limits as possible decline causes. Check any applicable information in Coinepay and ask support to review a card-side decline; do not keep retrying without resolving the cause.
- Seller or region restrictions: A shop may temporarily be unable to accept orders, or one part of a multi-shop cart may fail. Payment methods and eligibility can also vary by location. Check the listing and your real account details, try purchasing eligible items separately if appropriate, or contact Etsy support. Do not use a false address to get around a restriction.
Etsy also identifies unregistered prepaid cards as a possible checkout problem and does not allow certain prepaid-card or PayPal payments for Etsy gift-card purchases. If Etsy presents a card-type requirement that matters to your purchase, contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets it before you buy. For a shop-side order problem or an Insider enrollment issue, contact Etsy through its own support options.

FAQ
Can I pay the Etsy Plus monthly fee directly with my Coinepay card?
Etsy deducts Plus fees from the seller payment-account balance. You can review your shop’s billing card under Shop Manager → Finances → Payment settings → Billing, but adding a card is not a direct Plus checkout.
Is Pattern included in Etsy Plus?
No. Pattern is a separate seller website service with its own trial, subscription and billing settings.
Why did Etsy decline my virtual card?
Check available funds, card and billing details, and any authentication prompt. Security checks, a seller-side issue or regional payment availability may also affect checkout.
Can anyone subscribe to Etsy Insider?
No. Etsy Insider requires an invitation, US residence, age 18 or older, and an active Etsy account.
