If you are in Malaysia and need to send money to family, friends or a supplier in Nepal, Coinepay Global Remittance lets you do it from the mobile app or the 24/7 self-service dashboard. Coinepay supports transfers to Nepal, with payouts in Nepalese rupee (NPR), and shows you the exchange rate and fees clearly before you confirm. This guide explains what you need, how to choose a payout method, and what to do if something goes wrong.

Before you start

To send a cross-border transfer with Coinepay you must have a registered account with completed identity verification (KYC). If you have not signed up yet, you can create an account and finish verification first, then download the app from the App Store or Google Play.

All transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Because Malaysia applies customer-due-diligence rules and Nepal Rastra Bank requires licensed remittance companies to confirm that incoming funds come from a legitimate source, Coinepay may ask you for extra information such as the purpose of the transfer, your relationship to the recipient, or your source of funds. Larger transfers are more likely to prompt these questions, so have the details ready to avoid delays. Always use your real identity and real billing details.

What the sender needs

Whatever payout method you choose, start with the recipient's full legal name exactly as it appears on their bank or wallet records. A name mismatch is one of the most common reasons a payout is held. You will also usually be asked for the recipient's contact phone number and the purpose of the transfer.

The rest of the details depend on the payout method:

Bank account deposit

Direct deposit to a qualifying Nepalese bank account is available from Malaysia. For a bank payout you typically need:

  • The recipient's full account name
  • The bank name and branch
  • The account number

Account-number length in Nepal varies by bank. One Nepal payout provider lists account numbers of 9 to 20 digits, and Rastriya Banijya Bank, for example, specifies a 16-digit beneficiary account number along with the beneficiary's address and a reachable phone number for inward transfers. Do not assume one length works for every bank; copy the number exactly as the recipient's bank states it.

If you are sending a direct international bank wire, ask the receiving bank for its own SWIFT/BIC code and any intermediary-bank instructions. Rastriya Banijya Bank, for instance, publishes RBBANPKA for its own accounts. Note that Nepal has no national IBAN format in SWIFT's September 2026 registry, so do not try to construct a Nepalese IBAN; use the bank's plain account number instead. Nepal also does not use an IFSC, CLABE or US-style routing number for these payouts, so any separate branch or bank-code field you see is specific to the payout partner.

Mobile wallets

Nepal's main remittance-enabled wallets include eSewa and Khalti (powered by IME). For a wallet deposit:

  • eSewa: funds are credited using the recipient's eSewa-registered mobile number, so confirm that number is correct and active.
  • Khalti: the recipient needs a KYC-verified wallet, and the receive process relies on a control number, the sender country and the exact NPR amount matching.

Wallet receipts are subject to Nepal Rastra Bank daily and monthly transaction limits, so very large amounts may be better sent to a bank account. Which wallets appear as options depends on availability at the time of your transfer.

Cash pickup

Cash collection at a participating agent location in Nepal is another available method. The recipient collects in NPR and should bring valid government-issued identification matching the name on the transfer, plus any reference or control number the app provides. Agent opening hours and local cash availability can affect when they can collect.

Step-by-step: sending the transfer

  1. Open Coinepay and start a transfer. In the app or dashboard, go to Global Remittance and choose to send money.
  2. Choose the destination and currency. Select Nepal as the destination. You pay in MYR and the recipient is paid in NPR.
  3. Select the payout method. Pick bank deposit, a mobile wallet (such as eSewa or Khalti) or cash pickup, based on what suits your recipient.
  4. Enter the recipient's details. Type the recipient's full legal name and the payout details for your chosen method exactly as provided. Double-check every digit of the account number, mobile number or control reference.
  5. Review the exchange rate and fees. Coinepay shows the rate and fees clearly before you confirm. Check the amount the recipient will receive in NPR and the total you will pay.
  6. Confirm. Complete any additional verification or compliance questions if prompted, then confirm the transfer.
  7. Track the status. Every transfer has status tracking in the app. Follow it from submitted through to paid out, and share any reference or control number with your recipient so they can collect or confirm receipt.

Recipient-side considerations

Payouts in Nepal are made in Nepalese rupee. Before the money is released, the receiving bank or wallet may run its own checks. Rastriya Banijya Bank, for example, requires an up-to-date beneficiary KYC record and a stated remittance purpose, and may request supporting documents before crediting an inward transfer. For wallets, the recipient's KYC must be complete. Encourage your recipient to keep their bank or wallet records current so the payout is not held.

Troubleshooting

Wrong recipient details

Incorrect beneficiary details or a name mismatch can cause a Nepalese bank to hold or reject an inward transfer. For wallets, missing KYC, a name mismatch, or an incorrect control number or exact amount can prevent Khalti receipt. If you spot a mistake after sending, contact Coinepay support as soon as possible and track the status in the app.

Compliance review

If your transfer is placed under review, this is part of normal sanctions screening and anti-money-laundering checks on both the Malaysia and Nepal sides. Respond promptly with any requested information, such as the purpose or source of funds, to help the transfer proceed.

Delays

Payout timing can be affected by bank holidays, regulatory checks, action required from the receiver, agent hours and local currency availability. Transfers routed through intermediary banks via SWIFT can also take additional time. Use the status tracker before assuming something is wrong.

Returned transfers

If a bank or agent cannot complete the payout, the funds may be returned. Verify the recipient's details, confirm their KYC is current, and resend with the corrected information. If you need help, reach out through the support page or Telegram.

Stay within the rules

Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions, and all customers and counterparties are screened against sanctions lists. Send only to recipients you know, provide accurate information, and never split a transfer or use a third party to avoid checks. Keeping everything transparent is the fastest way to get your money to Nepal. Learn more about Coinepay services on the main site.

FAQ

What currency will my recipient in Nepal receive?

Payouts in Nepal are made in Nepalese rupee (NPR). You pay in Malaysian ringgit (MYR), and Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm.

Do I need an IBAN to send to a bank account in Nepal?

No. Nepal has no national IBAN format, so you should use the receiving bank's plain account number. For a direct international wire you also need the bank's SWIFT/BIC code and any intermediary-bank instructions.

Can I send to a mobile wallet like eSewa or Khalti?

Yes, where available. eSewa deposits use the recipient's eSewa-registered mobile number, while Khalti requires a KYC-verified wallet and relies on the control number, sender country and exact NPR amount matching.

Why might my transfer be delayed or held?

Common causes include incorrect recipient details, a name mismatch, incomplete recipient KYC, compliance and sanctions checks, bank holidays, agent hours and SWIFT routing through intermediary banks. Track the status in the app and respond to any requests quickly.

What information might Coinepay ask me for?

Because of Malaysian and Nepalese regulations, Coinepay may ask for your identity details, the purpose of the transfer, your relationship to the recipient and your source of funds, especially for larger amounts.
