Coinepay Global Remittance supports transfers from the United Kingdom to Sri Lanka. You can choose a payout method offered for your transfer, review the exchange rate and fees before confirming, and track its status afterward. This guide explains what to prepare for a bank deposit, mobile-wallet payout or cash pickup.
What you need before you start
Register for Coinepay and complete identity verification before sending. In the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard, have the recipient’s full legal name ready exactly as it appears on their bank account, wallet registration or identification document. Ask the recipient to confirm their details rather than relying on an old payment record.
The details you need depend on the payout method:
- Bank deposit: Ask for the recipient’s bank name, branch details and complete account number. A Sri Lankan account number is not an IBAN: Sri Lanka does not use a national IBAN format. Account-number lengths vary by bank; some LKR payout services specify 6–15 digits. Enter the number the recipient’s bank provides, including any leading zeros. If the transfer form requests a bank or branch code, obtain that code from the recipient or their bank. A bank-to-bank transfer may also require the receiving bank’s SWIFT/BIC; do not assume it is needed for every local deposit.
- Mobile wallet: Ask for the recipient’s registered name and the mobile number linked to an eligible, active wallet. eZ Cash is a Sri Lankan wallet associated with Dialog or Airtel numbers, but wallet availability depends on the payout options shown for your transfer. Confirm the wallet and number with the recipient before selecting it.
- Cash pickup: Use the recipient’s legal name as shown on their valid government-issued photo ID. Check the available pickup option and its collection instructions in the transfer flow. The recipient will generally need that ID and the transfer reference when collecting cash.
You may also be asked for the reason for sending and supporting documents, such as information about the purpose or source of funds. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and applicable local regulations. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.
Choose the payout method that suits the recipient
Deposit into a Sri Lankan bank account
A bank deposit suits a recipient who wants money paid directly into their account. Sri Lankan banks use account numbers together with identifying bank and branch information; they do not require a Sri Lankan IBAN. Depending on the route presented, you may be asked for a local bank or branch code, or the receiving bank’s SWIFT/BIC. Follow the fields in Coinepay’s transfer form and confirm any unfamiliar code with the recipient’s bank. Do not substitute a UK sort code or another country’s account identifier.
Ask the recipient to confirm that the account is active and can receive the selected currency. The Sri Lankan rupee (LKR) is Sri Lanka’s local currency. If an LKR payout is available and selected, review the amount the recipient is shown to receive before confirming. Do not assume every inward remittance must be converted to LKR; the appropriate receiving currency and account depend on the available transfer options and the recipient’s bank.
Pay into a mobile wallet
A mobile-wallet payout can be useful if the recipient uses an eligible Sri Lankan wallet instead of a bank account. eZ Cash is one local example; select it only if it appears as an option for this transfer in Coinepay. Other wallet options, if any, will also appear in the transfer flow. The recipient needs an active wallet registered to the mobile number you enter, and their registered details should match the payout information. Ask them to check that their wallet can accept the incoming payment under its own account conditions.
Arrange cash pickup
Cash pickup is an option for a recipient who prefers to collect funds in person, where a pickup location is offered. Enter the recipient’s name as it appears on their valid government-issued photo ID. After the transfer is ready for collection, share the transfer reference and the pickup instructions with the intended recipient through a trusted channel. They should check the listed location’s requirements before visiting. A name mismatch can prevent collection, so verify spelling before you confirm.
How to send the transfer
- Sign in to Coinepay. Open the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app and start a Global Remittance transfer. If you have not registered, create an account and complete the required identity verification first.
- Set the destination and currency. Choose the United Kingdom as the sending country and Sri Lanka as the destination. Select the currency options offered for this route and check the currency in which the recipient is expected to receive funds. LKR is the local currency if you choose an LKR payout.
- Select the available payout method. Choose bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup according to the options shown in the transfer flow and the recipient’s preference. Enter the recipient’s full legal name and the details required for that method. For a bank account, verify the account number, bank and branch information and any requested code; for a wallet, verify the registered mobile number.
- Review before confirming. Check the recipient’s details, payout method and receiving currency. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm the transfer. Review those figures and the displayed recipient amount, then correct any mistakes before proceeding.
- Confirm and track. Submit the transfer only when the information is accurate. Use the transfer’s status tracking in the Coinepay app or dashboard to follow its progress. Keep the transfer reference available if you need help or if the recipient must present it for cash pickup.
Recipient-side checks and special purposes
Before you send, ask whether the recipient’s account or wallet can receive the selected payout. A bank may need to process an incoming payment or ask its customer for information; a wallet may have eligibility or capacity conditions; and a cash-pickup recipient must meet the collection requirements. The information shown in your transfer flow and any instructions from the recipient’s provider should guide your choice.
If the money is for an investment rather than an ordinary personal remittance, check the receiving-account requirements with the recipient and their Sri Lankan bank before sending. Sri Lanka uses an Inward Investment Account for certain permitted inward investment transactions by non-resident investors. Do not assume that a family-remittance account is suitable for that purpose. Give an accurate transfer purpose whenever requested.
Troubleshooting a UK-to-Sri Lanka transfer
- The recipient details are wrong: Do not confirm a transfer you know contains an error. If you have already confirmed it, check its status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. An incorrect name or bank account number can lead to a rejection or return. Whether a change is possible depends on the transfer’s status.
- The transfer is under review: Respond to requests for identity, purpose-of-payment or source-of-funds documents through Coinepay’s official channels. Both sender and recipient may be subject to compliance checks. Do not start another transfer to work around a review.
- The status has not changed: Check whether your sending payment has been received and whether Coinepay has requested information. Currency conversion, receiving-bank processing, weekends and public holidays can also affect progress. Use the tracked status for this transfer rather than assuming a particular arrival time.
- The payout was rejected or returned: Compare the submitted details with the recipient’s bank or wallet records. An inactive wallet, wallet-capacity issue or incorrect bank details may prevent payout. Check the transfer status and contact support for the next step; review any new transfer in full before confirming it.
