You can send money from the United States to El Salvador with Coinepay Global Remittance. The recipient may be able to receive the transfer through a bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup, depending on the options shown for the transfer. This guide explains what to prepare, how to send, and what to check if a payout is delayed.
What you need before sending
Register for a Coinepay account and complete identity verification before starting a transfer. You can manage transfers in the Coinepay mobile app or the 24/7 self-service dashboard. If you have not registered, create an account first.
Ask your recipient for their full legal name exactly as it appears on their bank or wallet account, or on the identification they will use for cash pickup. You will also need the details for your chosen payout method. Collect those directly from the recipient rather than copying information from an older transfer: an account, phone number or pickup preference may have changed.
- For bank deposit: Ask for the recipient’s bank name, account holder’s full legal name and account number or IBAN, according to that bank’s instructions. The bank may also require the recipient’s address, its SWIFT/BIC or other bank details.
- For a mobile wallet: Ask for the name and phone number registered to the recipient’s wallet, plus any other information requested in the Coinepay transfer form. Confirm that the recipient can receive remittances in that wallet.
- For cash pickup: Confirm the recipient’s name as shown on their valid ID and the pickup location or network offered during the transfer. Tell the recipient to check that location’s identification requirements and opening hours.
Use your real identity and accurate recipient information. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay or a payout provider may request documents explaining the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds.
Choose how the recipient will receive money in El Salvador
El Salvador uses the U.S. dollar (USD) as its official currency. Select El Salvador as the destination and review the payout currency displayed for your transfer. Do not assume that sending USD means there will be no currency conversion or other charges: the applicable rate and fees are shown before you confirm.
Bank deposit
Bank deposit sends the payout to an account held by the recipient. El Salvador has a 28-character IBAN format: SV, two check digits, a four-letter bank identifier and a 20-digit account field. However, not every receiving bank asks for an IBAN. For example, BAC El Salvador’s instructions for receiving an international SWIFT transfer call for the account number, recipient’s full name and address, and BAC’s SWIFT/BIC. It also publishes intermediary-bank instructions for incoming USD transfers.
Ask the recipient to obtain the correct incoming-transfer instructions from their own bank. Enter an IBAN if that bank and the Coinepay form call for one; otherwise, use the account number and bank identifiers requested for the selected payout route. A U.S. ABA routing number identifies a U.S. bank, while a CLABE is a Mexican account-number standard. Neither should be substituted for Salvadoran recipient details. If the bank requires a SWIFT/BIC or correspondent-bank information and you are unsure where it belongs, contact Coinepay support before confirming.
The recipient should watch for requests from their bank to confirm an incoming transfer or supply supporting information. BAC El Salvador, for example, asks recipients to confirm additional incoming-transfer information through online banking. Instructions at another bank may differ.
Mobile wallet
A mobile-wallet payout sends money to an eligible wallet rather than directly to a bank account. Choose this method only if a wallet option appears for your transfer to El Salvador and the recipient has an active account that can receive it. Have the recipient verify the registered name and phone number, any applicable wallet requirements and how they will access the funds. Wallet availability can change, so rely on the options displayed when you set up the transfer rather than assuming a particular wallet is supported.
Cash pickup
Cash pickup lets the recipient collect the payout at an available location. Select a pickup option shown for El Salvador, then check the location details before confirming. The recipient will generally need a valid ID matching the name on the transfer and any collection information supplied for that payout. Share collection details privately with the intended recipient. They should confirm the agent’s opening hours and requirements before travelling.
How to send from the United States: step by step
- Sign in to your verified Coinepay account. Open Global Remittance in the app or dashboard and start a new transfer.
- Choose the destination and payout. Set the sending location to the United States and the destination to El Salvador. Enter the amount, select an available payout method, and review the displayed payout currency.
- Enter the recipient’s details. Use their full legal name and the bank, wallet or cash-pickup information requested on screen. Check every digit and spelling against details the recipient has confirmed.
- Review before confirming. Check the recipient, payout method, amount, exchange rate and fees shown in the app. Even if both sides are shown in USD, review the complete transfer summary. If anything is unclear, pause and ask the recipient or Coinepay support.
- Confirm and track. Confirm the transfer only when the details are correct. Then use its status tracking in the Coinepay app or dashboard. Keep the transfer reference available if you need support.
What the recipient should expect
The recipient should be ready to verify their identity if requested by the receiving bank, wallet provider or cash-pickup agent. A bank may ask about the transfer’s origin, destination or source of funds before making an incoming payment available. These checks are part of the receiving process; a transfer status alone does not replace any action the recipient must take with their provider.
Availability and requirements can differ by payout channel and location. For bank deposit, the recipient should check for a notice in their banking app or from their bank. For a wallet payout, they should check the correct registered account. For cash pickup, they should bring the required ID and follow the pickup instructions associated with the transfer. If someone requests information that differs from the instructions shown in Coinepay, verify the request through Coinepay support or the recipient’s provider before sharing sensitive details.
Troubleshooting a transfer to El Salvador
- Wrong recipient or bank details: An incorrect name, account number, IBAN or bank identifier can prevent delivery or lead to a return. Check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. Do not assume a submitted transfer can be edited; ask what options are available.
- Compliance review: Respond to requests for identity information or documents about the purpose or source of funds using the requested channel. The recipient may also need to answer questions from their bank or payout provider. Do not send another transfer to bypass a review.
- Transfer is delayed: Check its tracked status first, then ask the recipient to look for any pending bank confirmation, wallet notification or pickup requirement. Agent hours, identification checks and local processing can also affect a payout. If no action is clear, contact support with the transfer reference.
- Transfer is returned: Ask support for the recorded reason and next steps. For a bank deposit, confirm the receiving bank’s instructions again before starting a new transfer. A receiving bank may return an incoming payment if required recipient confirmation or documents are not supplied.
