Sending money from Japan to mainland China starts with the right recipient details. Coinepay Global Remittance supports transfers on this route, subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. This guide explains how to prepare a transfer, choose an available payout method, review the exchange rate and fees before confirming, and track what happens next.
What you need before you start
Register for a Coinepay account and complete the identity verification requested in the app or self-service dashboard. If you have not registered, you can create an account. Use your real identity and give an accurate reason for the payment. Coinepay may ask for documents concerning the transfer’s purpose or source of funds.
Ask the recipient for their full legal name, written as it appears on the receiving bank account or other payout account. Also confirm how they can receive funds. Mainland China’s local currency is the renminbi, or yuan, with the code CNY. When setting up the transfer, check the destination, the currencies offered and the payout methods actually displayed for your recipient and transaction.
Gather the details for the chosen method before you begin:
- Bank deposit: The recipient’s complete account number, account-holder name, receiving bank name and any branch or routing information requested for that bank.
- Mobile wallet: The recipient’s name and the wallet identifier or other details requested for the particular wallet route. Ask the recipient to confirm that their account can receive the payment.
- Cash pickup: The recipient’s legal name and any additional identifying details requested during setup. The recipient will need to follow the pickup instructions for the location shown.
Do not substitute one type of receiving detail for another. A bank account number, a wallet identifier and cash-pickup information serve different purposes. Check the recipient’s details with them rather than guessing from an old payment record.
How to send the transfer
- Open Global Remittance. Sign in through the Coinepay mobile app or 24/7 self-service dashboard and start a cross-border transfer. If you are new to the service, finish any account and identity-verification steps shown first.
- Choose the destination and currencies. Select China as the destination and enter the amount you want to send from Japan. Check the available sending currency and whether the recipient will be paid in CNY. Follow the options shown for this transfer rather than assuming every currency and payout combination is available.
- Select a payout method. Choose an available bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash-pickup option. Enter the recipient’s full legal name and the details requested for that specific method. Review spelling, account numbers and bank or wallet identifiers carefully.
- Review before confirming. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm a transfer. Check those figures, the amount the recipient is expected to receive, the payout method and every recipient detail. Make sure the payment purpose is accurate and that you can provide supporting information if requested.
- Confirm and track. Confirm only when the review matches your instructions. Then use the transfer’s status tracking in Coinepay to follow its progress. Keep the transfer details available in case the recipient or support needs to identify it.
If a requested payout option does not appear, do not enter its details under a different method. Choose an option the app offers for that transaction, or contact Coinepay support before sending.
Choosing a payout method for China
Bank deposit
For a bank-account payout, ask the recipient for the complete account number exactly as their bank provides it, the account-holder name and the bank’s name. Depending on the transfer route, you may also need the receiving branch, the recipient’s address, a SWIFT/BIC or a Chinese local clearing code such as CNAPS. Use the fields Coinepay requests and verify any routing code against instructions from the recipient’s bank.
Mainland China does not use a national IBAN format. Do not invent an IBAN or replace the Chinese account number with one. If a form or instruction appears to call for an IBAN, check the route with Coinepay support before proceeding. Likewise, do not assume a particular length for a Chinese account number; use the complete number supplied by the bank. The recipient should confirm that the account can receive the selected payout currency and provide any documents their bank requests to process the incoming payment.
Mobile wallet
Alipay and Weixin/WeChat are examples of mobile wallets used for CNY payouts in China. Check the Coinepay transfer flow to see which wallet options, if any, are offered for your specific transfer. Do not use bank-deposit instructions to set up a wallet payout. If a wallet option appears, enter the recipient and wallet details requested on that route, and ask the recipient to check for any identity-verification, account-linking or collection instructions from their wallet provider.
Wallet eligibility and the steps needed to receive funds can differ from bank deposits. Before confirming, make sure the recipient recognizes the selected wallet account and can complete any required steps. If the wallet provider requests further information after you send, the recipient should respond through its normal process.
Cash pickup
If cash pickup is offered for the recipient’s location, choose it during setup and read the pickup instructions displayed for that transaction. The recipient should expect to present a valid identity document matching the full legal name you entered. They may also need a transfer reference or other information specified in the instructions. Tell them to use the designated pickup process rather than visiting a location before pickup is available. If cash pickup is not displayed, check another available payout method or ask Coinepay support about your options.
What the recipient should expect
The recipient may be contacted by their bank, wallet provider or payout location to verify their identity or explain the source and purpose of the payment. For a business payment, supporting records such as a contract or invoice may be relevant. Ask the recipient in advance whether their receiving account is suitable for the currency and type of payment you intend to send.
China’s rules for receiving funds and converting foreign currency can involve declarations or supporting documents, depending on the transaction. A rule about simplified conversion is not, by itself, a blanket cap on receiving money from abroad. The recipient should follow instructions from their receiving institution about any declaration or documentation required in their circumstances. Neither sender nor recipient should change the stated purpose or use someone else’s account to avoid a check.
Troubleshooting a transfer
- Wrong recipient or bank details: Compare the submitted name, account number, bank and routing details with the recipient’s official account information. A mismatch can delay a payment or lead to its return. If you have already confirmed the transfer, contact Coinepay support promptly and provide the transfer details; do not assume an instruction can be changed after submission.
- Compliance review: Watch the transfer status and respond to any request for identity, source-of-funds or payment-purpose documents. Transfers are subject to sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.
- Recipient has not received it: Check the status in Coinepay first. Processing by receiving or intermediary institutions, requests for information, or incomplete collection steps can affect progress. Ask the recipient to check for a message from their bank, wallet provider or pickup service, then contact support if the status needs clarification.
- Returned transfer: A receiving institution or payout provider may reject a payment if details do not match, the account cannot receive the payout, or required information is not supplied. Check the status and any stated reason, verify the recipient’s details, and ask support what to do before starting another transfer.
You can manage and track transfers through the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app, available for iOS and Android. For a question about a specific payment, use its details when you contact support.

FAQ
Do I need an IBAN to send money to a bank account in China?
No. Mainland China does not have a national IBAN format. Use the recipient bank’s account number and any SWIFT/BIC, branch or local routing details requested for your transfer.
Can the recipient get the money through Alipay or Weixin/WeChat?
These are mobile-wallet payout options used in China, but availability depends on the transfer. Check which methods Coinepay displays and follow the requirements for the selected wallet.
When can I see the exchange rate and fees?
Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm the transfer. Review them alongside the recipient details and payout method.
What should I do if I entered the wrong recipient details?
If you have not confirmed, correct them before sending. If you have confirmed, contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer details; a change may not be possible after submission.
Why might my recipient be asked for documents?
Coinepay or the receiving institution may need identity, payment-purpose or source-of-funds information to meet applicable requirements. The recipient should follow the receiving institution’s instructions.
