You can use Coinepay Global Remittance to send money from the United States to Nigeria. Before you begin, ask your recipient how they want to receive the money and collect the details for that payout method. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm, then lets you track the transfer’s status.

What you need before sending

Register for Coinepay and complete the identity verification requested for your account. You can start in the Coinepay registration flow and manage transfers through the self-service dashboard or mobile app. Have the recipient’s full legal name as it appears on their bank account, wallet account or identification document. Ask them to check the spelling themselves rather than relying on an old saved contact.

You will also need the payout details for the method you select. For a Nigerian bank deposit, that commonly means the bank name, a local bank code where requested and the recipient’s 10-digit Nigerian Uniform Bank Account Number, or NUBAN. A mobile-wallet payout may require a wallet provider and the recipient’s registered phone number or wallet identifier. For cash pickup, you will need the recipient’s legal name and the pickup information requested in the transfer flow. Enter your own real identity and billing details as requested.

The local currency is the Nigerian naira (NGN). Check the destination, payout currency and amount shown in Coinepay before proceeding; do not assume that every payout method or currency choice will be available for every transfer.

Choose how your recipient gets the money

Bank deposit

For a local naira deposit, ask the recipient for their account name, bank name and 10-digit NUBAN. If the transfer form asks for a Nigerian bank code, obtain the correct code for their bank instead of guessing. The name and number should match the account the recipient intends to use. A local bank deposit normally does not call for an IBAN: Nigeria has no registered national IBAN format.

A direct international bank wire can have different instructions from a local naira payout. If the selected transfer route asks for wire details, obtain the receiving bank’s SWIFT/BIC, the recipient’s account name and number, and any intermediary-bank instructions directly from that bank. An IBAN appearing in correspondent-bank instructions may identify an overseas intermediary account, not your recipient’s Nigerian account. Likewise, a US routing number in those instructions may belong to a US intermediary bank. Follow the fields for the route you actually selected rather than substituting one type of bank identifier for another.

Mobile wallet

Check the Coinepay transfer flow for a mobile-wallet payout option and the providers available for this particular US-to-Nigeria transfer. Wallet availability and required details can depend on the selected provider and current local rules. Ask your recipient which wallet they use, whether it can receive the offered payout, and which phone number or wallet identifier is registered to their account. Confirm that the account name matches their legal name before you enter it. Do not select a wallet simply because you recognize its brand; choose a provider listed for the transfer and follow the details requested on screen.

Cash pickup

If cash pickup is offered for your transfer, select an available pickup option and enter the recipient’s name exactly as it appears on their identification. Tell the recipient to check the pickup location’s instructions and opening arrangements before traveling. They should be prepared to present government-issued identification and any transfer reference or pickup information shown after you send. Nigerian cash-payout rules recognize documents including an international passport, driver’s licence, national identity card and INEC permanent voter’s card; the pickup provider may have its own verification requirements. Cash availability can also depend on applicable local payout rules, so use the options and instructions displayed for your transfer.

How to send money to Nigeria with Coinepay

  1. Sign in to your verified account. Open the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app. If prompted for identity information or supporting documents, complete those steps using accurate details before continuing.
  2. Set up the transfer. Choose the United States as the sending country and Nigeria as the destination. Enter the amount and select an available currency and payout method. Check that the recipient will receive the currency and method you intend.
  3. Add the recipient. Enter their full legal name and the details requested for bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup. For a bank payout, recheck every digit of the account number and any bank code. For a wallet, verify the registered identifier. For pickup, confirm the recipient’s name against their ID.
  4. Review before confirming. Coinepay displays the exchange rate and fees before you confirm a transfer. Read the summary, including the amount, payout currency, recipient details and delivery method. If anything is wrong, go back and correct it before submitting.
  5. Confirm and track. Confirm the transfer only after the summary is correct. Then use Coinepay’s transfer status tracking in the dashboard or app to follow its progress. Share any pickup instructions or reference with the intended recipient through a secure channel when needed.

Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may request documents explaining the purpose of a transfer or the source of funds. Respond through the requested channel with genuine, consistent information; a request for review does not by itself mean the transfer has been completed or rejected.

What the recipient should check in Nigeria

For a bank deposit, the recipient should monitor the account named in the transfer and ask their bank about a credit they cannot identify. For a wallet payout, they should check the account associated with the exact provider and identifier entered, as well as any provider notification or account activity. For cash pickup, they should follow the pickup instructions and bring acceptable identification that matches the transfer name.

Inbound remittances handled under Nigerian international money transfer operator rules are generally paid in naira, subject to the rules for the particular payout. Other bank-wire arrangements can follow different instructions. That is why the recipient should rely on the payout currency and method shown in the transfer summary, rather than assuming that a bank account, wallet or pickup counter will receive the same type of payment. The receiving institution or provider may also need to verify the recipient before making funds available.

Troubleshooting a transfer

The recipient details are wrong

Check the transfer status first. If you spot a misspelled legal name, incorrect NUBAN, wrong bank code or wallet identifier, contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. Do not assume you can edit a transfer after confirmation or that a receiving institution will correct it. Incorrect account details can lead to a failed or returned payout.

The transfer is under review or taking longer than expected

Look for a status update or a request for documents in your Coinepay account. Identity and compliance checks, an unavailable payout provider, bank processing, weekends, currency conversion or confirmation of an interbank payout can affect progress. Provide any requested information accurately. If the status is unclear, ask support to review the specific transfer rather than sending another payment to the same recipient.

The transfer is returned

Use status tracking to see whether the transfer has been marked returned, and contact support for the next steps. A return can involve incorrect recipient information or an inability to complete the selected payout. Before starting a replacement transfer, confirm the recipient’s details and the available payout method again. For questions about what the recipient’s bank or pickup provider requires, ask that institution directly.

FAQ

Does a Nigerian recipient need an IBAN?

Not for a standard Nigerian local bank account. A local naira deposit commonly uses the recipient’s name, bank details and 10-digit NUBAN. Follow any additional fields shown for your selected transfer.

Can my recipient collect cash in Nigeria?

Choose cash pickup if it is offered for your transfer. The recipient should follow the displayed pickup instructions and bring government-issued identification matching their legal name.

What should I do if I entered the wrong Nigerian account number?

Check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. Do not assume confirmed transfer details can be changed.

Where can I see the exchange rate and transfer fees?

Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees in the transfer review before you confirm. Check the payout currency and recipient details there too.
