You can try to pay for a National Geographic magazine subscription using a Coinepay virtual card at National Geographic’s direct checkout. This guide covers the offers displayed for the U.S. and Canada, what to prepare before paying, and what to check if your card is declined. The checkout lists a credit-card payment option, but acceptance of a particular virtual card is not guaranteed.

Check the plan and your eligibility first

National Geographic’s direct magazine checkout displays two plan names: Nat Geo Digital and Nat Geo Digital + Print. Digital has three-month and one-year introductory offers. Digital + Print has a one-year offer that includes 12 monthly print issues. The displayed direct offers are marked U.S. and Canada only. If you live elsewhere, use National Geographic’s international ordering or service channels rather than entering a U.S. or Canadian address that is not yours. Availability and pricing for other markets may differ.

The following prices were displayed at the time of writing (October 2026). They are direct-checkout offers, not prices promised by other sellers. Check National Geographic’s official subscription checkout for the current amount and terms before paying.

OfferU.S. price displayedCanada price displayed
Nat Geo Digital, three monthsUSD $3 for three months; then currently USD $49/yearUSD $3 for three months; stated renewal rate USD $49/year
Nat Geo Digital, one yearUSD $39 for the first year; then currently USD $49/yearUSD $39 for the first year; stated renewal rate USD $49/year
Nat Geo Digital + Print, one yearUSD $79 for the first year; then currently USD $89/yearUSD $89 for the first year; stated renewal rate USD $99/year

Applicable sales tax is additional to the displayed U.S. prices. The displayed Canadian prices are in U.S. funds and include applicable taxes. Review the final checkout amount rather than relying on the introductory price alone: the subscription enrolls in automatic renewal. An introductory promotion or included item, such as the Centennial tote shown with the Digital + Print offer at the time of writing, may change.

What you need before checkout

  • An eligible subscription location: The direct offers covered here are for U.S. and Canadian customers. For Digital + Print, provide a real shipping address where you can receive the issues.
  • A Coinepay account and card: Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Coinepay provides a virtual card number, expiry date and CVV, which you can view in its app or self-service dashboard.
  • Enough available funds: Check the amount due at National Geographic’s checkout, including any applicable tax, against the funds available for your card. Allow for the subscription’s later renewal charge if you intend to keep it.
  • Your real account details: Have an email address you can access and your genuine billing and, where applicable, shipping details ready. The billing information you enter should match the information associated with your payment method.

National Geographic’s checkout lists credit card, PayPal and Apple Pay as payment choices. The card-entry option is labeled “Credit Card”; that label does not establish that every virtual card can be used. If you need to confirm whether your Coinepay card meets the checkout’s payment requirements before buying, contact Coinepay support.

How to subscribe and pay

  1. Open National Geographic’s official magazine subscription checkout. Confirm that you are viewing an offer available for your actual location.
  2. Choose Nat Geo Digital or Nat Geo Digital + Print. If you choose Digital, select the displayed three-month or one-year introductory term. Read the renewal terms alongside the introductory offer.
  3. Choose the checkout’s Credit Card payment option if you want to attempt payment with your Coinepay virtual card. Do not select PayPal or Apple Pay unless you intend to use that payment method under its own terms.
  4. Open the Coinepay app or dashboard and enter your virtual card number, expiry date and CVV into the corresponding checkout fields. Enter your real email, billing details and any requested shipping details.
  5. Review the amount due, tax treatment, delivery details and automatic-renewal terms. Correct mistakes before submitting.
  6. Click “Agree & Subscribe” only when you are ready to place the order. National Geographic says this charges the introductory offer and enrolls the subscription in automatic renewal.
  7. Keep the confirmation and subscription account number. For digital access to National Geographic’s website and archive, use a MyDisney login and link your subscription using that account number.

If the checkout does not offer you the plan or location you expected, stop and check National Geographic’s official ordering information. A virtual card does not change a merchant’s geographic availability rules.

What to do if your card is declined

Do not repeatedly submit the same details without checking the cause. National Geographic identifies insufficient funds and expired payment details as possible reasons an authorization can fail. Billing mismatches, an incomplete security step or merchant region checks are also useful things to investigate, but they are not confirmed National Geographic error messages.

Insufficient balance or expired details

Compare your card’s available funds with the final checkout total, not just the advertised introductory price. Check the card’s expiry date and re-enter its number and CVV carefully. If you have an existing subscription with a failed renewal, National Geographic says an unsuccessful payment may lead to suspension or termination; check your subscription’s billing status rather than assuming access will continue.

Billing address mismatch

Check for typing errors in your name, street address, postal code and other requested fields. Use your real billing details and keep the shipping address separate if the checkout provides separate fields. Do not substitute an address from another country to make an offer appear available. If you are unsure which billing details to use with your card, ask Coinepay support before retrying.

3-D Secure or another verification prompt

If your payment attempt displays a card-verification prompt, follow the instructions shown and complete it without closing the page prematurely. If no prompt appears, do not assume that verification was the cause of the decline. Check the status of the attempt in Coinepay’s app or dashboard and contact support if you cannot tell whether it was authorized. Avoid placing a second order until you have checked whether the first one completed.

Merchant region or payment-method checks

Confirm that your real location qualifies for the direct U.S./Canada offer and that your billing and shipping information is consistent. The checkout’s “Credit Card” label does not confirm acceptance of every card or card category. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the merchant’s requirements before you buy; if National Geographic rejects the payment method, use an eligible method that the checkout actually offers. Do not try to bypass regional or payment checks.

Manage renewal, bills and cancellation

For a direct magazine subscription, National Geographic directs customers to ngmservice.com. Under Service Options → Account Summary, you can view subscription status and billing information. Use Make A Payment for an outstanding bill. To stop renewal, look under Order Options → Stop Automatic Renewal. Check your account afterward to make sure the requested change is reflected.

Direct subscribers can also cancel during a subscription or trial at ngmservice.com, by calling 1-800-647-5463, or by emailing [email protected]. Under National Geographic’s stated policy, cancelling an annual direct subscription ends digital access immediately and provides a prorated refund for remaining digital time and/or print issues not yet processed for shipping. If you bought through a third party instead, follow that seller’s billing and cancellation terms.
