Coinepay Global Remittance lets you send cross-border transfers to Bangladesh, with the local currency, the exchange rate and any fees shown clearly before you confirm. This guide walks through what you need, the local payout methods you can choose, and what to do if something goes wrong. The receiving currency in Bangladesh is the Bangladeshi taka (BDT), and mobile-wallet payouts are credited to the beneficiary in BDT.

You manage everything from the Coinepay app (iOS and Android) or the 24/7 self-service dashboard. If you do not have an account yet, register and complete identity verification first.

Before you start: what the sender needs

To send money to Bangladesh you need:

  • A Coinepay account with completed identity verification (KYC). Transfers are subject to sanctions screening and local regulations.
  • The recipient's full legal name, spelled exactly as it appears on their bank account, wallet registration or government ID.
  • The payout details for the method you choose (see below).
  • Information Coinepay may request to satisfy compliance, such as the purpose of the transfer and, in some cases, the source of funds.

Use the recipient's real, current details. Mismatched names or incomplete information are among the most common causes of delays and returns.

Choosing a payout method

Bangladesh supports several local payout methods through Coinepay's remittance network. Which options appear depends on the recipient's location and current availability, so check the app for the live list.

Bank account deposit

For a deposit into a Bangladeshi bank account, you will generally need:

  • The recipient's full name as held by the bank.
  • The bank name and branch.
  • The account number. Account numbers in Bangladesh vary by bank; there is no single national format, and some services cap the account number at 17 digits. Use the number exactly as the recipient's bank states it.
  • The receiving bank's SWIFT/BIC for an international wire. Confirm the exact code with the recipient's own bank branch, as large banks have multiple codes.

Two things worth knowing about Bangladesh specifically. First, Bangladesh has no registered national IBAN format, so do not try to construct or enter an IBAN — use the plain bank account number. Second, for the domestic leg of a transfer, banks use nine-digit branch routing numbers (the BEFTN system). Whether you need to supply one depends on the payout instructions Coinepay shows at checkout; follow the fields presented in the app.

Mobile wallet payout

Mobile financial services are widely used in Bangladesh. Wallet options that can receive inward remittances include bKash, Nagad, TAP and UPAY; availability depends on the payout partner at the time you send. For a bKash payout, for example, you supply the beneficiary's registered bKash account number and the matching full name. The wallet number and the name must correspond to the same registered account. Under Bangladesh Bank rules, qualifying foreign inward remittances paid to a mobile account are credited to the beneficiary in BDT.

Cash pickup

Cash pickup lets the recipient collect funds at a participating agent location. The recipient typically needs valid government-issued ID that matches the name on the transfer, and any reference number generated for the payout. Pickup can be affected by agent opening hours, local currency availability at the branch, ID requirements and time-zone differences, so share the collection details with your recipient in advance.

Step-by-step: sending the transfer

  1. Open Coinepay and start a new transfer. In the app or dashboard, go to Global Remittance and choose to send money.
  2. Select Bangladesh as the destination and choose the receiving currency and the payout method (bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup).
  3. Enter the recipient details for that method — full legal name plus the account, wallet or pickup information described above. Double-check every character, especially the account or wallet number and the SWIFT/BIC.
  4. Enter the amount you want to send or the amount you want the recipient to receive.
  5. Review the exchange rate and fees. Coinepay shows the rate and any charges clearly on screen before you confirm, so you can see what the recipient should receive. If a compliance step applies, you may be asked for the purpose of the transfer or supporting documents at this stage.
  6. Confirm the transfer. Once you approve it, the payment is submitted to the payout partner.
  7. Track the status. Every transfer has status tracking in the app. You can follow it from submitted through to paid out, and you will be notified if anything further is needed.

Rules, screening and timing

Cross-border transfers to Bangladesh go through identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulatory checks. Receiving banks apply foreign-exchange and anti-money-laundering (KYC/AML) rules to inward receipts and may ask the recipient for the purpose of the payment and supporting information before crediting the account. Coinepay screens all customers and counterparties against sanctions lists, and cannot send to sanctioned persons or jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.

Bangladesh has been modernising its documentation rules — authorities have moved toward captured digital declarations in place of some older paper forms — and exact requirements can differ between banks. The practical takeaway: provide accurate, consistent information, and respond promptly if the recipient's bank requests anything. Do not split a transfer into smaller amounts, use a third party, or do anything else to avoid checks or reporting.

A government incentive is reported for eligible wage remittances sent through formal channels, but it does not apply automatically to every kind of incoming payment and has its own eligibility conditions. Treat it as something the recipient's bank determines, not a feature of your transfer.

Troubleshooting

Wrong or mismatched recipient details

Missing or incorrect account number, name, address or SWIFT/BIC is a leading cause of rejected or delayed payments. For a bank deposit, confirm the account number, branch and SWIFT/BIC directly with the recipient's bank. For the domestic payout leg, banks may return a transfer with reasons such as a closed account, an account not found or not matching the named recipient, or an invalid account number. If the transfer is returned for any of these reasons, correct the detail and resend.

Compliance review

A receiving bank may hold a payment for pre-credit review — for example for a new or inactive customer, incomplete or inconsistent purpose information, a required approval, or a monitoring alert. If your transfer is under review, supply any documents Coinepay or the bank requests, such as the purpose or source of funds, so screening can be completed.

Delays

Banks aim to credit qualifying receipts quickly when the required details and prior documentation are in order, but timing depends on when the payment arrives, the payout method and any checks. Cash pickup also depends on agent hours and local conditions. Track the status in the app rather than resending.

Returned transfers

If a transfer cannot be completed, it may be returned. Check the status and any message in the Coinepay app, fix the underlying issue, and try again with corrected details.

FAQ

What details do I need to send money to a bank account in Bangladesh?

You generally need the recipient's full legal name, their bank and branch, the account number (there is no universal national format and no IBAN in Bangladesh), and the receiving bank's SWIFT/BIC for an international wire. Confirm the exact SWIFT/BIC with the recipient's own bank branch.

Which mobile wallets can receive money in Bangladesh?

Wallet payout options can include bKash, Nagad, TAP and UPAY, depending on the payout partner available when you send. For bKash you supply the beneficiary's registered account number and matching full name, and the funds are credited in Bangladeshi taka (BDT).

Do I need an IBAN or IFSC code for Bangladesh?

No. Bangladesh has no registered national IBAN format, so you should use the bank account number rather than inventing an IBAN. IFSC and CLABE are used for other countries, not Bangladesh. Follow the exact fields Coinepay shows at checkout.

How much are the fees and the exchange rate?

Coinepay shows the exchange rate and any fees clearly on screen before you confirm, so you can see what your recipient should receive. Review these figures in the app, as they can vary, and confirm only when you are happy.

Why is my transfer to Bangladesh delayed?

A receiving bank may hold a payment for review — for example for a new customer, incomplete purpose information or a monitoring alert — or details such as the account number or SWIFT/BIC may be wrong. Provide any requested documents and verify the recipient details, then track the status in the app.
