You can enter a Coinepay virtual card at Kobo Plus checkout, but acceptance depends on Kobo’s payment rules and your billing region. Before subscribing, check that Kobo Plus is available where you live, choose the right reading or listening plan, and confirm that your card is eligible—particularly if you want a free trial.

What you need before you subscribe

  • A Kobo account: Sign in on kobo.com or create an account during sign-up. Use your real identity and billing details.
  • An eligible location: Kobo Plus is available in selected countries and territories, not worldwide. The plans, trials and payment methods shown at checkout depend on your location.
  • A Coinepay virtual card: Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Coinepay provides a virtual card number, expiry date and CVV, which you can find in the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard.
  • Enough funds for the transaction: Check the amount shown by Kobo, including any applicable tax. Even a trial requires a payment method, and a temporary verification authorization may appear without becoming a charge.

Check trial card eligibility first: Kobo does not accept prepaid Visa or prepaid Mastercard cards to activate a Kobo Plus trial. Do not assume that payment methods accepted for individual Kobo Store purchases also work for a recurring subscription. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets Kobo’s requirement before you buy or start a trial. The card details alone do not establish whether it qualifies.

Choose your Kobo Plus plan and review the price

Kobo Plus Read covers eligible eBooks, Kobo Plus Listen covers eligible audiobooks, and Kobo Plus Read & Listen combines both. The titles included and the plans available can differ by market. Check the Kobo Plus page for your country rather than assuming that a plan shown elsewhere is offered to you.

For a price reference, at the time of writing (October 2026), Kobo’s US page showed monthly prices after any eligible trial of $7.99 for Read, $7.99 for Listen and $9.99 for Read & Listen. It advertised a 14-day trial. Those figures are not a quote for another country or a promise that you qualify for a trial. Check Kobo’s official local pricing page and the final checkout total before confirming; tax treatment and trial terms can vary.

There are also market-specific limits worth checking. In France, the combined Kobo Plus Lire & Écouter offering includes 30 audiobook-listening hours per billing month, rather than unlimited listening hours; unused hours do not roll over. In Canada, Kobo advertises a trial but excludes Quebec residents from it. Read the terms displayed for your location before choosing a plan.

How to sign up and pay on kobo.com

  1. Prepare your card. Open the Coinepay app or dashboard and locate your virtual card number, expiry date and CVV. Check that the card can cover any amount Kobo shows at checkout. If you are unsure whether it meets Kobo’s trial rules, ask Coinepay support before proceeding.
  2. Open Kobo Plus and sign in. Visit the Kobo Plus page for your location on kobo.com. Sign in to your Kobo account or create one. You may also encounter a Start Free Trial option on an eligible title.
  3. Select a plan. Choose the available Read, Listen or combined option that fits your needs. Check which titles and trial terms apply in your market, then review the subscription at checkout.
  4. Enter payment and billing details. If Kobo prompts for a payment method, enter the Coinepay virtual card details. Supply your genuine billing name and address, including the correct postal code. Select Save and Continue.
  5. Review and confirm. Check the plan, billing date, trial end date if offered, and amount due. Select Complete Purchase only when those details are correct. Keep the confirmation for your records.

Kobo may offer different payment choices depending on checkout region. Its subscription payment list includes Visa, Mastercard, American Express, iDEAL|Wero, PayPal except in Brazil, and Bancontact in Belgium only. That list does not guarantee that a particular virtual card or payment attempt will be accepted. If you start a trial, Kobo requires a payment method and bills automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel beforehand.

If Kobo declines the card or checkout will not finish

A decline does not identify its cause by itself. Work through these checks without repeatedly submitting unchanged information:

  • Insufficient available funds or a spending restriction: Compare the amount shown at checkout with the amount available to your card. Consider any applicable tax or temporary verification authorization. Review any spending limit you set in Coinepay and check the card’s status in the app. Contact Coinepay support if the available amount or restriction is unclear.
  • Incorrect card or billing details: Re-enter the card number, expiry date and CVV carefully. Check that your real billing address and postal code are accurate. Kobo lists mistyped details and a billing-address mismatch among possible payment obstacles. You can update saved details on kobo.com under My Account → Account Settings → Payment Information.
  • An authentication step did not complete: If checkout presents a 3-D Secure or other card-verification challenge, follow the on-screen instructions and return to checkout afterward. A timed-out or abandoned challenge can interrupt payment. If no challenge appears, do not assume authentication was the cause; ask Coinepay support to review the attempted payment.
  • A merchant region or card-eligibility check: Confirm that Kobo Plus is offered in your actual country and that the plan and payment method appear for your checkout region. Do not change your location or billing details to work around a restriction. Remember that Kobo excludes prepaid Visa and prepaid Mastercard from trial activation; ask Coinepay support whether your card meets that requirement rather than guessing.
  • Checkout did not complete: Complete any “I’m not a robot” check Kobo presents, then review the result in your account before trying again. If the payment still fails, contact Kobo about the subscription checkout and Coinepay support about the card attempt. Share the time, amount and any on-screen error without sending your full card number or CVV.

Kobo also identifies an unactivated card and card spending limits or credit issues as possible obstacles. These are general troubleshooting possibilities, not an explanation of any specific decline. If you need help with your Coinepay card, use the Coinepay support page.

Manage the subscription and future payments

After sign-up, go to My Account → My Subscriptions on kobo.com to see your Kobo Plus plan and its renewal or cancellation controls. To edit a saved card or billing address, go to My Account → Account Settings → Payment Information. If a renewal fails, check the saved information and your card’s available funds before retrying or contacting support.

To cancel a Kobo-billed subscription, follow My Account → My Subscriptions → Cancel this subscription → Yes, cancel subscription. Do this before a trial ends if you do not want it to convert to paid billing. Kobo’s published pages differ on precisely when access ends after cancellation, so check the confirmation shown in your account or ask Kobo if continued access matters to you. Kobo’s terms say paid subscription fees are generally non-refundable; they state a 14-day cooling-off refund exception for EU subscribers who have not accessed the service.

Finally, keep your billing country accurate. Kobo says that changing an active subscription’s billing country to one where Kobo Plus is unsupported prevents you from adding titles and leads to cancellation at the end of the current billing period. If you move, review availability and your subscription status before relying on continued access.
