You can use Coinepay Global Remittance to send money from the United States to the Dominican Republic. Before you start, ask your recipient how they want to receive it: into a bank account, through an available mobile wallet or by cash pickup. The details you enter depend on that choice. This guide explains what to prepare, how to review the transfer and what to do if something goes wrong.

What you need before sending

Register for Coinepay and complete identity verification before making a transfer. You can manage the transfer through the Coinepay mobile app or 24/7 self-service dashboard. If you have not registered, create an account first.

Ask your recipient for their full legal name exactly as it appears on their bank or wallet account, or on the identification they will use for cash pickup. You will also need payout details for the method you select. Check them directly with the recipient rather than relying on details from an older transfer.

  • Bank deposit: Get the bank name and the recipient’s account number or IBAN, as requested in the transfer form. For an international bank wire, you may also need the receiving bank’s SWIFT/BIC. A bank-deposit provider may request a local bank code or branch number. Ask the recipient to confirm the account’s currency and any bank instructions.
  • Mobile wallet: Get the recipient’s name, wallet provider and wallet-linked Dominican phone number. The wallet may require the recipient to have a verified account.
  • Cash pickup: Get the recipient’s legal name and the other identification or contact details requested in the app. The recipient should be prepared to present valid government-issued photo ID and any pickup reference required by the payout provider.

Depending on the transfer, Coinepay or a payout provider may ask for the recipient’s address, phone number, identification number, account type or the purpose and source of funds. Use accurate information for both sender and recipient. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and applicable local regulations.

Choose a payout method in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic’s local currency is the Dominican peso (DOP). In the Coinepay transfer flow, select the Dominican Republic as the destination and review the payout methods and receiving currencies offered for your transfer. The options shown may depend on the recipient’s location and the payout provider; do not assume that a particular bank, wallet or pickup point is available until you see it in the app.

Bank deposit

Choose bank deposit when the recipient wants funds sent to an account. Dominican banks include Banreservas, Banco Popular, BHD and Scotiabank, but their presence in the country does not mean each is available as a Coinepay payout destination. Select the recipient’s bank from the options shown, then enter the account details the form requests.

A Dominican IBAN has 28 characters: DO, two check digits, a four-character bank identifier and 20 digits. The Dominican Republic is not part of SEPA, so do not treat this as a European SEPA payment. Some receiving instructions use an account number instead of an IBAN. For an international wire, confirm the bank’s SWIFT/BIC with the recipient or their bank. If the form requests a branch number or local bank code, use the bank’s instructions; the Dominican IBAN format itself does not contain a separate branch-identifier field. A US correspondent bank’s ABA routing number, if one appears in wire instructions, does not replace the Dominican recipient’s bank and account details.

Before confirming, check every character of the account number or IBAN and confirm that the recipient’s legal name matches the account. An incorrect beneficiary account number can result in a returned transfer.

Mobile wallet

If mobile-wallet payout appears for your transfer, choose the wallet provider shown and enter the requested recipient details, usually including a wallet-linked phone number. Wallet availability is provider-specific. Billet, for example, describes a US-origin remittance service through a particular provider and says its recipient needs a current Dominican ID and Dominican phone number. That does not establish that Billet is available through Coinepay. Check the options in your Coinepay transfer flow and ask the recipient to confirm their wallet is active and able to receive the payout.

Cash pickup

Choose cash pickup if it is offered for the recipient’s location and they can visit an available pickup point. Enter the recipient’s name exactly as it appears on their government-issued photo ID. After sending, give the recipient the pickup instructions and transfer reference provided for that payout, using a private channel. They should check the pickup location’s identification requirements before visiting and should not share the reference publicly. A pickup point may need to complete its own verification before releasing funds.

How to send the transfer step by step

  1. Sign in to Coinepay. Open the mobile app or self-service dashboard and start a Global Remittance transfer from the United States. Complete any identity-verification steps requested for your account.
  2. Set the destination and currency. Choose the Dominican Republic, enter the amount and select from the sending and receiving currencies presented. Check whether the recipient expects Dominican pesos or a different currency that is offered for their payout method.
  3. Select the payout method. Choose bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup from the available options. Enter the recipient’s full legal name and the bank, wallet or pickup details requested. Recheck names, account numbers, codes and phone numbers before continuing.
  4. Review before confirming. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm a transfer. Review those figures, the amount the recipient is expected to receive, the payout method and all recipient details. If something is wrong, go back and correct it rather than confirming.
  5. Confirm and track. Submit the transfer after you are satisfied with the review. Use Coinepay’s transfer status tracking in the app or dashboard to follow its progress. Keep the transfer reference so you can identify the payment if you need help.

What the recipient should know

For a bank deposit, the recipient should confirm that their account details are correct and check with their bank if they have questions about an incoming international payment or the currency credited. For a wallet payout, they should check their wallet account and any verification requirements. For cash pickup, they should follow the instructions for the specific pickup provider and bring the required ID and reference.

Receiving institutions may check the identities of the sender and recipient and request information about a transfer. If you are sending family support, the Dominican tax authority says receipt of a family remittance does not itself incur Dominican tax. That statement does not determine the treatment of wages, business receipts or other payments; recipients with tax questions about those payments should seek appropriate local advice.

Troubleshooting a transfer

Wrong recipient details

If you notice a misspelled name, incorrect phone number or wrong bank account details after confirming, contact Coinepay support promptly and provide the transfer reference. Do not assume a submitted transfer can be edited or stopped. The receiving provider may reject or return a payment whose details do not match.

Compliance review or a request for documents

A transfer may need additional identity or regulatory checks. Follow requests shown through Coinepay’s official channels and provide accurate documents, which may include evidence of the payment’s purpose or source of funds. Coinepay screens customers and counterparties against sanctions lists and does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.

Delayed or returned transfer

Check the tracked status first. Recipient-bank processing, correspondent banks, cut-off times, weekends, holidays, time-zone differences and verification can affect when a payout arrives. If the status does not explain the situation, contact support with your transfer reference and payout method. If a transfer is returned, ask support what caused the return and what information needs correcting before starting another transfer. Verify any replacement details with the recipient rather than resubmitting the same information.

FAQ

Can I send Dominican pesos from the United States with Coinepay?

The Dominican peso (DOP) is the local currency. Select the Dominican Republic in Coinepay and check the receiving currencies offered for your chosen payout method before confirming.

Does a Dominican bank recipient need an IBAN or an account number?

Use whichever the transfer form and receiving bank request. A Dominican IBAN has 28 characters and begins with DO; an international wire may also require the bank’s SWIFT/BIC.

Can the recipient collect cash instead of using a bank account?

Yes, choose cash pickup if it is offered for the recipient’s location. The recipient should follow the payout instructions and bring the required photo ID and transfer reference.

What if I entered the wrong recipient account number?

Contact Coinepay support promptly with your transfer reference. An incorrect account number can cause a transfer to be returned; do not assume you can edit it after confirmation.
