You can send money from the United States to Mexico with Coinepay Global Remittance. Before you start, ask your recipient how they want to receive the money: in a Mexican bank account, in an available mobile wallet or through cash pickup. The details you need depend on that choice. This guide explains how to prepare those details, review the transfer and follow its status.

What you need before sending

You need a Coinepay account and must complete identity verification before sending. You can register with Coinepay and manage your transfer in the self-service dashboard or Coinepay mobile app. Use your real identity and provide accurate information about the payment and its purpose. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations; Coinepay may request supporting documents, including evidence of the purpose or source of funds.

Ask the recipient for their full legal name exactly as it appears on their bank account, wallet account or identity document, as appropriate. Confirm their chosen payout method before collecting any other details. For a bank deposit, you will generally need their Mexican account identifier, called a CLABE. A direct international bank wire may require additional information, such as the receiving bank’s SWIFT/BIC. For a mobile wallet, you will need the wallet details requested in the transfer form. For cash pickup, the recipient must be able to present acceptable identification and use the transfer reference provided for collection.

The local currency is the Mexican peso (MXN). Choose the destination and payout currency shown in Coinepay, and check the recipient amount in the review screen before you confirm. The available payout details and any additional information requested can differ by provider and receiving institution.

Choose a payout method in Mexico

Bank account deposit: use the recipient’s CLABE

For a deposit to a Mexican bank account, ask the recipient for the name on the account and its 18-digit CLABE. Mexico uses CLABE as its bank-account identifier; it does not use IBAN. A CLABE includes a bank code, a location code, an account field and a check digit. Those bank and location codes are already part of the CLABE, so do not invent separate codes or substitute an ordinary account number when the form asks for a CLABE.

Copy the CLABE from the recipient’s bank app, statement or bank-provided account details, then check every digit with them. Depending on the payment route and what the form requests, you may also need the recipient’s address or other identifying details. If you are arranging a direct international wire rather than a local MXN deposit, ask the receiving bank for its instructions: these may include the recipient’s name, address and CLABE, plus the bank’s SWIFT/BIC. A US ABA routing number, if a bank specifies one for a correspondent, is not the Mexican recipient’s CLABE. Follow the fields Coinepay actually presents for your selected payout route.

Mobile wallet: confirm the provider and registered details

Coinepay supports mobile-wallet payouts, but the available providers for a particular transfer should be checked in the app. Mercado Pago is an example of a wallet used in Mexico; do not assume it or any other named wallet will appear for every recipient. Ask your recipient which wallet they use and confirm the account name and the phone number or other wallet identifier that the selected payout form requests. The recipient should make sure their wallet account is active and able to receive the payment under that provider’s requirements.

Enter wallet information only in fields intended for a wallet payout. A phone number is not a substitute for a bank CLABE, and a wallet account should not be treated as a cash-pickup location. If the recipient’s preferred wallet is not listed when you set up the transfer, choose an available method that the recipient can actually use or contact Coinepay support before confirming.

Cash pickup: agree on a convenient location

Cash pickup lets the recipient collect funds in person at an available payout location. Check the locations and collection instructions displayed for the transfer rather than assuming a particular retail chain or branch participates. The recipient will typically need the transfer reference number and an accepted, valid identity document bearing the same legal name entered on the transfer. Share the reference privately with the intended recipient once it is available.

Before choosing pickup, ask the recipient whether they can reach the selected location and meet its identification requirements. An ID-name mismatch can prevent collection. Cash availability at a particular location may also affect collection, so the recipient should follow any instructions shown for the payout provider. Do not select a location solely because a familiar Mexican retailer offers pickup through another transfer service.

How to send the transfer with Coinepay

  1. Sign in and start a transfer. Open the Coinepay dashboard or mobile app and choose Global Remittance. If you have not completed the required identity verification, finish the steps presented before attempting to send.
  2. Choose the route and payout. Select the United States as the sending country and Mexico as the destination. Choose the available currency and the recipient’s agreed payout method: bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup. Check that the recipient can use the method you select.
  3. Enter recipient and payment details. Use the recipient’s full legal name. Add their CLABE and any requested bank information for a bank deposit, the requested wallet details for a wallet payout, or the recipient information required for cash pickup. Provide any other information the transfer form requests truthfully.
  4. Review before confirming. Check the spelling of the name, the CLABE or wallet identifier, the payout method and the recipient amount. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm the transfer. Review those figures and the transfer summary rather than relying on an earlier estimate.
  5. Confirm and track. Submit the transfer only when the details are correct. Use Coinepay’s transfer status tracking in the dashboard or app to follow its progress. Give the recipient any pickup reference and collection instructions if you selected cash pickup.

What the recipient should consider

For bank deposit, the recipient should check that their account can receive the intended payment and that the CLABE belongs to them. For a wallet payout, they should verify their registered details and follow any provider instructions. For cash pickup, they should bring the required identification and reference to the selected location. Receiving banks and payout providers may perform their own checks or ask for information before releasing funds.

The recipient may also need to keep records explaining why they received the money. In Mexico, reporting or tax treatment can depend on whether a payment is a gift, loan, income or another type of receipt, and on the recipient’s circumstances. Not every family remittance is treated the same way. If either of you is unsure how to document the transfer or report it, consult a qualified Mexican tax professional rather than describing the payment inaccurately.

Troubleshooting a Mexico transfer

  • Wrong recipient details: If you spot a misspelled legal name, incorrect CLABE, wrong wallet identifier or unsuitable pickup location, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly. Do not assume submitted details can be edited or that a payment can be stopped after it has been processed.
  • Compliance review: A transfer may require additional identity, purpose-of-payment or source-of-funds documents. Respond through the requested channel with accurate records. Coinepay screens customers and counterparties against sanctions lists and cannot serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.
  • Transfer not yet received: Check status tracking first, then ask the recipient to verify the correct bank account, wallet or pickup instructions. Reviews, incorrect information, receiving-provider issues, weekends and public holidays can affect processing. If the status does not explain what to do next, contact support with the transfer reference.
  • Returned or cancelled transfer: A receiving bank may reject a closed account or mismatched details; missing verification information or uncollected cash may also prevent completion. Check the status and any message from Coinepay, then ask support what correction or next step is available before creating another transfer.

FAQ

Does a recipient in Mexico need an IBAN?

No. Mexico uses an 18-digit CLABE for bank-account identification, not an IBAN. Enter the details requested for your selected payout method.

Do I need a SWIFT/BIC to send to a Mexican bank account?

A direct international bank wire may require the receiving bank’s SWIFT/BIC. For a local MXN bank deposit, follow the Coinepay form and obtain the recipient’s CLABE.

Can my recipient collect cash in Mexico?

Coinepay supports cash pickup. Check the available location and its instructions in the transfer flow; the recipient generally needs the transfer reference and matching, accepted identification.

What if I entered the wrong CLABE or recipient name?

Check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. Do not assume the details can be changed after submission.

When will I see the exchange rate and fees?

Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm the transfer. Review the displayed amount and payout details before submitting.
