Coinepay Global Remittance lets you send money to Hong Kong from your verified account, with the exchange rate and fees shown clearly before you confirm. This guide walks through what you need to collect from your recipient, the local payout methods you can choose, and how to track the transfer until it arrives.
Before you start
You will need a Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. If you have not registered yet, you can create an account and finish verification first, then manage everything from the 24/7 dashboard or the Coinepay app on iOS and Google Play.
Coinepay supports transfers to Hong Kong with multi-currency options. Every transfer is subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and the rules of the sending and receiving jurisdictions. Coinepay may ask you for supporting information such as the purpose of the payment or the source of funds, so it helps to have that ready.
What you need from your recipient
The details depend on the payout method, but in general gather the recipient's full legal name exactly as it appears on their account or ID, plus a contact number. For a Hong Kong bank deposit you will typically need:
- The recipient's registered account name (this must match the bank's records).
- The account number.
- The receiving bank's name and address.
- The bank's SWIFT/BIC code for the incoming international payment.
Hong Kong does not have a national IBAN in the current SWIFT IBAN registry, so there is no HK IBAN to enter — use the bank's own account details and SWIFT/BIC instead. Hong Kong account number formats vary by bank: HSBC, for example, uses a 10- or 12-digit number whose first three digits are the branch code. The three-digit bank and branch codes (HSBC's local bank code is 004, for instance) are used mainly for local Hong Kong payments; an overseas transfer usually relies on the SWIFT/BIC. If you are unsure which fields are required, ask the recipient to confirm with their bank what an overseas sender should supply.
Note that identifiers from other countries — such as an Indian IFSC, a Mexican CLABE or a US routing number — are not Hong Kong account identifiers and will not work.
Local currency and payout methods
Hong Kong's local currency is the Hong Kong dollar (HKD). When you set up the transfer you can choose the currency the recipient receives, and Coinepay shows the rate and fees before you confirm.
Bank account deposit
The funds land directly in the recipient's Hong Kong bank account. This is a common choice for both personal and business payments. Make sure the registered account name matches the account exactly — a mismatched name is a frequent reason incoming payments are rejected. Provide the account number, bank name and address, and the SWIFT/BIC as described above.
Mobile wallets
Hong Kong's Faster Payment System (FPS) connects participating banks and e-wallets using a registered mobile number, email address or account details. Whether a wallet payout is available from your specific sending country depends on the payout options and partner network, so check which methods appear for Hong Kong when you build the transfer in the Coinepay app. If a wallet option is shown, you will usually need the recipient's registered name and the identifier tied to their wallet (such as the phone number or account linked to it). If a wallet is not offered for your route, a bank deposit is the reliable alternative.
Cash pickup
With cash pickup, the recipient collects the money in person at a payout location. For this method you will need the recipient's full legal name as it appears on their ID. The recipient then presents valid identification and the transfer's tracking number to collect the funds. Confirm the name is spelled correctly, because the ID must match the details on the transfer.
Step by step: sending the transfer
- Open Global Remittance. In the Coinepay dashboard or app, start a new transfer and select Hong Kong as the destination.
- Choose the payout method. Pick bank deposit, mobile wallet (if available for your route) or cash pickup, and select the currency the recipient should receive.
- Enter the recipient details. Type the full legal name and the fields required for your chosen method. Double-check every digit of the account number and the SWIFT/BIC.
- Enter the amount. The app calculates the conversion and shows you the exchange rate and fees that apply to your transfer.
- Review before confirming. Check the recipient details, the rate and the fees on the summary screen. This is your chance to fix anything before the money moves.
- Confirm and pay. Submit the transfer. You may be asked for information about the purpose or source of funds as part of compliance checks.
- Track the status. Each transfer has status tracking in the dashboard and app. Share the tracking number with your recipient if they are collecting cash.
Recipient-side considerations
Hong Kong does not impose foreign-exchange controls that restrict money being transferred into the city, but that does not remove bank screening or the rules in your sending country. Receiving banks and money-service operators carry out their own customer due diligence, and an incoming payment can trigger routine questions.
Depending on what the payment represents, receipt can have tax consequences for the recipient — for example, certain foreign-sourced income received in Hong Kong by a qualifying business entity may fall within profits tax rules unless an exception applies. If your recipient is a business or the amount is significant, suggest they take their own professional advice. Coinepay cannot give tax advice.
Troubleshooting
Wrong recipient details
Incorrect account numbers, a misspelled name or a registered account name that does not match the bank's records can cause the receiving bank to reject the payment. Re-check the details with your recipient before you confirm. If you spot an error after sending, contact Coinepay support as soon as possible.
Compliance review
Transfers are screened against sanctions lists and may be held for review. If Coinepay asks for documents about the purpose or source of funds, responding quickly helps the transfer continue. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.
Delays
Compliance checks, missing address fields, intermediary-bank processing, bank cut-off times and public holidays can all affect how quickly a payment is processed. Check the live status in the app before assuming something is wrong.
Returned transfers
If the receiving bank rejects the payment — for example because of a name mismatch or a closed account — the funds are typically returned. Watch the transfer status, confirm the corrected details with your recipient, and reach out to support if you need help resending.

FAQ
What details do I need to send money to a Hong Kong bank account?
You generally need the recipient's registered account name, the account number, the receiving bank's name and address, and the bank's SWIFT/BIC. Hong Kong has no national IBAN, so use the bank's own account details instead.
Does Hong Kong use an IBAN?
No. Hong Kong does not have a national IBAN in the current SWIFT registry. Enter the receiving institution's account number and SWIFT/BIC rather than trying to create an HK IBAN.
Can I send money to a Hong Kong mobile wallet?
Wallet payout availability depends on your sending country and the partner network. Open a transfer in the Coinepay app to see which methods are offered for Hong Kong; if a wallet is not available, bank deposit is a reliable alternative.
How much does it cost and how long does it take?
Coinepay shows the exact exchange rate and fees before you confirm each transfer. Delivery time depends on the payout method and route, and the current status is always visible in the dashboard and app.
Why might my transfer to Hong Kong be delayed or returned?
Common reasons include a name that does not match the account, incorrect account details, compliance review, missing address fields, bank cut-off times or public holidays. Check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support if you need help.
