You can enter a Coinepay virtual card during GitLab’s subscription checkout, but payment is subject to GitLab’s card requirements and approval at checkout. This guide covers what to prepare, how to buy a GitLab.com subscription, and what to check if your card is declined.

Before you start

GitLab offers Free, Premium, and Ultimate tiers for GitLab.com and GitLab Self-Managed. At the time of writing (October 2026), GitLab lists Free at $0 per user/month and Premium at $29 per user/month, billed annually; Ultimate requires a custom quote. The Premium figure is a per-user rate, not a monthly-payment option. Taxes may apply. Check GitLab’s official pricing page for the price and terms shown to you before purchasing.

For GitLab.com, you will need a GitLab account and a top-level group whose subscription you can upgrade. Decide how many seats you need and review the annual total in checkout. If you are purchasing GitLab Self-Managed instead, start from its plan selection on GitLab’s pricing page; the purchase continues in the Customers Portal, and GitLab emails an activation code after purchase.

To use a Coinepay card, register with Coinepay and complete identity verification (KYC) first. Coinepay issues virtual cards with a card number, expiry date, and CVV, which you can access through its self-service dashboard or mobile app. Check your available funds and the card information there before starting checkout. If you need help with card eligibility or a declined transaction, contact Coinepay support.

Check GitLab’s payment requirement before buying: GitLab says self-service purchases in its Customers Portal require a credit card on file. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy. GitLab directs customers who need another payment method to its Sales team; wire transfers and checks are available through Sales. Do not assume that entering card details guarantees GitLab will accept the payment.

How to buy a GitLab.com subscription

  1. Create your GitLab account and top-level group. Sign up on GitLab.com using your real account information. Create the top-level group you want to subscribe; check that you are working in the right group before choosing a paid tier.
  2. Open the upgrade flow. In that group, go to Settings → Billing → Upgrade subscription. Select the tier you want and review the GitLab Credits option presented during the upgrade. Continue to the Customers Portal.
  3. Enter seats and billing details. Specify the number of seats, then review the displayed subscription total, billing information, and applicable terms. Use your real billing name and address. Confirm that the details you enter match the information associated with your payment card; do not substitute an address to try to satisfy a regional check.
  4. Enter your Coinepay card details. Retrieve the card number, expiry date, and CVV from your Coinepay dashboard or app and enter them into GitLab’s payment form. Check each field carefully. Complete any verification requested during checkout using the instructions shown to you.
  5. Review and submit. Check the seats, annual charge, any tax, and any separate GitLab Credits selection. Accept GitLab’s terms if you agree, then select Buy subscription. Wait for the checkout result rather than repeatedly submitting the card form.

GitLab Credits deserve a separate look before you confirm. GitLab’s checkout includes a Credits option, and purchased on-demand Credits may create usage charges billed monthly, distinct from the annually paid seat subscription. Review the selection and displayed terms so you understand both the subscription charge and any potential usage billing.

Where to manage payments and renewal

In GitLab’s Customers Portal, Billing account settings contains payment methods and billing contacts. Use Invoices to view invoices and, where available, pay an invoice by card. If you need to update the card later, check the payment method saved to the relevant billing account rather than assuming a new card will automatically replace it.

Customers Portal purchases auto-renew by default. To turn off auto-renewal, open the subscription card and choose Subscription actions → Cancel subscription. For purchases governed by GitLab’s current Subscription Agreement, you must opt out at least 30 days before the term ends; the subscription continues through its current term. GitLab generally treats fees, including prepaid fees, as non-refundable, subject to the applicable agreement’s exceptions. Check the agreement governing your purchase and the renewal date shown in your account before acting.

What to do if your GitLab card payment is declined

Start with the exact message displayed by GitLab, then check the corresponding details in your Coinepay account. A decline does not, by itself, identify which company rejected the transaction.

Insufficient funds, expired details, or a spending limit

GitLab lists insufficient funds, card expiration, and transaction or credit-limit excess among possible decline causes. Compare the available funds shown by Coinepay with the full amount due at checkout, including seats and any applicable tax—not just the advertised per-user monthly rate. Check the card’s expiry date and any spending controls visible in your account. If the cause is unclear, ask Coinepay support to review the attempted payment.

Card details or billing address do not match

Re-enter the card number, expiry date, and CVV carefully, and check the billing name and address you supplied to GitLab. GitLab identifies incorrect card details or address as possible causes of a failed purchase. Use your own accurate billing information. If you recently changed an address, check which details should be used for your card before trying again.

Verification or 3-D Secure does not complete

If checkout presents a 3-D Secure or other card-verification step, follow the on-screen instructions and return to GitLab to see whether the purchase completed. Do not assume a charge succeeded because a verification screen closed. If verification fails or you cannot access it, check your Coinepay app or dashboard for relevant information and contact support with the time of the attempt and the message shown. GitLab’s checkout may not present the same verification step for every payment.

Merchant, issuer, or regional checks block the purchase

GitLab documents the message Transaction declined.402 - [card_error/card_declined/transaction_not_allowed] Your card does not support this type of purchase. An issuer may also decline a transaction it does not permit. GitLab advises holders of non-U.S. cards to check international-use settings and country restrictions. For India-issued cards affected by RBI e-mandate rules, GitLab identifies this error as a possible outcome and advises using an authorized local reseller. Do not change your stated location or billing details to work around a restriction. Ask Coinepay support about your card’s eligibility and, if needed, ask GitLab about purchase options available in your location.

GitLab also applies trade-compliance restrictions to its paid software, including restrictions involving listed destinations and parties. Coinepay likewise screens customers and counterparties against sanctions lists and does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions. A card cannot make an otherwise restricted purchase permissible.

You have submitted the form too many times

If you see Attempt_Exceed_Limitation - Attempt exceed the limitation, refresh page to try again., stop retrying. GitLab says this can occur after three card-form submissions within one minute or six within one hour, and advises waiting before trying again. Check whether an earlier attempt created a subscription or invoice before submitting another payment.

If self-service checkout still does not work

Keep the error text, attempted amount, time, and relevant billing-account information for support, but do not send your full card number or CVV in a support message. Contact Coinepay support for help with the card attempt. For questions about the GitLab subscription, invoice, or alternative purchase route, contact GitLab through its official channels. If you need to pay without a card, GitLab directs customers to Sales to discuss its available payment methods.
