You can send money to Guatemala with Coinepay Global Remittance. Before you begin, ask your recipient how they want to receive it: in a bank account, through an available mobile wallet, or as cash pickup. The details you enter depend on that choice. This guide explains what to prepare, how to review the transfer before confirming it, and what to do if delivery needs attention.
What you need before sending
Register for Coinepay and complete identity verification before using the service. You can manage the transfer from the Coinepay mobile app or the 24/7 self-service dashboard. Have the recipient’s full legal name exactly as it appears on their bank account, wallet registration or identity document, along with the details required for your chosen payout method.
Guatemala’s local currency is the quetzal (GTQ), often shown as Q. Check the sending and receiving currency options displayed for your transfer. Guatemala also permits foreign-currency bank accounts, so do not assume a deposit will arrive in GTQ: the account, payout route and options shown at checkout matter. Confirm the intended receiving currency with the recipient before proceeding.
You may also be asked for the recipient’s address, contact number or relationship to you, or for information about the purpose or source of the funds. Use accurate information that matches the recipient’s records. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and applicable local regulations; Coinepay may request supporting documents.
Choose a payout method for Guatemala
Coinepay supports bank deposit, mobile-wallet and cash-pickup payouts. Check the options presented for your Guatemala transfer in the app or dashboard before collecting final recipient details. A payout method or particular receiving institution may not be available on every route.
Bank-account deposit
Ask the recipient for their account holder’s full legal name, receiving bank name and the actual account identifier the bank instructs them to use for an incoming transfer. Also obtain their address and the bank’s SWIFT/BIC if requested. Depending on the route, the form may ask for a branch number, local bank identifier or recipient mobile number. Copy the bank’s instructions rather than guessing which fields are optional.
Guatemala has a 28-character IBAN format: GT, two check digits, a four-character bank identifier and a 20-character account component. That does not mean every incoming deposit asks for an IBAN. Some bank instructions instead call for an account number and SWIFT/BIC. Ask the recipient to obtain their own IBAN or account details directly from their bank, then enter the format the Coinepay payout form requests. Guatemala is not a SEPA country, so do not treat its IBAN as a SEPA payment instruction.
A SWIFT/BIC identifies a particular bank; a code found for one Guatemalan bank must not be reused for another. If the receiving bank supplies currency-specific intermediary-bank instructions, follow the instructions relevant to the selected route rather than adding an intermediary by default. Mexican CLABE numbers and US ABA routing numbers are not substitutes for Guatemalan account details. Recipients may, for example, bank with Banrural, Banco Industrial or Banco G&T Continental, but check the receiving-bank options shown for your transfer rather than assuming a bank is available.
Mobile wallet
If mobile-wallet payout appears for your Guatemala route, select a wallet listed in Coinepay’s transfer flow and ask the recipient for the registered account name and mobile number or other wallet identifier requested there. The recipient should confirm that their wallet is active and can receive this type of incoming transfer. Availability depends on the route; do not assume that a wallet offered by another remittance provider is offered here.
Do not select Tigo Money for an international remittance to Guatemala. Tigo says its remittance service ended on March 31, 2026, and direct attempts to send to it from April 1 are rejected at origin. Because current receiving-wallet options can change, use the wallets actually displayed at checkout. If none appears, choose an available bank-deposit or cash-pickup option instead.
Cash pickup
If cash pickup is offered for your transfer, choose the available pickup option and enter the recipient’s name exactly as it appears on their valid photo ID. The recipient should have that ID and any transfer reference or pickup instructions provided for the transaction. A pickup agent may also ask for the sender’s name, origin country or expected amount. Share the reference privately with the intended recipient.
Before sending, check that the recipient can reach the selected pickup location and meet its identification requirements. Agent hours, available currency and local rules can affect collection. The recipient should follow the instructions for the specific payout provider shown on the transfer, rather than using another provider’s tracking number or pickup process.
How to send money to Guatemala step by step
- Sign in to a verified Coinepay account. If you are new, register and complete the required identity verification first.
- Start a Global Remittance transfer. Choose Guatemala as the destination, then select the sending and receiving currencies offered for your route. Enter the amount you intend to send.
- Choose the payout method. Select an available bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup option. Enter the recipient’s full legal name and the payout details requested for that method.
- Review everything before confirming. Check the recipient name, account or wallet identifier, bank details or pickup option, currencies and amount. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm; review the displayed information and the amount the recipient is expected to receive.
- Confirm and track the transfer. Submit it only when the information is correct. Use its status tracking in the Coinepay app or dashboard, and retain the transfer reference for any follow-up.
Do not send a second transfer just because the first has not yet reached the recipient. Check its status and any requests for information first.
What the recipient may need to do
For a bank deposit, the recipient should verify that their account can accept the selected payout currency and ask their bank whether it needs any additional incoming-payment information. The Bank of Guatemala describes a foreign-exchange statistical form for qualifying funds received from abroad, including incoming family remittances and foreign funds credited to a USD account. The recipient can ask their bank whether a form applies and how to complete it.
Guatemalan financial institutions may also verify an incoming payment or ask about its purpose under local monitoring requirements. For cash pickup, the recipient should bring valid identification that matches the transfer name. For a wallet payout, they should check the receiving instructions for the wallet offered in the transfer flow. These requirements are separate from the details the sender supplies at checkout.
Troubleshooting a Guatemala transfer
- Wrong recipient or bank details: If you notice a misspelled legal name, incorrect account or IBAN, wrong SWIFT/BIC, or an outdated mobile number, contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. Do not assume details can be changed after confirmation. Ask the recipient to verify the correct information with their bank or wallet provider.
- Compliance review: Check the transfer status and respond to any request for identity documents or evidence of the payment’s purpose or source of funds. Coinepay screens customers and counterparties against sanctions lists and cannot serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions.
- Recipient has not received the money: Check status tracking first, then have the recipient check their bank, wallet or selected pickup provider using the appropriate reference. Bank processing, weekends, public holidays or verification can affect a transfer. If a receiving bank requests a SWIFT trace, ask support whether a SWIFT confirmation and its UETR are available for that transfer; do not assume every payout uses SWIFT.
- Transfer rejected or returned: Incorrect details or receiving-institution requirements may result in a rejection or return. Review the status and contact support before trying again. Reconfirm the recipient’s details and payout instructions instead of repeatedly submitting the same information.
To start or check a transfer, use the Coinepay app or dashboard. If the required payout option, currency or bank is not shown for your route, contact support before confirming.

FAQ
Can I send money to a bank account in Guatemala?
Yes, if bank deposit is available for your route. Ask the recipient for the account details their bank requires, and enter the identifiers requested in Coinepay’s transfer form.
Do I need a Guatemalan IBAN or a SWIFT/BIC?
Use the details requested for your selected payout. Guatemala has a 28-character IBAN format, but some incoming-bank instructions use an account number and the receiving bank’s SWIFT/BIC instead. Confirm the correct details with the recipient’s bank.
Which mobile wallet can receive my Guatemala transfer?
Check the wallets displayed for your route in Coinepay before sending. Availability varies, and Tigo Money’s international-remittance service has ended.
What does someone need to collect a cash pickup?
They generally need valid photo ID matching the transfer name and the reference or instructions for the selected pickup provider. The agent may ask for the sender’s name, origin country or expected amount.
What if my Guatemala transfer is delayed or returned?
Check its tracked status, confirm the recipient’s details, and contact Coinepay support with the transfer reference. Respond to any document request and wait for the outcome before attempting another transfer.
