You can send money to Canada with Coinepay Global Remittance. Before starting, ask your recipient how they want to receive the money and collect the details for that payout method. You will see the exchange rate and fees in Coinepay before you confirm the transfer.
What you need before sending
Sign in to your Coinepay account and complete any identity verification requested for your transfer. Coinepay screens customers and counterparties against sanctions lists, and transfers are subject to local regulations. You may be asked for documents explaining the purpose of the payment or the source of the funds.
Have the recipient’s full legal name ready. It should match the name on their bank account, wallet account or identification, as applicable. Use your own real identity and accurate payment details, too. If you do not yet have an account, you can register with Coinepay and use its app or 24/7 self-service dashboard to manage the transfer.
Canada’s local currency is the Canadian dollar (CAD). Confirm with the recipient which account or collection option they can use, and check the currencies and payout methods displayed for your particular transfer in Coinepay. Do not assume that a Canadian bank account denominated in another currency can receive a CAD payout.
Choose a payout method for Canada
Coinepay supports bank deposit, mobile-wallet and cash-pickup payouts globally. The options presented for Canada can depend on the transfer route. Select a method shown in the Coinepay app or dashboard, then follow its prompts for the recipient details. Ask the recipient to verify those details before you confirm.
Bank account deposit
For a deposit to a Canadian chequing or savings account, ask the recipient for their legal account-holder name, account number, three-digit institution number and five-digit branch transit number. These identify the bank and branch. The recipient can find the correct details in their banking information or obtain receiving instructions directly from their bank. Enter the account number exactly as supplied; do not add or remove digits to make it resemble an example.
Canadian bank instructions generally use an account number plus institution and transit numbers, not a Canadian IBAN. If a form requests an IBAN, do not invent one. Check that you selected the correct destination and payout route, or ask Coinepay support which details the route requires.
If the available route requests international-wire details, the recipient may also need to provide their address, the bank branch’s name and address, and the bank’s SWIFT/BIC if available. Some wire forms ask for a Canadian clearing code rather than separate bank and branch fields. Its format depends on the receiving bank’s instructions; ask the recipient to copy the code their bank provides instead of constructing it yourself. IFSC and CLABE are not Canadian receiving-bank codes.
Mobile-wallet payout
If Coinepay offers a mobile-wallet option for the Canada route you select, the recipient needs an eligible wallet account and the wallet identifier requested on the transfer form, such as a registered mobile number. Ask them to confirm that the wallet is active and that its registered name matches the legal name you enter. No particular Canadian mobile wallet is confirmed as an available Coinepay payout destination; rely on the options shown in your app rather than selecting a wallet used in another country.
You may also have heard of Interac e-Transfer, which some providers use for Canadian payouts to an email address registered with the recipient’s financial institution. It is not the same thing as a mobile-wallet payout. Do not assume Interac e-Transfer is available through Coinepay; choose it only if it appears as an option for your transfer, and follow the on-screen receiving instructions.
Cash pickup
If cash pickup appears for your Canada transfer, enter the recipient’s legal name exactly as it appears on the identification they will use to collect the money. Review the available collection instructions and location information before confirming. The recipient should bring acceptable identification and any transfer reference or tracking number provided for collection. Confirm the specific pickup requirements shown for your transfer; a tracking number alone does not replace an identity check.
How to send the transfer step by step
- Sign in and start a transfer. Open the Coinepay app or self-service dashboard and select the option to send money. Complete any requested identity-verification steps before proceeding.
- Choose Canada and the currency. Set Canada as the recipient’s destination. Select the sending and receiving currencies offered for your route; choose CAD if the recipient is expecting Canadian dollars in an eligible CAD account or payout.
- Select the payout method. Choose an available bank deposit, mobile-wallet or cash-pickup option. The details requested will change with the method and route.
- Enter recipient details. Use the recipient’s full legal name and the bank, wallet or pickup information they have verified. If asked for the payment purpose or supporting documents, answer accurately and provide what is requested.
- Review before confirming. Check the recipient, destination, currency, payout method and every account or contact field. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm. Review the amount the recipient is expected to receive and any instructions displayed on the confirmation screen.
- Confirm and track. Confirm only when the information is correct. Open the transfer’s status in the Coinepay app or dashboard to follow its progress, and retain the reference and transaction record for any follow-up.
What the recipient should know
Tell the recipient which payout method you selected. For bank deposit, they should check the intended account and provide its official receiving instructions—not a card number or an account belonging to someone else. Their bank may apply its own incoming-payment checks or ask about the payment. A bank can also reject a transfer even if the entered details look correct, so the recipient may need to contact the bank for an explanation.
For a wallet payout, the recipient should check that their account can accept the offered route and watch for instructions from the wallet provider. For cash pickup, they should check the collection requirements before travelling to a location. Availability and recipient requirements can vary by route.
Canadian financial institutions and other covered entities have reporting and identity-verification duties for certain incoming international transfers. Reporting does not itself mean that a recipient cannot receive a payment. The tax treatment depends on what the payment represents: for example, a personal gift and payment for work are not the same. The recipient should keep records and seek qualified Canadian tax advice if unsure.
Troubleshooting a Canada transfer
- Wrong name, account number or bank code: Check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. Provide the corrected details requested through the appropriate channel. An error can delay the transfer or cause the receiving institution to reject it; a correction may not be possible once processing has advanced.
- Transfer under compliance review: Respond to requests for identification, the payment purpose or source-of-funds documents with accurate information. Transfers remain subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Do not send through another person or divide a payment to avoid checks or reporting.
- Status has not changed: Check the status in Coinepay first. Receiving-bank processing, additional checks, weekends and public holidays can affect progress. If you need an update, give support the transfer reference rather than submitting a duplicate transfer.
- Transfer returned or rejected: Review the status and ask support what action is available. Have the recipient check with their bank or payout provider for any receiving-side reason. Confirm the correct details and route before deciding whether to send again; do not assume a return means every alternative route will work.
