WeTransfer is a file-transfer and cloud-sharing service with paid plans that unlock larger transfers and more storage. If you want to upgrade from the Free plan, you will need a card on file at checkout. This guide explains how to pay for a WeTransfer subscription using a Coinepay virtual card, from setting up your card to confirming the purchase, with a troubleshooting section for the most common reasons a card is declined.

What you need before you start

To subscribe to a paid WeTransfer plan with a Coinepay virtual card, make sure you have the following ready:

  • A Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. You can register here and finish verification before you create a card.
  • A Coinepay virtual card issued in your dashboard or in the Coinepay app (iOS / Google Play). You will see the card number, expiry date and CVV instantly after issuance.
  • Enough balance on the card to cover the first charge in full. WeTransfer reviews the final price before you confirm, so fund the card for that amount plus any applicable tax.
  • Your real billing details — name, address and country — matching the identity you registered with. Use accurate information; never enter a fake address to work around a regional check.

Because WeTransfer does not publish a definitive list of accepted card networks or types, confirm your card details will work for this merchant. If you are unsure, contact Coinepay support to check your card meets the requirement before you buy.

Choosing a WeTransfer plan

WeTransfer's current plans are Free, Starter, Ultimate, Teams and Enterprise. Here is a brief overview to help you pick:

PlanWho it suits
FreeUp to 10 transfers or 3 GB total in a rolling 30-day period.
StarterUp to 10 transfers or 300 GB; a step up for individuals.
UltimateUnlimited transfer counts and higher limits.
TeamsPer-seat shared workspace for up to 50 seats.
Enterprise50 or more seats; requires a sales quote.

WeTransfer's 2025 plan refresh introduced Starter and merged the former Pro and Premium tiers into Ultimate. Prices vary by region and currency, and tax may be added at checkout, so check the current amount on WeTransfer's official pricing page before you commit. At the time of writing (October 2026) a verified live price was not available to us, so always rely on the figure WeTransfer shows on its own checkout screen.

Step-by-step: subscribe and pay

  1. Create or log in to your WeTransfer account. You can sign up with email or with Google, Apple or Slack. On the sign-up page you can choose a plan and select Continue.
  2. Select a paid plan. Creating an account does not activate a paid plan on its own — a website subscription requires you to pick a paid plan, enter payment details, review the final price and confirm the purchase.
  3. Enter your payment method. At checkout, choose to pay by card and enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV, along with your billing address exactly as it appears on your Coinepay account.
  4. EU business customers: add VAT details first. If you need VAT on your receipt, enter your VAT details before paying — an already-paid receipt cannot be amended afterwards.
  5. Review and confirm. Check the final price shown, then confirm. For Teams, the flow is Upgrade → Teams → Continue, where you set the seat count, see a cost estimate, choose a payment method and select Purchase WeTransfer Teams.
  6. Complete any bank authentication. If prompted with a 3-D Secure or similar challenge, approve it in the Coinepay app so the payment can go through.

After payment, your plan activates and you can find your invoice under workspace name → Account settings → Plan and payment → Receipts.

Managing billing after you subscribe

Website billing and payment settings live under workspace name → Account settings → Plan and payment. Note that the billing country cannot be changed there, so set it correctly at sign-up. To update the card on file, open the same section and replace your payment method with a new Coinepay card.

One important distinction: if you ever subscribe through the Apple App Store or Google Play instead of the website, that subscription is managed through the relevant store rather than the website's normal controls. Paying directly on the WeTransfer website keeps everything in the Plan and payment area.

Payment methods WeTransfer accepts

Website subscriptions accept credit cards, PayPal, and country-dependent methods such as iDEAL and SOFORT. Ordinary direct debit and bank transfer are not supported, except by arrangement for a custom Enterprise plan. Available methods vary by country, and WeTransfer's terms note that some features may not be available everywhere and prohibit use in territories under comprehensive sanctions or embargoes.

Troubleshooting: card declined

WeTransfer points to insufficient funds, an expired card, or a bank's restriction on international payments as reasons a subscription payment may be refused, and also suggests checking your browser settings and network connection. Here is how to work through the common causes with a Coinepay card:

Insufficient balance

The most frequent cause is not enough money on the card. One user, for example, saw a bank-app notification that a $228 WeTransfer payment failed due to insufficient balance. Top up your Coinepay card so it covers the full plan price plus any tax, then retry.

Billing address mismatch

If the billing address you type at checkout does not match the details on your Coinepay account, the payment can be rejected. Re-enter your address exactly as it appears in your Coinepay dashboard, including country and postal code.

3-D Secure / authentication not completed

A card payment can be declined if you do not complete an authentication challenge requested by your card issuer. Keep the Coinepay app open and approve the prompt promptly; if it times out, start the checkout again.

International or merchant region checks

WeTransfer availability and accepted payment methods differ by country. If your card type is refused for your region, don't re-enter it repeatedly. Instead, confirm the details with Coinepay support and check WeTransfer's help center for the methods available where you are.

Still declined?

Wait a few minutes before retrying so repeated attempts don't trigger a temporary block, verify the card number, expiry and CVV, and try a stable network. If it still fails, contact Coinepay support to confirm the transaction reached the card, and reach out to WeTransfer support for merchant-side issues.

Cancellations and refunds

You can cancel on the website under Plan and payment → Manage plan → Cancel plan. Cancelling stops renewal at the end of the paid period and does not automatically issue a refund. After a paid plan ends, active transfers have a grace period of up to 28 days before permanent deletion unless you subscribe again.

WeTransfer's published self-service refund windows are 20 days after the charge for weekly or monthly plans and 60 days for yearly plans, usually for the most recent charge only, with Sales-purchased Enterprise plans excluded. EEA and U.K. consumers have additional rights, including a stated 14-day withdrawal route for EU residents and prorated refunds on auto-renewed annual plans. Website refund requests use the account's self-service refund page, though iDEAL and SEPA payments require Support.

A quick note on using Coinepay for your other tools

Once your Coinepay card works for WeTransfer, you can use it for other subscriptions too — advertising, AI tools, software and online shopping. Businesses can issue a dedicated card per ad account with custom spending limits, and Coinepay also offers global remittance if you need to pay partners abroad. Manage everything from the 24/7 dashboard or app. Learn more on the Coinepay home page or reach the team on Telegram.

FAQ

Does WeTransfer accept virtual cards?

WeTransfer's website accepts credit cards, PayPal and country-dependent methods such as iDEAL and SOFORT, but it does not publish a definitive list of accepted card networks or types. Enter your Coinepay card details at checkout, and if you are unsure whether your card qualifies, contact Coinepay support before you buy.

Which WeTransfer plan should I pay for?

Free covers up to 10 transfers or 3 GB in a rolling 30-day period. Starter raises storage to 300 GB, Ultimate adds unlimited transfers, Teams is a per-seat workspace for up to 50 seats, and Enterprise (50+ seats) needs a sales quote. Check current prices on WeTransfer's official pricing page.

Why was my Coinepay card declined at WeTransfer checkout?

Common causes are insufficient balance, a billing address that doesn't match your Coinepay account, an uncompleted 3-D Secure authentication, or a regional restriction on international card payments. Top up the card, re-enter matching details, approve the app prompt, then retry. If it keeps failing, contact Coinepay support.

Where do I find my WeTransfer receipt and billing settings?

Go to workspace name → Account settings → Plan and payment. Receipts are under Plan and payment → Receipts. The billing country cannot be changed there, so set it correctly at sign-up, and EU business customers should add VAT details before paying.

Can I get a refund if I cancel WeTransfer?

Cancelling under Plan and payment → Manage plan → Cancel plan stops renewal but does not automatically refund you. WeTransfer's self-service refund windows are 20 days for monthly plans and 60 days for yearly plans, usually for the most recent charge, with extra rights for EEA and U.K. consumers.
