Mailchimp is a popular email marketing and automation platform, and most of its paid Marketing plans are billed monthly to a card on file. If you manage one dashboard for your payments, a Coinepay virtual card can be a tidy way to handle that recurring charge. This guide walks through what you need, how to sign up and upgrade, and how to troubleshoot a declined payment.
Coinepay issues virtual cards with an instant card number, expiry date and CVV, all managed from a 24/7 self-service dashboard and the Coinepay app. Whether a specific merchant accepts any given card depends on the merchant, so follow the steps below and confirm details before you commit.
Before you start: what you need
- A registered Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. You can create an account and finish verification first, since card services require it.
- A Coinepay virtual card with available balance to cover the first charge plus any taxes or add-ons.
- Your real billing details — name, address and postal code — ready to enter exactly as they appear on your Coinepay profile.
- Access to the Coinepay app to approve any verification prompt during checkout.
Mailchimp excludes people based in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Russia and specified sanctioned regions of Ukraine, as well as prohibited parties; this is not a full country-by-country list. Coinepay likewise does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of comprehensively sanctioned jurisdictions. Use your real identity and real location.
Understand the plans before you pay
Mailchimp's Marketing plans are Free, Essentials, Standard and Premium, plus a separate Pay As You Go option that sells email credits instead of a recurring subscription. Paid plans use contact-count pricing tiers: the plan and your contact limit set the base charge, and exceeding contact or send limits can add costs.
At the time of writing (October 2026), US-dollar starting prices shown on Mailchimp's pricing page were Free at $0/month (up to 250 contacts and 500 sends/month), Essentials at $13/month and Standard at $20/month (each starting at 500 contacts), and Premium at $350/month. Taxes, add-ons, higher contact tiers and offers change the total. Non-USD figures Mailchimp displays are estimates, with conversion applied at payment time, and your billing address and payment method can restrict which currency you can use. Always confirm the current figure on Mailchimp's official pricing page before you buy.
Step 1: Create your Mailchimp account
Go to Mailchimp's website and sign up with an email address and password. You'll activate your account by email and fill in account details. The Free plan does not require a card, so you can set up and explore the account first, then add your Coinepay card when you upgrade.
Step 2: Create or choose a Coinepay virtual card
In the Coinepay app or dashboard, open your virtual cards and use one you've already created or issue a new one. For a recurring subscription like Mailchimp, a dedicated card makes the charge easy to recognise. If you run ad accounts too, Coinepay lets businesses issue a separate card per account with custom spending limits — the same approach keeps your Mailchimp spend separate. Keep the card number, expiry and CVV handy and make sure the balance covers the plan you intend to buy.
Step 3: Upgrade and enter payment in Mailchimp
- Sign in to Mailchimp and click your profile icon.
- Go to Account → Billing → Monthly plans or credits, then select Change Plan.
- Choose your plan (for example Essentials or Standard) and the contact limit you need.
- Select Upgrade Now.
- Enter or confirm your payment information: card number, expiry, CVV, and the billing name, address and postal code.
- Review the total, including any tax or add-ons, then accept to complete the upgrade.
You can update or review these details later under profile icon → Account & billing → Billing → Billing information. Only account Owners and Admins can change billing information.
A note on trials and payment methods
Eligible Essentials and Standard sign-ups may show a 14-day trial. Mailchimp's pricing page describes both a flow that requires payment information up front and a no-card flow limited to 100 email sends until a card is added; which one your account sees can only be confirmed at checkout. If a card is requested, enter your Coinepay card as above.
Mailchimp lists major credit and debit cards plus PayPal, SEPA Direct Debit and iDEAL, and the choices you see depend on your billing address and currency. For card payments, its troubleshooting guide names Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover; it notes American Express supports only USD, EUR, MXN, BRL, GBP, AUD and CAD, and Discover supports only USD. If your card falls under one of these network or currency restrictions, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirement before you buy.
Troubleshooting a declined Mailchimp payment
Mailchimp says a decline notice does not reveal the issuer's exact reason, and a declined monthly payment triggers a billing-contact email plus account warnings. Mailchimp states it immediately suspends sending until the issue is resolved, so fix a failed charge promptly. Work through these common causes:
Insufficient balance or a spending limit
Mailchimp lists reached credit limits and bank-imposed spending limits among failure causes. Check your Coinepay card balance in the app and top up if needed, remembering to allow for taxes and any add-ons that raise the total above the headline price.
Billing address or details mismatch
Mailchimp flags mismatched billing name, address, ZIP/postal code or CVV. Re-enter these so they match exactly what's on your Coinepay profile, with no typos in the postal code or security code.
3-D Secure / verification prompt
If checkout asks for extra confirmation, approve the prompt in the Coinepay app. A transaction can time out if a verification step isn't completed — Mailchimp lists transaction timeouts as a failure cause — so keep the app open while you pay.
Expired card or currency/region checks
Confirm the card hasn't expired. Because Mailchimp's available currencies and payment methods vary by billing address, a currency mismatch can cause a decline. If you've ruled out balance and details, reach out to Coinepay support to check your card, and verify your plan's currency on Mailchimp's side.
Managing your plan after you pay
You can downgrade a paid Marketing plan through Monthly plans or credits; a downgrade takes effect at the next billing cycle, and Mailchimp limits downgrades from a paid plan to Free to once per account lifetime. To close an account permanently, go to Account & billing → Settings → Manage my plan → Delete my account; outstanding balances must be paid first and deletion can't be undone.
On refunds, Mailchimp's terms provide no entitlement to a monthly Paid Marketing Plan refund but allow discretionary exceptions, while an annual Paid Marketing Plan has a 60-day full-refund request window from purchase. Unused Pay As You Go credits are generally not refunded except for a system malfunction. Review the current terms on Mailchimp's own site before relying on any of this.
Keep your card and dashboard in order
Set a reminder for the renewal date so your Coinepay card has enough balance before Mailchimp bills again, and keep your billing contact email current so you receive any decline notice. You can manage everything from the Coinepay dashboard or the mobile app on iOS and Google Play. For account-specific questions, contact Coinepay support or reach the team on Telegram. FAQ
Can I use a Coinepay virtual card for Mailchimp?
You can enter a Coinepay virtual card's number, expiry and CVV at Mailchimp checkout like any card. Whether it is accepted depends on Mailchimp's payment processing, your billing address and currency. Mailchimp's card guide names Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover, with currency limits on Amex and Discover. If a network or currency restriction applies, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirement before buying.
Do I need to add a card to use Mailchimp?
No. The Free Marketing plan does not require a card. You only need to enter payment details when you upgrade to a paid plan such as Essentials, Standard or Premium, or buy Pay As You Go credits. Some eligible Essentials and Standard sign-ups see a 14-day trial, which may or may not request a card up front.
Where do I enter my card to upgrade in Mailchimp?
Click your profile icon, then go to Account → Billing → Monthly plans or credits → Change Plan. Pick a plan and contact limit, select Upgrade Now, and enter or confirm your card and billing details. You can review these later under Account & billing → Billing → Billing information.
Why was my Mailchimp card payment declined?
Mailchimp lists expired cards, reached limits, mismatched billing name, address, ZIP or CVV, transaction timeouts and bank-imposed limits as causes, and says the notice does not reveal the issuer's exact reason. Check your Coinepay balance, re-enter billing details exactly, approve any verification prompt in the Coinepay app, and contact support if it persists.
How much does Mailchimp cost with a Coinepay card?
Pricing uses contact-count tiers and varies by region and currency, and taxes or add-ons change the total. At the time of writing (October 2026), US starting prices were Free $0, Essentials $13/month, Standard $20/month and Premium $350/month. Always check Mailchimp's official pricing page for the current amount before you pay.
