GOG is a DRM-free game store where you buy titles individually and can optionally support the platform with a recurring membership called GOG Patrons. This guide walks through paying for a GOG game and for GOG Patrons using a Coinepay virtual card, from creating your accounts to clearing the most common checkout errors. GOG is an independent store; Coinepay is not affiliated with it, and this article only explains how to use your card there.

What you need before you start

  • A GOG account, which requires a username, email address and password.
  • A Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed, so your virtual card is active. You can register with Coinepay and verify first.
  • Your Coinepay virtual card details: card number, expiry date and CVV, all visible in the Coinepay dashboard or the iOS app or Android app.
  • Enough balance on the card to cover the purchase plus any applicable tax or VAT.
  • The real billing address linked to your card, entered exactly as it appears in Coinepay.

GOG lists Visa, Mastercard and American Express among accepted store cards, alongside methods such as PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and several local options. The methods you see at checkout depend on the country GOG detects from your IP address, so your available options may differ from another region.

GOG prices at a glance

Individual game prices change constantly with sales and by region, so always check the price shown on the product page. For the membership, at the time of writing (October 2026) the GOG Patrons page lists US$5 per month, described as the equivalent of US$5 in local currency and including VAT where applicable; US sales tax may be added at checkout. Exact amounts in EUR, GBP, PLN and other currencies are not confirmed here, so confirm the current figure on GOG's official Patrons page before you subscribe.

GOG Patrons is a way to support the platform, not a subscription that unlocks the games you buy. Games are still purchased separately.

How to buy a GOG game with your Coinepay card

  1. Sign in to your GOG account at gog.com (or open GOG GALAXY).
  2. Find the title you want and select it to add the product to your cart.
  3. Open your cart and proceed to the GOG checkout payment screen.
  4. Choose the card payment option. Enter your Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV.
  5. Enter the billing address that matches your Coinepay account details.
  6. Review the total, including any tax, then confirm the payment. Complete any 3-D Secure confirmation step if prompted.
  7. After a successful purchase, the game appears in your GOG account library, ready to download.

How to pay for GOG Patrons

GOG Patrons renews monthly on your sign-up calendar day, or on the month's last day when that date does not exist. The exact screens on the authenticated Patrons checkout can change, so follow the on-screen prompts, but the flow is:

  1. Sign in and open the GOG Patrons page.
  2. Select Become a Patron.
  3. Choose a payment method on the checkout screen and enter your Coinepay virtual card details.
  4. Confirm the recurring monthly charge and complete any bank confirmation step.

Note that checkout shows the methods supported for your detected country, which are not necessarily every method available for Patrons. GOG confirmed PayPal for new Patrons memberships in 2026, but a complete, current Patrons-only card list is not published. Because recurring billing support can vary by card, it is worth confirming your card works for subscriptions: contact Coinepay support if you are unsure before you subscribe.

As of September 2026, GOG also runs a beta where eligible Patrons earn one GOG Coin for each successfully paid monthly period; GOG says this did not change the membership fee or billing cycle.

Managing, cancelling and refunds

To manage billing or cancel, sign in and go to Orders & Settings → GOG Patrons, then select "Cancel monthly support". These settings are also reachable through GOG GALAXY. Cancelling stops future renewals; your benefits continue until the end of the paid period, but an activated Patrons payment is not refunded just because you cancel mid-period, subject to your applicable legal rights.

For games, GOG's voluntary refund policy allows requests up to 30 days after purchase, even after download or play. Request one through Order History → "Ask for a refund". GOG may refuse individual abusive requests and issues eligible refunds to the original payment method or to GOG Wallet. If a refund goes back to your Coinepay card, you will see it reflected on the card balance.

If a Patrons payment fails, GOG retries it up to two more times; if every attempt fails, the membership and its benefits end. Keeping enough balance on your card avoids this.

Troubleshooting a declined card

GOG points to a few main causes when a payment does not go through. Work through these before trying again.

Mistyped card details

Re-enter the card number, expiry date and CVV carefully, copying them straight from the Coinepay dashboard or app. A single wrong digit will cause a decline.

Insufficient balance

Make sure your Coinepay card has enough to cover the full total, including tax or VAT. Remember that a bank's temporary funds hold is not the same as a completed charge, so a hold may appear even when the purchase did not complete.

Billing address mismatch

The billing address and name you enter at GOG must match the details registered to your Coinepay card. A mismatch is a common reason a verification check fails.

Bank authorization and 3-D Secure

Some GOG shoppers have seen "Something went wrong" followed by "Your payment attempt was declined by your bank because they require your confirmation or additional information from you." This points to an authorization or 3-D Secure confirmation step that was not completed. Watch for a confirmation prompt in your Coinepay app and approve the transaction, then retry.

International and card-type checks

GOG notes that cards which cannot make international transactions, including many US prepaid cards, may be declined. If your payment keeps failing after the steps above, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy again. Do not try to disguise your location or use details that are not your own.

Regional availability

GOG's store payment methods and currencies depend on the country inferred from your IP address; USD is listed as available everywhere, but that does not by itself mean sales are available in every country. GOG has suspended purchases in Russia and Belarus since March 3, 2022, although access to previously purchased items remains. A full country-by-country Patrons availability list is not published, so check GOG's own pages for your region. Always use your real identity, real location and real billing details.

Keeping your card topped up

Because GOG Patrons bills monthly and retries failed payments only a limited number of times, it helps to keep a small buffer on your Coinepay card ahead of each renewal date. You can check your balance and transaction history any time from the 24/7 Coinepay dashboard or mobile app. For broader questions about your card, see the Coinepay site or reach the team via support or Telegram.

FAQ

Does GOG accept virtual cards?

GOG lists Visa, Mastercard and American Express among its accepted store cards and permits valid debit or credit cards. Whether a specific card supports recurring GOG Patrons billing can vary, so contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets GOG's requirements before you subscribe.

How much does GOG Patrons cost?

At the time of writing (October 2026), GOG lists GOG Patrons at US$5 per month, described as the equivalent of US$5 in local currency including VAT where applicable, with US sales tax possibly added. Check GOG's official Patrons page for the current amount in your currency.

Why was my Coinepay card declined at GOG?

Common causes are mistyped card details, insufficient balance, a billing address that does not match your card, an incomplete 3-D Secure or bank confirmation, or a card that cannot make international transactions. Fix these and retry, or contact Coinepay support.

Can I get a refund if I pay with my Coinepay card?

GOG allows game refund requests up to 30 days after purchase via Order History, with eligible refunds going to your original payment method or GOG Wallet. GOG Patrons payments are generally not refunded for mid-period cancellation, subject to your legal rights.

How do I cancel GOG Patrons?

Sign in and go to Orders & Settings → GOG Patrons, then select "Cancel monthly support" (also available through GOG GALAXY). Your benefits continue until the end of the paid period, and no further charges are made to your Coinepay card.
