Steam Wallet is a balance you can add to your Steam account, not a subscription. If a card payment option is available at your checkout, you can try using a Coinepay virtual card to buy Wallet funds. This guide covers account setup, the add-funds flow, and what to check if Steam declines the payment. Card availability and acceptance depend on your account and Steam’s regional checkout rules.
What you need before adding funds
- A Steam account: You will need access to its email address to complete registration and sign in.
- A Coinepay account: Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Coinepay provides your virtual card number, expiry date and CVV in its app or self-service dashboard.
- Enough available funds: Check your card’s available balance and the amount shown at Steam checkout before you submit the payment. Check the Coinepay app for any applicable card or funding details.
- Your real billing details: Have the address and postal code associated with your card ready. Steam may request an address on your first Wallet top-up to establish your Wallet currency.
Steam displays payment methods according to the account’s checkout region. Seeing a card option does not establish that a particular card will be accepted. If you are unsure whether your Coinepay card meets a requirement shown by Steam, contact Coinepay support before you buy.
Create your accounts and check your Steam region
- On Steam’s official account-creation page, enter your email address and country of residence, accept Valve’s terms, and follow the email Steam sends to complete setup. Use your actual country of residence.
- If you have not already done so, register with Coinepay and finish the required identity verification. Open the Coinepay app or dashboard to view your virtual card details and available balance.
- Sign in to Steam and check the country and currency shown for your store and checkout. Steam sets the store country through the first purchase. Make sure the information you provide at checkout accurately reflects your circumstances.
If you have moved countries, Steam says a store-country change requires a payment method from the new country and limits the change option to once every three months. Do not assume your card qualifies for a country change; check Steam’s requirements and contact Coinepay support if you need to confirm a card requirement. Do not use a different address or location merely to obtain another region’s prices or payment options.
Add funds to your Steam Wallet
- Open the add-funds page. In Steam, sign in, select your profile name, open Account Details, then choose +Add funds to your Steam Wallet.
- Choose an amount. Steam presents top-up amounts for your account’s region. At the time of writing (October 2026), the US add-funds page showed $5, $10, $25, $50 and $100, with $5 marked as the minimum; the UK page showed £4, £10, £25, £50 and £100, with £4 marked as the minimum. These are funding amounts, not plans. Check Steam’s official add-funds page for the amounts available to your account before proceeding.
- Select a payment method at checkout. Review the methods Steam offers for your region. If an appropriate card-payment option appears, enter the Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV as displayed in Coinepay. Enter your real billing address and postal code as requested. Do not change them to match a different region.
- Review and submit. Confirm the amount, currency, billing information and order details displayed by Steam. Complete any payment verification you are prompted to perform. Only submit when the details are correct.
- Check the result. After a successful top-up, your Wallet balance appears beside your Steam profile name. You can also open Account Details → View purchase history to inspect the transaction.
Do not repeatedly submit a payment if its status is unclear. First check Steam’s purchase history and your Coinepay activity. If the entries disagree or a charge appears without Wallet funds, gather the transaction details and contact the relevant support team.
Using the balance and understanding Wallet rules
Steam Wallet funds can be used for eligible purchases on Steam. If your Wallet balance does not cover the full price of a purchase, Steam checkout asks for another available payment method for the remainder. The options shown depend on your region; adding funds to your Wallet does not guarantee that a particular payment method will be available for a later purchase.
You do not need to cancel a Wallet top-up: it is a one-time addition, not a recurring subscription. Steam says you can request a refund through Steam Support for unused Wallet funds purchased on Steam within 14 days. Funds already spent do not meet that unused-funds condition. Steam cannot refund through Steam a Wallet card bought from a third-party retailer, and Wallet funds cannot be withdrawn or transferred to another Steam account.
Wallet funding is different from buying a Steam Gift Card. Physical Wallet-code redemption is restricted to the Wallet’s currency. Steam says digital gift cards may be converted into the recipient’s currency, but restrictions on sending or receiving them can apply in some countries and are identified during gift-card checkout. For Japanese subscribers, Steam’s subscriber agreement says unused added Wallet funds expire six months after addition; check your account for the expiry date of each balance.
Troubleshoot a declined Coinepay card payment
Insufficient balance or incorrect card details
Compare the checkout total with your card’s available balance in Coinepay. If the balance is insufficient, resolve that in Coinepay before trying again. Recheck every digit of the card number, the expiry date and the CVV. Steam’s message, “Your purchase has not been completed. Your credit card information has been declined by your credit card company,” can relate to incorrect details, an expired card, issuer limits or a fraud flag. It does not, by itself, identify which cause applies to your payment. If the details and balance look correct, contact Coinepay support with the error and transaction details.
Billing-address mismatch
If Steam reports a decline “due to an incorrect address being entered,” its billing-address verification may have failed. Check that the street address and postal code you entered match the records associated with your card. Correct genuine errors rather than trying alternate or invented addresses. If you do not know which billing details to use, ask Coinepay support before another attempt.
Payment authentication or 3-D Secure
If checkout requests an authentication step, follow the instructions shown for your payment and wait for the result before retrying. Do not assume a missing or failed prompt means Steam accepted the payment. If verification fails, expires or never completes, check whether Steam recorded an order, then share the exact prompt or error with Coinepay support. The verification steps available for a particular transaction may vary.
Store country, currency or merchant checks
Steam may show a Wallet or purchase currency mismatch, and its checkout methods vary by region. Confirm that your Steam store country reflects where you live and that the amount and currency shown are what you intended to buy. If Steam requires a payment method from a specific country, contact Coinepay support to confirm whether your card meets that requirement before you buy. Steam also says transactions initiated through anonymous proxies are declined; use your normal connection and do not try to bypass regional checks.
For an “unexpected error,” check Account Details → View purchase history before submitting again. A failed address or CVV check can leave a temporary payment hold even though Steam says it does not collect that payment. If you see a hold, contact Coinepay support for help understanding its status; for a Steam order or Wallet-credit issue, contact Steam Support. Keep the exact error message and order details handy, but never send your full card number or CVV in a support message.
