You can use a Coinepay virtual card to attempt to pay for a Southwest Airlines flight at checkout. Southwest sells individual tickets, not a recurring flight subscription, so choose a route and fare before entering your card details. Card acceptance is determined at checkout; review the total and your billing information before submitting payment.
What you need before booking
- A Coinepay account and virtual card. Register with Coinepay and complete identity verification before using card services. Your issued virtual card has a card number, expiry date and CVV, available through Coinepay’s self-service dashboard or mobile app.
- Your real passenger and billing details. Enter passenger names as required for travel, and use accurate billing information associated with your payment method. Do not change an address or country to try to bypass a checkout restriction.
- A route and travel dates. Southwest serves selected destinations in North America, Central America and the Caribbean. A route may be seasonal or unavailable for your dates.
- Enough available funds for the final checkout total. Consider the selected fare, any paid options and the amount displayed for payment. Check your available funds in Coinepay before you submit.
Southwest lists several accepted card brands for airfare, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and JCB, but its published payment list does not establish that every virtual card will be accepted. If you need to confirm whether your particular card meets Southwest’s payment requirements, contact Coinepay support before buying. Do not assume acceptance based solely on a brand shown at checkout.
Choose the right Southwest fare
Southwest’s current fare bundles are Basic, Choice, Choice Preferred and Choice Extra. They are ticket options, not monthly plans. For flights under its assigned-seating system, Basic assigns a Standard seat at check-in; Choice lets you select a Standard seat at booking; Choice Preferred includes a Preferred seat; and Choice Extra includes an available Extra Legroom seat and two checked bags. Review the specific flight’s seat availability and fare conditions before paying.
Fares vary by route, date and availability, and an offer can change before booking. At the time of writing (October 2026), Southwest advertised Denver–Los Angeles Basic from USD $79 one-way for November 4, 2026. That was a dated route example, not a standard Basic price or a promise of availability. Check Southwest’s official flight results and pricing information for your actual itinerary.
Do not confuse these fares with Rapid Rewards status: A-List and A-List Preferred are loyalty status tiers, not fare bundles. You may enroll in Rapid Rewards for free if you want an account, but a recurring membership purchase is not required to select one of the four ticket fares.
How to book and pay step by step
- Prepare your card. Sign in to the Coinepay dashboard or app, locate your virtual card details and check the funds available for the purchase. Keep the card information private.
- Search for a flight. On Southwest’s website or app, enter your origin, destination, travel dates and passengers. Review the available flights and their displayed prices.
- Pick a fare and seat. Compare Basic, Choice, Choice Preferred and Choice Extra against your baggage and seating needs. Choose an eligible seat when the selected fare and booking flow allow it; Basic’s Standard-seat assignment occurs at check-in.
- Enter traveler details. Provide each passenger’s correct information. If you use Rapid Rewards, sign in or enroll as directed. Check that the itinerary, names and dates are right before continuing.
- Review the payment total. Look at the fare, applicable extras and final amount shown at checkout. Southwest’s payment rules permit up to three forms of payment per passenger per reservation, but only one credit card per reservation. Do not plan to split a single reservation across multiple cards.
- Enter your Coinepay card details. Where card payment is offered, provide the card number, expiry date, CVV and your real billing details. If an additional authentication step appears, follow the on-screen instructions rather than repeatedly restarting checkout.
- Confirm and save the booking information. Submit payment once, then look for Southwest’s confirmation and reservation details. If the page times out or gives an unclear result, check whether a reservation was created before attempting another purchase.
If you later want to keep a payment method in your Southwest account, its logged-in payment area is reached through Payment; account information is managed under Profile. Saving a card is optional account management, not recurring airfare billing. You can also manage your Coinepay card through its iOS app or Android app.
What to check if the card is declined
A declined or unfinished checkout does not, by itself, identify the cause. One customer-reported Southwest message is “We were unable to complete your purchase. Please verify your selection or choose another method of payment,” accompanied by code 400620414. That report does not establish a universal meaning for the code. Work through these checks instead:
- Insufficient available funds: Compare the funds shown in Coinepay with Southwest’s current final total, not an earlier search result or advertised starting fare. A changed fare or added option can raise the amount due.
- Billing-address mismatch: Recheck the billing name, address and postal code you entered. Use your genuine details; if you are unsure which details should accompany your card, ask Coinepay support before resubmitting.
- Additional authentication or 3-D Secure: If checkout displays a verification challenge, complete it as instructed. If it fails, note the exact screen or message and contact Coinepay support. Do not assume that every Southwest transaction uses the same authentication flow.
- Merchant region or payment checks: Confirm that Southwest offers the itinerary you selected and that the checkout accepts your real billing country and payment method. A route being available does not establish that every card or billing location is eligible. Contact Southwest about a checkout restriction and Coinepay support about your card; do not substitute an inaccurate address.
- Entry or reservation issues: Check the card number, expiry date and CVV, and make sure you have not selected an incorrect payment type. If an error persists, record its wording and code for support. Before retrying, verify whether your first attempt produced a reservation so you do not accidentally book twice.
Southwest also offers certain other airfare payment methods, including eligible flight credits, gift cards and LUV Vouchers. Their availability and combination rules differ; for example, PayPal, Apple Pay, Flex Pay and Klarna cannot be combined with funds from another credit card. Follow the options and restrictions shown for your booking rather than assuming a fallback method can be combined with your virtual card.
Changes, cancellations and refunds
A flight purchase is not a subscription, so there is no monthly Southwest ticket charge to cancel. To cancel most bookings, open Manage Reservations on Southwest’s website or app, retrieve the trip using the confirmation number and name, and select Cancel. Act at least 10 minutes before the original departure to avoid applicable no-show consequences. A round trip containing Basic can have additional restrictions on canceling only part of the itinerary.
Check the fare rules before canceling. For a voluntary cancellation made in time, Basic generally provides a nontransferable flight credit expiring six months from booking; Choice generally provides a transferable credit expiring 12 months from booking. Choice Preferred and Choice Extra may be refunded to the original payment method when canceled in time. An unchanged reservation booked at least seven days before departure has a separate 24-hour cancellation exception for a full refund to the payment method.
Different refund rules can apply if Southwest cancels or significantly changes or delays your flight and you do not travel. If a refund to your payment method is due, Southwest says it makes reasonable efforts to process eligible card refunds within seven business days of determining eligibility; the card issuer may take longer to post the credit. Keep your confirmation and cancellation records, and contact Southwest about the booking or refund decision and Coinepay support if you need help identifying a card transaction.

FAQ
Is Southwest Basic a subscription?
No. Basic is one of Southwest’s flight-ticket fare bundles, alongside Choice, Choice Preferred and Choice Extra.
Can I use two virtual cards for one Southwest reservation?
Southwest permits only one credit card per reservation. Review its checkout rules if you want to combine a card with another eligible form of payment.
Why did Southwest decline my Coinepay virtual card?
The checkout message alone may not identify the cause. Check available funds, card entries, real billing details and any authentication prompt; then share the exact error with Southwest or Coinepay support.
Will a canceled Southwest ticket be refunded to my card?
It depends on the fare, when and why you cancel, and any applicable exception. Review Southwest’s cancellation terms before canceling; some voluntary cancellations result in flight credit instead.
