You can send money to Mexico with Coinepay Global Remittance and choose a payout method that suits your recipient. Before you start, ask how they want to receive the money: into a Mexican bank account, an eligible mobile wallet, or in cash. The details you need depend on that choice.
What you need before sending
Have your Coinepay account ready and complete any required identity verification. Coinepay screens customers and counterparties against sanctions lists, and transfers are subject to local regulations. You may be asked for documents or information about the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds. Use your real identity and give accurate information about your recipient.
Ask for the recipient’s full legal name as it appears on their bank or wallet account, or on the official identification they will use for cash pickup. You will also need the payout details for your chosen method. Confirm those details directly with the recipient before entering them; a small error can prevent a payment from reaching them.
- Bank deposit: Ask for the recipient’s 18-digit CLABE and the name of their bank. The transfer form or receiving bank may also request the recipient’s address. If the payment requires an international bank wire, ask the receiving bank for its exact instructions, including its SWIFT/BIC and any intermediary-bank details.
- Mobile wallet: Ask which wallet the recipient uses and which account identifier it requires, such as the mobile number registered to that wallet. Check that the wallet appears among the payout options in Coinepay before proceeding.
- Cash pickup: Confirm the recipient’s name exactly as shown on their valid official ID. They will need the pickup details and transfer reference provided for the completed transfer.
Choose a payout method for Mexico
Mexico’s local currency is the Mexican peso (MXN). Coinepay supports bank deposit, mobile-wallet and cash-pickup payouts. The options presented for an individual transfer may depend on its destination, recipient and other transfer details, so select from the methods shown in the Coinepay app or dashboard.
Bank deposit: use a Mexican CLABE
For a deposit into a Mexican bank account, the key account identifier is usually the CLABE. It has 18 digits: three identify the financial institution, three identify the location or branch, 11 identify the account, and the final digit is a check digit. Copy the entire number from the recipient’s banking details rather than trying to assemble it yourself. Make sure the account holder’s legal name matches the name you enter.
Mexican bank accounts do not use IBAN. Do not substitute an IBAN, an Indian IFSC code or a US ABA routing number for a Mexican CLABE. A direct international wire may require the Mexican bank’s SWIFT/BIC; in some cases, the bank may also provide intermediary-bank routing instructions. A local MXN payout can ask for different information from a direct SWIFT wire. Follow the fields shown for your transfer and verify any wire instructions with the recipient’s bank.
Before confirming, check that the selected receiving institution is available for the payout shown. If you cannot find the bank or the form does not accept the details you have, do not enter another institution’s information. Ask the recipient to confirm their bank details, then contact Coinepay support if you still need help.
Mobile wallet: check the wallet and account identifier
Mobile-wallet payout lets an eligible recipient receive money through a supported wallet instead of providing bank-account details. Mercado Pago is an example of a wallet used for remittances to Mexico through participating services. If it is offered for your Coinepay transfer, select it specifically as the wallet payout option and enter the recipient details requested on screen. Do not assume that entering a mobile number under a different payout method will route the transfer to their wallet.
Ask the recipient to confirm that their wallet account is active, belongs to them and can receive the selected payout. The required identifier and any recipient-side verification depend on the wallet. If a particular wallet is not displayed in Coinepay, choose another available method rather than treating it as supported for that transfer.
Cash pickup: match the recipient’s ID
Cash pickup can suit someone who prefers to collect funds in person. Enter the recipient’s legal name carefully and confirm the available pickup instructions before sending. Once the transfer is ready for collection, share the reference and pickup information with the named recipient through a secure channel. They should bring a valid official ID whose name matches the transfer and provide the required reference at the pickup location. The payout provider may ask for additional information as part of its checks.
How to send money to Mexico step by step
- Sign in and start a transfer. Open the Coinepay mobile app or 24/7 self-service dashboard. If you are new, register with Coinepay and complete the required identity verification before using the service.
- Choose Mexico and the currency. Select Mexico as the destination and review the sending and receiving currencies offered for your transfer. If the recipient expects pesos, check the amount displayed in MXN.
- Select how the recipient will receive it. Choose bank deposit, an available mobile wallet or cash pickup. Enter the recipient’s real legal name and the details requested for that method, such as a CLABE for a bank deposit.
- Review the transfer. Check the recipient information, destination, payout method and amount. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm. Review what you will pay and what the recipient is expected to receive; if anything looks wrong, go back and correct it first.
- Confirm and track. Confirm only when the information is correct. Keep the transfer reference and follow its status in the Coinepay app or dashboard. For cash pickup, wait for the appropriate status and instructions before telling the recipient to collect the money.
Recipient-side checks to consider
The recipient’s bank, wallet or cash-pickup provider may verify their identity or request information about the payment. A bank deposit must be directed to an account that can receive the chosen payout; a wallet recipient should check their wallet’s incoming-payment instructions; and a cash-pickup recipient needs identification that matches the transfer. Ask the recipient to check with their receiving provider if they are unsure about its requirements.
The reason for receiving money can also matter. For example, a family gift, a loan and payment for work may have different recordkeeping or tax implications in Mexico. Sending money from abroad does not, by itself, determine how the receipt is treated. If either of you has questions about reporting or taxes, seek advice from a qualified local professional and keep accurate records of the transfer’s purpose.
Troubleshooting a Mexico transfer
- The recipient details are wrong: If you notice an incorrect name, CLABE, wallet identifier or pickup detail after confirmation, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly. Do not assume you can edit a transfer that is already processing. An incorrect CLABE or name can lead to rejection or a returned payment.
- The transfer is under review: Identity, sanctions, security and other compliance checks can require further information. Respond through Coinepay’s official channels and provide any requested documents about the recipient, purpose or source of funds. Do not try to bypass a review by changing the recipient or splitting a payment.
- The recipient has not received it: Check status tracking first. Funding, currency conversion, receiving-provider processing, weekends and bank holidays can affect progress. Ask the recipient to check the correct bank account or wallet, or the pickup instructions, as applicable. If the status and the recipient’s experience do not match, contact support with the transfer reference.
- The transfer was returned: A receiving institution may reject a payment because of incorrect details or its own requirements, even when the details appear correct. Review the status and any explanation provided, then ask support what to do next. Verify the recipient’s information with their receiving provider before starting another transfer.
