Slack is a team messaging and collaboration workspace, and paid plans unlock unlimited message history, more integrations and admin controls. If you want to upgrade a free workspace to a paid plan, this guide walks through what you need, how checkout works, and how to pay with a Coinepay virtual card. It also covers the most common reasons a card is declined at the Slack billing page.
What you need before you start
- A Slack workspace where you are a Workspace Owner or a member allowed to make purchases. By default any member can upgrade a free workspace, but an owner can restrict purchases to Workspace Owners.
- A registered Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. You must finish verification before your virtual card can be used.
- A Coinepay virtual card with its card number, expiry date and CVV, which you can view in the Coinepay app or dashboard, plus enough available balance to cover the charge.
- Your real billing details — the name, address and country associated with the card — because Slack verifies the billing address.
If you don't have a card yet, you can register with Coinepay and create a virtual card from the dashboard or the iOS app or Android app.
Slack plans and pricing
Slack's current public plans are Free, Pro, Business+ and Enterprise+. Free is listed at US$0. At the time of writing (October 2026), on Slack's US pricing page, Pro is US$8.75 per active user per month billed monthly (or US$7.25 per user per month billed annually), and Business+ is US$18 per active user per month billed monthly (or US$15 per user per month billed annually). Enterprise+ requires contacting Slack sales.
Prices vary by region and currency, and website prices exclude any applicable sales tax or VAT. Slack supports billing in GBP, EUR, INR, JPY and USD, and your workspace location determines the initial billing currency. Always confirm the current figure on Slack's official pricing page (slack.com/pricing) before you buy, since plans and prices change.
Slack's displayed 50%-off promotion applies only to eligible online Pro or Business+ purchases made within seven days of creating a team, for the first three months, and does not apply to annual plans.
Step 1: Create or sign in to your workspace
To create a workspace on desktop, enter an email address (or continue with Apple or Google), verify the emailed code, then follow the workspace-creation prompts. If you already have a workspace, just sign in as an owner or a member who is allowed to purchase.
Step 2: Add your Coinepay card details
Open the Coinepay app or dashboard and view the virtual card you want to use. Note the card number, expiry date and CVV, and make sure the available balance covers the first charge plus any tax. Keep the billing name, address and country handy so they match what you enter at Slack.
Step 3: Start the upgrade at Slack checkout
- Go to my.slack.com/plans.
- Select Upgrade Now on the plan you want (Pro or Business+).
- Enter your organization and payment details. Choose monthly or annual billing.
- Enter your Coinepay card number, expiry and CVV, and type the billing address exactly as it appears on your Coinepay account.
- Select Review Order to check the amount and currency.
- Select Purchase to complete the payment.
Slack accepts payment by credit card for monthly or annual Pro and Business+ plans. Accepted card brands in the US and Canada are American Express, Diners, Discover, JCB, Maestro, Mastercard and Visa; outside those countries Slack lists the same brands except Diners and Discover. US workspaces can also connect a US bank account for ACH at checkout, and Apple Pay is gradually rolling out for US- and Canada-based workspaces. If you are unsure your Coinepay card meets a brand or region requirement, contact Coinepay support to confirm before you buy.
Step 4: Confirm and keep your records
After purchase, you can manage everything on desktop under Admin → Manage billing. The Billing Details section holds your saved payment methods, and the History section holds your statements. Download a statement there if you need a record of the transaction, and check that the charge amount in your Coinepay app matches your Slack statement.
Troubleshooting a declined or failed card
Slack's failed-payments article notes that payments can fail for several reasons without listing each one. If payment stays unsuccessful, Slack sends reminders and downgrades the workspace to Free after 28 days. Below are the common causes and what to do.
Insufficient balance
A virtual card needs enough available funds for the full charge, including any sales tax or VAT and the first billing period for annual plans. Top up your Coinepay card in the app, then retry Purchase. Watch out for currency: if Slack bills in a currency different from your card, the converted amount may be slightly higher than the sticker price.
"Address can't be verified"
Slack lists address formatting as a cause of this error. Re-enter the billing address exactly as it appears on your Coinepay account, using the correct country and postal/ZIP code and avoiding extra characters. A page stuck loading can be caused by a duplicate transaction, so avoid submitting twice.
3-D Secure / two-factor authentication
An EU card purchase may require bank-administered two-factor authentication (Strong Customer Authentication). If a verification step appears, complete it. If authentication or payment fails, Slack advises retrying, trying another card, or contacting your card provider — for a Coinepay card, confirm the verification method in the Coinepay app and reach out to Coinepay support if the step does not complete.
"Browser not supported" or "Something's gone wrong"
Slack lists an outdated browser as the cause of "Browser not supported" — update your browser or try another. "Something's gone wrong" when adding a payment method was linked to a January 14, 2026 incident that Slack says is resolved; if you see it, wait and retry or check Slack's status page.
Merchant region checks
Slack says sanctions or export restrictions may prevent account creation or service access; its agreement names Crimea, Luhansk, Donetsk, Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Syria as restricted locations. Coinepay also screens customers against sanctions lists and does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of comprehensively sanctioned jurisdictions. Use your real identity and billing details — do not attempt to bypass any regional check.
Billing, cancellation and refunds
Slack bills self-serve paid workspaces for active members under its Fair Billing Policy; when an eligible member becomes inactive, you receive a prorated account credit rather than a cash refund. To cancel a self-serve paid plan, go to Admin → Manage billing → Overview → Change plan details → Downgrade to Free, choose an immediate change or the next renewal date, and confirm. Paid fees are generally non-refundable under Salesforce's applicable Main Services Agreement, and Slack credits for unused paid time are non-transferable and expire when the plan terminates. Cancelling on Slack does not stop your Coinepay card — manage the card separately in the Coinepay app.

FAQ
Which Slack plans can I pay for with a Coinepay virtual card?
You can pay for self-serve Pro and Business+ plans by card, on monthly or annual billing. The Free plan is US$0, and Enterprise+ requires contacting Slack sales. Check slack.com/pricing for current prices, which vary by region and exclude tax or VAT.
Where do I enter my card details in Slack?
Go to my.slack.com/plans, select Upgrade Now, then enter your organization and payment details. Type your Coinepay card number, expiry and CVV, select Review Order, then Purchase. You can later view saved methods under Admin → Manage billing → Billing Details.
Why was my card declined at Slack checkout?
Common causes are insufficient card balance, a billing address that doesn't match your card account ("Address can't be verified"), an incomplete two-factor/3-D Secure step, or an outdated browser ("Browser not supported"). Fix the specific cause and retry, or contact Coinepay support.
Does Slack accept my card brand?
In the US and Canada, Slack accepts American Express, Diners, Discover, JCB, Maestro, Mastercard and Visa; elsewhere it lists the same brands except Diners and Discover. If you're unsure your Coinepay card meets a brand or region requirement, contact Coinepay support before buying.
Can I get a refund if I cancel my paid Slack plan?
Paid fees are generally non-refundable under the applicable Salesforce Main Services Agreement. You can downgrade to Free via Admin → Manage billing, and unused time may become a non-transferable account credit rather than a cash refund.
