Minecraft's recurring subscriptions — Realms, Realms Plus and Marketplace Pass — renew automatically and need a valid payment method on file. If you want to keep your gaming spending on one card you control, a Coinepay virtual card gives you an instant card number, expiry date and CVV you can add at checkout. This guide walks through what you need, how the Minecraft sign-up and billing flow works, and how to troubleshoot a card that gets declined.

Note that whether any particular store or merchant accepts a given card depends on the merchant. If you are unsure, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirements before you subscribe.

What you need before you start

  • A Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. You can register here and manage everything from the dashboard or the Coinepay app on iOS and Google Play.
  • A Coinepay virtual card issued in your account, with enough balance to cover the recurring price plus any renewals.
  • A Microsoft account with an Xbox Live profile, which Minecraft Realms requires. Xbox Live profile provisioning can be restricted in some countries.
  • Minecraft installed on a compatible platform. Bedrock Realms and Marketplace Pass run on Bedrock platforms; Java Realms runs in Java on Windows, macOS and Linux.
  • Your real billing details — use your actual name and address so they match what your card issuer holds on file.

Minecraft subscriptions and prices

These are Minecraft's consumer subscriptions, separate from buying the game itself, Minecoins or console-network memberships. At the time of writing (October 2026), the US pages list these recurring monthly prices:

SubscriptionUS price/monthWhat it includes
Realms (Bedrock)US$3.99One Realm, subscriber plus two simultaneous players
Realms Plus (Bedrock)US$7.99One Realm, subscriber plus ten players, Marketplace Pass catalog included
Realms (Java)US$7.99One Realm, subscriber plus ten players; does not include Marketplace Pass
Marketplace PassUS$3.99Rotating Bedrock Marketplace catalog; no Realm included

Prices vary by region and by the platform store you buy through. Local prices for Marketplace Pass and Java Realms outside the US were not confirmed at the time of writing, so always check the price shown at your own checkout on the official Minecraft site or your platform store before you confirm.

How to subscribe to Bedrock Realms

  1. Open Minecraft and choose Play → Create New → Create New World → Create on Realms.
  2. Select the Realm size you want (this determines whether you get Realms or Realms Plus) and accept the terms.
  3. Select the displayed monthly price. Your platform store — for example the Microsoft Store on PC — then completes the checkout.
  4. When the store asks for a payment method, add your Coinepay virtual card by entering its number, expiry date and CVV, along with your real billing address.
  5. Confirm the purchase. Minecraft describes a 30-day trial for eligible users; if you start one, the subscription renews automatically unless you cancel.

Because billing is handled by the platform account you subscribe with, your card lives in that store's wallet rather than inside Minecraft itself.

How to subscribe to Marketplace Pass

Marketplace Pass starts through the Bedrock game or launcher menus, even if you begin from its website — a PC opening the website still needs Bedrock installed. It requires a compatible Bedrock build with Marketplace, is not available for Java, and cannot be newly subscribed to on Amazon devices. If you already have Realms Plus, you cannot add Marketplace Pass because its catalog is already included; and if you upgrade from Marketplace Pass to Realms Plus, cancel the Pass separately to avoid overlapping charges.

Where to manage and update your card

On Bedrock, open Minecraft → Settings → Subscriptions to see your Realm and the time until its next payment. Billing itself is managed by the platform account that started the subscription:

  • PC Realms: in the purchasing Microsoft account, open Subscriptions → Manage for the Realm, then Change beside its payment method to swap in your Coinepay card.
  • Console Realms: update payment through the originating console's payment settings.
  • Java Realms: managed through the Microsoft account.

Note that Microsoft gift-card balance cannot be used here — Microsoft says gift cards buy only Xbox subscriptions, not Realms or Marketplace Pass. That is one reason a dedicated card like Coinepay's is convenient for these recurring charges.

Troubleshooting a declined card

Minecraft and Microsoft document several reasons a Realms purchase can fail. Work through these before trying again.

Insufficient balance

Insufficient funds is a documented decline reason. Confirm your Coinepay card holds enough to cover the subscription price and any pending authorization, then top up in the Coinepay app if needed and retry.

Billing address mismatch

Mismatched billing details can block a purchase. Make sure the name and address in the platform store match exactly what is on your Coinepay account. Correct any typos and re-enter the card if necessary.

3-D Secure and confirmation windows

Microsoft lists blocked payment-confirmation windows as a cause of failure. If a verification screen appears, complete it rather than closing it. Check the Coinepay app for any confirmation prompt tied to the payment.

Region and card checks

A card issued in another country, a store set to a different region, travel, or a card not enabled for international purchases can all cause a decline. Use your real identity and the correct store region for where you live — do not use a VPN or false address to work around these checks, as that can break the purchase and violate the store's terms. If you need to confirm your Coinepay card is suitable for the store you are buying from, contact support first.

Account and app issues

An expired or inactive payment method, a bank or provider block, overdue subscription payments or a suspended account can also stop checkout. Microsoft's message "Unable to complete this transaction. Please update to the latest version of Microsoft Store" means you should update the app or device. Separately, Marketplace error codes beginning with B-, D-, F-, L-, P- or S- are sign-in or server-connection errors while shopping, not card declines, so they usually need a reconnect or sign-in rather than a payment fix.

Cancellations and refunds

Bedrock subscriptions are canceled through the platform account that started them — on that device, Settings → Subscriptions → Cancel redirects to its store to stop future payments. Java Realms are canceled through the Microsoft account. Realms subscriptions are not typically eligible for full or partial refunds, though Minecraft Support says a refund may be possible if it cannot fix an access problem caused by Minecraft. Game-purchase refunds follow the selling store's policy, not Coinepay's.

A note on availability

Coinepay services related to virtual assets are not available to residents of mainland China, and some services are not available in every jurisdiction. Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions. Check the Coinepay app for your card's current details and limits, and keep enough balance for renewals so your Realm does not lapse.

FAQ

Can I use a Coinepay virtual card for Minecraft Realms?

You can add a Coinepay virtual card's number, expiry and CVV as the payment method in the platform store you subscribe through, such as the Microsoft Store. Whether a specific store accepts a given card depends on the merchant, so contact Coinepay support to confirm your card is suitable before you buy.

Where do I update the card used for my Realms subscription?

On Bedrock, view status under Minecraft → Settings → Subscriptions, but change the card in the account that started the subscription. For PC Realms, open Subscriptions → Manage in your Microsoft account, then Change beside the payment method. Console subscriptions use the console's payment settings.

Why was my card declined at Minecraft checkout?

Common documented reasons include insufficient funds, mismatched billing details, an expired or blocked method, an uncompleted confirmation window, or regional checks such as a card not enabled for international use. Fix the cause in the Coinepay app or store settings and retry.

Can I pay for Marketplace Pass with Microsoft gift-card balance instead?

No. Microsoft states gift-card balance can be used only for Xbox subscriptions, not for Realms or Marketplace Pass. You need a card or another supported method, which is why a dedicated virtual card is convenient for these recurring charges.

How much does a Minecraft subscription cost?

At the time of writing (October 2026), US prices were US$3.99/month for Bedrock Realms and Marketplace Pass, and US$7.99/month for Realms Plus and Java Realms. Prices vary by region and platform, so check the price shown at your own checkout on the official Minecraft site.
