Whether you are joining the paid Skywards+ programme or booking an Emirates flight, you can keep your travel spending in one place by paying with a Coinepay virtual card. This guide walks through what you need, how to create and fund a card, how checkout works on emirates.com, and what to try if a payment is declined. Because Emirates shows the exact price and available payment options only once you are logged in and at checkout, always confirm the current figures on the official Emirates pages before you pay.
What you are paying for
Emirates has two separate things you might pay for:
- Emirates Skywards+ — a paid subscription that sits on top of the free Emirates Skywards loyalty programme. Skywards+ is sold in three packages named Classic, Advanced and Premium. These are different from the free Skywards status tiers Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
- Flight tickets — one-off purchases paid at the normal booking checkout.
At the Skywards+ launch (August 2021) Emirates published US prices of USD 399/year for Classic, USD 699/year for Advanced and USD 999/year for Premium. Those figures are from the launch announcement and are not confirmed as the live checkout prices today, and prices in other markets vary. The applicable fee is shown during the logged-in subscription process, so treat the official Skywards+ page as the source of truth.
What you need before you start
- An Emirates Skywards account, and for Skywards+ you must be 18 or older.
- A Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. You can register with Coinepay and finish verification before creating a card.
- A Coinepay virtual card with its card number, expiry date and CVV, which you can view in the Coinepay dashboard or app once issued.
- Enough balance on the card to cover the full charge, plus the real billing details (name and billing address) linked to your Coinepay account.
Always use your real identity and real billing address. Emirates checks your details during payment, and mismatched information is a common cause of declines.
Step 1: Create and fund your Coinepay virtual card
- Sign in to the Coinepay dashboard or open the app for iOS or Android.
- Complete KYC if you have not already. Card services require it.
- Issue a virtual card. Coinepay generates the card number, expiry and CVV instantly.
- Load enough balance to cover the Emirates charge in full. For an annual Skywards+ package this is a single larger payment, so make sure the balance is sufficient before checkout.
If you travel often, you can keep a dedicated card just for Emirates so the charges are easy to spot in your transaction history.
Step 2: Pay for a Skywards+ subscription
- Go to emirates.com and log in to your Emirates Skywards account.
- Open the Skywards+ section and choose your package: Classic, Advanced or Premium.
- Review the fee shown during the logged-in subscription flow and confirm it against the official Skywards+ page.
- On the payment page, enter your Coinepay card number, expiry date and CVV, and the billing name and address linked to your Coinepay account.
- Complete any identity or 3-D Secure check if prompted, then submit.
After a successful payment, Emirates emails a confirmation and receipt. Activation can take up to 48 hours, so do not re-submit the payment if your benefits do not appear immediately. Note two important policies: a Skywards+ subscription cannot be cancelled, paused, transferred or refunded, and unused benefits are not refunded or credited. The subscription does not auto-renew, so you will not be charged again automatically.
Emirates does not publicly list which card networks or methods are accepted specifically for Skywards+, so the options you see at the subscription checkout may differ from the flight-booking list. If your Coinepay card is not accepted there, pay for it another way and contact Coinepay support with any questions.
Step 3: Pay for an Emirates flight
- Search and select your flights on emirates.com or in the Emirates app and continue to the payment page.
- Choose the card option. For flight bookings Emirates lists Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club and American Express credit cards; depending on your departure country and timing, you may also see debit cards, PayPal, bank transfer and Western Union.
- Enter your Coinepay card details and the matching billing information.
- Complete 3-D Secure if prompted and confirm the booking.
Emirates states that some card types are unavailable in some departure countries, and the checkout shows the options available for your journey. This is a merchant restriction, not something any single card is guaranteed to satisfy. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets this requirement before you buy, and check that the card option you need appears at the Emirates checkout for your departure country.
Troubleshooting common card declines
Insufficient balance
An annual Skywards+ package or a full-fare ticket can be a large single charge. Confirm your Coinepay balance covers the entire amount shown at checkout, including any taxes or fees Emirates adds, before you submit.
Billing address mismatch
The billing name and address you type at Emirates must match the details registered with your Coinepay card. Open the Coinepay app, copy the exact billing information, and re-enter it carefully if a payment fails.
3-D Secure / security password
For flight bookings, Emirates notes that a missing or incorrect card-security password can stop a payment. Make sure you can complete the verification step Coinepay sends (for example an in-app approval or one-time code) and that notifications are enabled so you do not miss the prompt.
Card type not available in your departure country
For flights, an unavailable card type in a particular departure country, or a debit card not enabled for internet payments, can block a charge. If the option you expect is not shown, try a different accepted method and confirm your card eligibility with Coinepay support first.
Merchant region and currency checks
Emirates recently added region-specific flight-payment options — Crypto.com Pay for eligible UAE residents paying in AED (from July 2026), and a split-payment option in Kenya (from February 2026) — but these are tied to specific markets and are not confirmed for the Skywards+ subscription. The safest approach is to use the standard card checkout and the methods Emirates actually displays for your account and country.
After you pay
Keep the Emirates confirmation email and receipt for your records. Your Skywards account displays your subscription details and benefits once Skywards+ is active. In Coinepay, you can review the charge in your transaction history in the dashboard or app at any time, since the account is self-service 24/7.
If a payment keeps failing after you have checked balance, billing details and verification, reach out through Coinepay support or our Telegram channel. FAQ
What is the difference between Skywards+ and the free Skywards tiers?
Emirates Skywards is the free loyalty programme with the tiers Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Skywards+ is a separate paid subscription sold in three packages — Classic, Advanced and Premium — that you buy while logged in to your Skywards account.
How much does Skywards+ cost and can I pay with a Coinepay card?
Emirates shows the applicable fee during the logged-in subscription process, and prices vary by market, so check the official Skywards+ page for current figures. Emirates does not publicly confirm which methods it accepts for Skywards+, so enter your Coinepay card details at checkout and, if it is not accepted, contact Coinepay support.
Why was my Coinepay card declined at Emirates checkout?
Common causes are insufficient card balance, a billing address that does not match your Coinepay details, an incomplete 3-D Secure or security-password step, or a card type that is not available in your departure country. Check each of these and retry, or contact Coinepay support.
Can I cancel or get a refund on Skywards+?
No. Emirates states that a Skywards+ subscription cannot be cancelled, paused, transferred or refunded, and unused benefits are not refunded or credited. It does not auto-renew, so you will not be charged again automatically.
How long does it take for Skywards+ to activate after payment?
Emirates emails a confirmation and receipt after a successful payment, and says activation can take up to 48 hours. Do not re-submit the payment during this time; check your Skywards account for the benefits to appear.
