You can send money from the United Arab Emirates to Sri Lanka with Coinepay Global Remittance. Before starting, ask your recipient how they want to receive the money and collect the details for that payout method. This guide covers bank deposit, mobile wallet and cash pickup, along with the checks to make before you confirm.
What you need before sending
Sign in to your Coinepay account and complete any required identity verification. If you are new to Coinepay, register here. Transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may ask for documents or information about the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds.
Get the recipient’s full legal name exactly as it appears on their bank account, wallet registration or identity document, depending on how they will receive the money. Use your own real identity and accurate details for the transfer. If you are sending to a business, obtain the business’s registered name and the payment details it has provided.
Ask the recipient to confirm their payout information rather than copying it from an old transfer. The information you need differs by method:
- Bank deposit: The recipient’s bank-recorded name, bank name, branch details and full account number. The transfer form may also ask for a bank or branch code, recipient address or transfer purpose.
- Mobile wallet: The recipient’s registered name and wallet-linked mobile number, plus the wallet provider if the option appears for your transfer.
- Cash pickup: The recipient’s name as shown on a valid photo ID and any other details requested when you select a pickup location or provider.
Sri Lanka’s local currency is the Sri Lankan rupee (LKR). Check the destination currency and the recipient’s preferred way to receive funds before proceeding. If the recipient wants funds credited to a foreign-currency account instead, ask their bank what account details and receipt rules apply, and check whether that payout option is offered for your transfer.
How to send money from the UAE to Sri Lanka
- Open Global Remittance. Sign in through the Coinepay mobile app or 24/7 self-service dashboard and start a transfer. Select Sri Lanka as the destination and enter the amount you want to send.
- Choose the currency and payout method. Review the currencies and methods offered for this transfer. If the recipient expects rupees, select LKR where available. Choose bank deposit, a listed mobile wallet or cash pickup according to the recipient’s preference.
- Enter the recipient’s details. Fill in the fields shown for the selected method. Check the spelling of the legal name, account number or wallet-linked phone number. Provide the transfer purpose and any other requested information accurately.
- Review before confirming. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and fees before you confirm the transfer. Check the send amount, destination, recipient details, payout method and amount the recipient is expected to receive. If anything is wrong, go back and correct it before confirming.
- Confirm and track. Confirm the transfer only after reviewing the details. You can then follow its status in the Coinepay app or dashboard. Keep the transfer reference available in case you or the recipient needs help.
The options displayed in the app are the ones to use for your particular transfer. If a preferred payout method does not appear, do not enter another method’s details into the form. Choose an available option that works for the recipient or contact Coinepay support.
Bank deposit: account numbers and bank codes
For a Sri Lankan bank deposit, use the full account number supplied by the recipient’s bank, together with the bank name and branch information requested in the transfer form. Sri Lankan account-number length can vary by bank; do not shorten a number or add digits to make it match an example. Ask the recipient to check the number against their bank’s records.
Sri Lanka does not have a national IBAN format listed in Swift’s September 2026 IBAN registry. A UAE IBAN is not a substitute for the Sri Lankan recipient’s account number. If the payout form requests a local bank or branch code, get the correct code from the recipient or their bank rather than guessing.
A SWIFT/BIC may be needed for an international bank-wire route; obtain it from the receiving bank if the form asks for one. It is not interchangeable with a local bank code. For example, People’s Bank publishes PSBKLKLX as its SWIFT/BIC, but that example should only be used when the recipient’s bank confirms it is appropriate for the particular account and transfer. Follow the fields shown for your selected Coinepay payout route rather than assuming every bank deposit requires a SWIFT/BIC.
The recipient should check with their bank if the account has restrictions on incoming payments, if a branch detail is unclear or if they expect a foreign-currency credit. A bank may ask the recipient for information about an incoming transfer before making funds available.
Mobile wallet and cash pickup
Mobile wallet
Coinepay supports mobile-wallet payouts as a remittance method. To use one for this UAE-to-Sri Lanka transfer, select a Sri Lankan wallet displayed in the Coinepay transfer flow. Enter the recipient’s registered name and the mobile number linked to that wallet, following the on-screen instructions. Ask the recipient to confirm that the wallet is active and can receive the type of payment shown.
eZ Cash and mCash are local mobile-wallet services in Sri Lanka. Their existence does not mean that either will appear as a payout option for every UAE-origin transfer. Check the available wallet choices in the app before promising the recipient a wallet payout. If their wallet is not listed, consider an available bank-deposit or cash-pickup option instead.
Cash pickup
For cash pickup, choose an available pickup option and provide the recipient’s legal name exactly as it appears on their valid photo ID. After confirmation, share the transfer reference and pickup instructions with the recipient through a secure channel. They should check which participating agent or bank branch can handle the pickup and bring the identification and reference requested by that location. A recipient who has not completed the required pickup steps may not yet have collected an otherwise available transfer.
Recipient-side checks in Sri Lanka
Tell the recipient which payout method you selected and what name and details you entered. For a bank deposit, they should monitor the correct account and ask their bank about an incoming credit if needed. For a wallet payout, they should check the registered wallet and any notification from its provider. For cash pickup, they should follow the pickup instructions rather than visiting an unrelated location.
Incoming transfers can be subject to bank, wallet-provider or pickup-agent checks under local rules. The recipient may be asked to verify their identity or explain the payment. A qualifying inward remittance may be receivable into a personal foreign-currency account under Sri Lankan rules, but that does not mean every payout method or account can receive a foreign-currency credit. Confirm the available currency in Coinepay and any account-specific requirements with the recipient’s bank.
Troubleshooting a transfer
- Wrong recipient details: If you spot an incorrect name, account number, bank detail or mobile number before confirming, correct it. If you have already confirmed, contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer reference. Do not assume a submitted transfer can be edited or recalled; an incorrect bank detail can lead to rejection and return.
- Compliance review: If the status indicates that more information is needed, respond through the requested channel with accurate documents. Identity, sanctions, source-of-funds, purpose-of-payment and other regulatory checks can pause processing. Do not send another transfer to avoid a review.
- Transfer not yet received: Check its status in the app or dashboard and confirm that the recipient is checking the correct account, wallet or pickup location. Bank processing hours, weekends, public holidays, time-zone differences and recipient action may affect when funds become available.
- Returned transfer: Check the status and contact support for the reason and next steps. Before making a new transfer, ask the recipient to verify their bank-recorded name, account and branch details, or choose another payout method that is offered.
Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions. For help with a transfer or the details requested on your screen, use Coinepay support and provide your transfer reference without sharing sensitive account information publicly.
