Coinepay Global Remittance lets you send cross-border transfers to Sweden from your verified account. Whether you are supporting family, paying a freelancer or settling with a supplier, this guide walks through what you need, how to choose a payout method, and how to review the rate and fees before you confirm. Sweden's local currency is the Swedish krona (SEK), so most recipients receive funds in SEK into a Swedish bank account.
Before you start: what the sender needs
To send money to Sweden you need a Coinepay account with identity verification (KYC) completed. You can manage everything from the Coinepay dashboard or the mobile app for iOS and Android. If you have not registered yet, you can create an account first.
You will also need accurate details for the person or business receiving the money. Collect these directly from the recipient and enter them exactly as their bank records them:
- Recipient's full legal name as it appears on their bank account.
- Recipient's address — banks may require this for an incoming international payment.
- The payout details for the method you choose (see below).
All transfers are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Coinepay may ask about the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds, so it helps to have that information ready.
Swedish bank account details explained
For a bank deposit in Sweden, the recipient normally provides two things:
- IBAN — a Swedish IBAN has 24 characters: the country code SE, two check digits and 20 further digits. The account holder can obtain their IBAN from their own bank.
- BIC / SWIFT code — the recipient's bank identifier for international payments.
Using the correct IBAN together with the bank's BIC/SWIFT is the most reliable way to route an incoming payment and reduces the risk of delay. Major Swedish banks include Nordea, SEB, Handelsbanken and Swedbank.
A couple of important points specific to Sweden:
- Bankgiro and PlusGiro are not for international receipts. These domestic account-reference systems cannot receive payments from abroad, so ask the recipient for their ordinary bank account IBAN and BIC rather than a BankGiro or PlusGiro number.
- For euro payments routed through SEPA a BIC may not be mandatory, but for other routes it is safest to supply the IBAN and BIC. Swedish bank accounts use the IBAN and BIC format rather than a separate branch or routing code.
Choosing a payout method
Coinepay supports common local payout methods, and the options available for Sweden are shown when you set up the transfer. The main choices to understand are:
Bank account deposit
This is the standard way to send money to Sweden. The funds are paid into the recipient's Swedish bank account using their IBAN and bank BIC/SWIFT, converted to Swedish krona where applicable. Make sure the account holder name you enter matches the name on the account exactly.
Mobile wallet
Across Coinepay's network, local mobile wallets are supported where available. In Sweden the best-known domestic payment app is linked to a mobile number and a bank account. Availability of a wallet payout for a transfer to Sweden depends on the current network, so check which methods appear in the app when you enter Sweden as the destination; if wallet payout is offered, you will be told exactly what recipient detail to provide (typically the registered mobile number).
Cash pickup
Cash pickup is offered on many Coinepay routes. Whether it is available for a specific transfer to Sweden is shown in the app at the time you create the transfer. If it is offered, the recipient usually needs valid government-issued identification and a reference number to collect the funds.
If you are not sure which payout method to use, select bank deposit and enter the recipient's IBAN and BIC — it is the most widely accepted route into Sweden.
Step by step: sending the transfer
- Sign in and start a transfer. Open the Coinepay app or dashboard and choose the option to send money.
- Choose Sweden as the destination and set the currency. Select Sweden and, in most cases, Swedish krona (SEK) as the payout currency.
- Select the payout method. Pick bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup from the methods shown for Sweden.
- Enter the recipient's details. Add the full legal name and the payout details for your chosen method — for a bank deposit, the IBAN and BIC/SWIFT, plus the recipient's address if requested. Double-check every character.
- Review the exchange rate and fees. Coinepay shows the exchange rate and any fees clearly before you confirm, along with the amount the recipient should receive. Review these carefully.
- Provide any required information. You may be asked for the purpose of the transfer or supporting documents as part of compliance checks.
- Confirm and fund the transfer. Once you confirm, the transfer is submitted for processing.
- Track the status. Every transfer has status tracking in the app, so you can follow it from submitted through to paid out.
What the recipient should know
When the money lands, a few Sweden-specific considerations may apply:
- Due-diligence questions. Swedish banks can ask the recipient where deposited money comes from as part of standard customer checks. Being able to explain the purpose of the payment helps it clear smoothly.
- Provider reporting. The payment intermediary (generally a bank or payment-service provider) must report qualifying payments over SEK 150,000 from abroad to Sweden's Tax Agency. This is a reporting duty on the provider, not a restriction on receiving larger amounts.
- Tax on income. If a receipt is taxable income in Sweden, the recipient must declare it in Swedish kronor. Whether a particular payment is taxable depends on what it represents — the recipient should check their own situation with Skatteverket or a tax adviser.
Troubleshooting
Wrong recipient details
An incorrect recipient name or account number can cause the receiving bank to reject and return the transfer. Before you confirm, verify the IBAN, the BIC/SWIFT and the spelling of the name against what the recipient's bank shows. If you spot a mistake after submitting, contact Coinepay support as soon as possible.
Compliance review
Transfers are screened against sanctions lists and may be reviewed for compliance. Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions; Sweden is not one of them, so ordinary transfers to Sweden are supported. If you are asked for documents such as proof of the purpose or source of funds, respond promptly to avoid holding up the payment.
Delays
Weekends, public holidays, slower funding methods and security checks can all push back arrival. Missing or incorrect account information can also delay an incoming payment, which is why supplying the correct IBAN and BIC matters. Use the status tracker to see where your transfer is.
Returned or refused transfers
A receiving bank may reject a payment even when the details look correct, or refuse receipt if required identity information is not supplied. Attempting to pay a Bankgiro or PlusGiro reference instead of a bank account can also cause a return. If a transfer comes back, check the recipient details, ask the recipient to confirm their bank can accept an international deposit, and contact Coinepay support for help.

FAQ
What details do I need to send money to a bank account in Sweden?
You need the recipient's full legal name and their Swedish IBAN (24 characters starting with SE) together with their bank's BIC/SWIFT code. Some payments also require the recipient's address. Enter everything exactly as the recipient's bank records it.
Can I send money to a Bankgiro or PlusGiro number?
No. Bankgiro and PlusGiro cannot receive payments from abroad. Ask the recipient for their ordinary bank account IBAN and BIC/SWIFT instead, and use the bank deposit payout method.
What payout methods can I choose for Sweden?
Bank account deposit using the IBAN and BIC is the standard route. Mobile wallet and cash pickup are supported on parts of Coinepay's network; the options actually available for Sweden are shown in the app when you select Sweden as the destination.
How do I know the exchange rate and fees before sending?
Coinepay shows the exchange rate, any fees and the amount the recipient will receive on the review screen before you confirm. Rates and fees are not fixed here, so always check them in the app at the time you send.
Why might my transfer to Sweden be delayed or returned?
Common causes are an incorrect recipient name or account number, missing identity information, bank holidays or weekends, and security or compliance checks. Using the correct IBAN and BIC reduces the risk. If a transfer is returned, contact Coinepay support.
