The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) sells recurring digital and print subscriptions through its online store, and like most news publishers it bills automatically every period. A Coinepay virtual card gives you an instant card number, expiry date and CVV you can enter at the WSJ checkout, and lets you manage a single subscription from one dashboard. This guide walks through what you need, how to subscribe, and how to work through a declined payment.

Before you start

A WSJ subscription renews automatically, so you are setting up an ongoing charge rather than a one-off purchase. Get these things ready first:

  • A verified Coinepay account. You must register and complete identity (KYC) verification before you can use card services. If you have not done this yet, create your Coinepay account and finish verification in the iOS or Android app.
  • A funded virtual card. Open the Coinepay app or dashboard, create a virtual card, and make sure it has enough balance to cover the first charge plus any renewals. Keep the card number, expiry and CVV handy.
  • Your real billing details. Use the name and billing address that match your Coinepay card record. WSJ notes that sales tax may apply, so the total can be slightly higher than the headline price.
  • A WSJ account email. You will create one during sign-up, or sign in if your email is already registered.

WSJ's offer FAQ states that packages require a credit card and renew automatically, and that introductory pricing is restricted to eligible new subscribers. Coinepay does not disclose its card network or issuing details here; if you are unsure whether your card will be accepted for this purchase, contact Coinepay support to confirm before you buy.

Choose a WSJ plan

On the WSJ store the digital tiers are named WSJ Digital and WSJ+ Premier. Premier adds digital access to Barron's, MarketWatch and Investor's Business Daily Digital alongside the WSJ. There are also print tiers named Monday–Friday & Weekend Print + WSJ Digital (six-day delivery) and Weekend Print + WSJ Digital (weekend delivery).

At the time of writing (October 2026), the U.S. WSJ Digital offer showed $2/week for six months, billed $8 every four weeks, and an annual option of $79 for the first year then $44.99 every four weeks. WSJ+ Premier showed $3/week for six months, billed $12 every four weeks, with an annual option of $119 for the first year then $54.99 every four weeks. These were the U.S. offers visible to our research session and are not guaranteed quotes for every customer; prices and promotions vary by region and change over time, so always confirm the current rate on WSJ's official store page before you pay. The displayed promotional offer stated it was available only in the contiguous U.S.

Step-by-step: subscribe and pay

  1. Open the WSJ store. Go to the official WSJ subscription page and compare the digital and print packages.
  2. Select your package. Pick WSJ Digital, WSJ+ Premier or a print tier, then choose Subscribe Now.
  3. Set up your account. Enter your email to create a WSJ login. If the email is already registered, choose Sign In on the order page to continue the purchase instead of starting a new account.
  4. Enter payment details. On the checkout, type your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV. Enter the billing name and address exactly as they appear on your Coinepay card record.
  5. Review the recurring terms. Confirm the introductory price, the renewal amount and billing cycle (for example, billed every four weeks), and note that sales tax may be added.
  6. Complete any security check. If your card issuer requires 3-D Secure, approve the prompt in your Coinepay app to authorize the charge.
  7. Submit and save your confirmation. After the payment clears you will get an order confirmation. Keep it for your records.

Troubleshooting a declined card

A decline usually comes from the card side rather than a documented WSJ error. Work through these common causes:

Insufficient balance

The charge, including any sales tax, must be fully covered. Open your Coinepay app, check the card balance, and top up if needed. Remember that renewals bill automatically, so keep enough balance for the next cycle too.

Billing address mismatch

Many checkouts compare the billing address you type against the one on file for the card. Re-enter the address, postcode and name exactly as they appear in your Coinepay profile. A small mismatch, such as an abbreviated street name, can trigger a decline.

3-D Secure not completed

If an authentication prompt appears and times out or is dismissed, the payment fails. Make sure app notifications are enabled, retry the purchase, and approve the 3-D Secure request promptly in the Coinepay app.

Merchant region checks

The promotional offer we saw stated it was available only in the contiguous U.S. If an offer is geo-restricted, use the correct store for your location and your real billing details. Do not attempt to disguise your location or use details that are not yours—that breaks WSJ's terms. If you believe your card should work but the charge is rejected, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card is suitable for this purchase.

Card-type or network restrictions

WSJ's offer FAQ specifies credit-card payment, and Dow Jones's terms also discuss debit-card billing. We could not verify a definitive accepted-network list by region. If the checkout rejects your card on type grounds, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets the requirement before you try again, and check WSJ's current store page for accepted methods.

A bank or card decline is not the same as a confirmed WSJ-side error. If the payment keeps failing after the checks above, contact Coinepay support with the date, time and amount so the attempt can be reviewed.

Manage billing, renewals and cancellation

To change the card on file, Dow Jones directs subscribers to the WSJ Customer Center. If you issue a replacement Coinepay virtual card, update the details there before your next renewal date so the subscription is not interrupted.

To cancel, use Customer Center or call WSJ customer service at 1-800-JOURNAL. For monthly and quarterly plans, cancellation stops future charges, takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and does not refund that period; your access continues until then.

WSJ changed its refund terms for six-month and annual subscriptions bought on or after July 9, 2026. For those, cancelling online within the first five or eleven months respectively leaves access running to period-end without a refund; WSJ says to contact its call center for a prorated refund, and its stated final-30-days rule provides no refund. Purchases made before that date have different prorated-refund terms. Review the current policy on WSJ's store page so you know what applies to your plan.

Keep your subscription running smoothly

Because WSJ bills on a recurring cycle, the most reliable approach is to keep your Coinepay virtual card funded ahead of each renewal and watch for the charge in your dashboard. You can review activity any time from the 24/7 self-service dashboard or the Coinepay app. If you ever need help with a payment, reach the team through Coinepay support or Telegram.

FAQ

Which WSJ plans can I pay for with a Coinepay virtual card?

You can enter your Coinepay virtual card at the WSJ checkout for its digital tiers—WSJ Digital and WSJ+ Premier—or its print-plus-digital tiers, provided the offer is available in your region and your card is accepted. Confirm current plans and prices on WSJ's official store page.

What should I do before entering my card at checkout?

Register and complete Coinepay identity verification, create and fund a virtual card with enough balance for the first charge and renewals, and have your real billing name and address ready to match your Coinepay card record.

Why was my Coinepay card declined on WSJ?

Common causes are insufficient balance, a billing address that doesn't match your card record, an incomplete 3-D Secure prompt, or a region-restricted offer. Check each in your Coinepay app. If it still fails, contact Coinepay support with the date, time and amount.

Does WSJ charge sales tax or renew automatically?

Yes. WSJ's FAQ states packages renew automatically and that sales tax may apply, so your total can exceed the headline price. Keep your virtual card funded ahead of each renewal date.

How do I update my card or cancel my WSJ subscription?

Change card details or cancel through WSJ Customer Center, or call customer service at 1-800-JOURNAL. Cancel before your renewal date to avoid the next charge; refund rules vary by plan and purchase date, so review WSJ's current policy.
