A declined card on Facebook (Meta) ads is frustrating because Meta pauses delivery and disables the ad account until the amount due is paid. The good news is that most declines come down to a handful of causes you can work through in order. This guide explains what Meta actually shows you, how to diagnose the problem, and how to add and pay with a Coinepay virtual card if your current method cannot be made to work.

First, read the exact error in Billing & payments

Open Meta Ads Manager → Billing & payments and select the affected ad account. Note two things: the amount due and the exact payment error shown. Meta reports several common failure causes, including an unsupported or inactive method, incorrect expiry or card details, failed card verification, an issuer decline, a connection error, and insufficient funds or a method limit. The wording tells you where to look next.

Accepted payment methods depend on the ad account's country and currency, so a card or local method that works for one country is not automatically available for another. Before you assume a card is broken, confirm it is an option for your specific account.

Check the existing card before replacing it

Many declines are fixable without a new card. Confirm each of the following:

  • Expiry date and security code are entered correctly and the card is still active.
  • Available funds are sufficient and online payments are permitted by your bank.
  • Your per-transaction or bank limit is not below the charge amount.
  • The billing postal code you entered matches the card's billing statement. If Meta cannot verify the card address while you add it, a mismatched postal code is a frequent cause.
  • Card verification steps can require a 3-D Secure prompt or one-time password. If your phone is unreachable or the verification fails, the payment can be declined even when the card has funds.

Meta may also place a temporary authorization hold to check available funds. This is separate from a completed ad charge but can briefly reduce your available balance. If the issuer still declines, ask your bank directly whether it blocked the Meta charge.

When to add a different payment method

If the card cannot be made usable, go to Payment methods → Add payment method and add another option offered for that ad account. To edit payment methods you need full control of the ad account in a business portfolio, or admin permissions if the account's permissions are managed in Ads Manager. Without the right role, the option will not appear.

Note a reported 2026 change: from April 1, 2026, Meta moved some advertisers from card payments to monthly invoicing or direct bank debit. This does not affect every account. Check your own account's billing notice before assuming another card is the right fix.

Paying with a Coinepay virtual card

Coinepay issues virtual cards you can use for online payments such as advertising, with the card number, expiry date and CVV available instantly in your dashboard once you are set up. Here is how to prepare and pay:

  1. Register and complete verification. Create an account at Coinepay and finish identity verification (KYC) before using card services. Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions. You can manage everything from the 24/7 dashboard or the iOS and Android app.
  2. Create or fund your virtual card. Open the card details so you have the number, expiry and CVV ready.
  3. Add the card in Meta. In Payment methods → Add payment method, enter the card details and a billing postal code that matches the card's billing information. Use your real identity and billing details throughout.
  4. Pay the outstanding balance. For an unpaid automatic-billing balance, use Payment methods → Pay now, choose the working method and confirm. Simply saving a new card is not the same as paying the amount due.
  5. Confirm the charge. Check Payment activity for the resulting transaction. A payment made with Pay now can take up to five minutes to appear.

Meta's own accepted-method lists do not establish a blanket yes-or-no rule for virtual or prepaid cards, and a card network logo alone does not confirm a particular card will pass verification. If you are unsure whether your Coinepay card meets Meta's requirement for your account's country and currency, contact Coinepay support to confirm before you buy.

A dedicated card per ad account

If you run several ad accounts, Coinepay lets businesses issue a dedicated virtual card for each one—for example separate cards for Facebook, Google and TikTok—and set custom spending limits per card. This keeps spend organised and makes it easy to see which account each charge belongs to.

Understand automatic payments and thresholds

A card selected for your first ad generally establishes automatic payments if your bank supports recurring charges. On automatic payments, the payment threshold is the spending amount that triggers a charge, and Meta also charges any remaining cost on your monthly bill date. The threshold is not a total ad-spend cap. If your issuer caps individual charges, lowering the automatic-payment threshold to fit that cap is a documented option, though eligibility to change it before the account has spent anything varies by account.

Rules can also differ by region. In India, thresholds may follow Reserve Bank of India e-mandate rules, so India-specific instructions should not be applied to a US account. In the EU/EEA, strong customer authentication may apply when your issuer asks you to verify a payment.

Troubleshooting

Payment succeeded but ads still are not running

After payment or once funds are sufficient, Meta resumes ads that are active or scheduled—not ads you switched off yourself. If delivery still stalls, check the account's spending limits and any separate restriction. Paying a bill is not a confirmed remedy for a policy restriction.

The same error keeps appearing

Re-check the card details and postal code, then ask your issuer whether it is declining the charge. If the error persists, use the support route in Business Support Home; whether Contact support or Request review appears depends on the account.

I want to avoid another interruption

Adding a backup payment method is Meta's documented precaution against interruptions from a failed primary method. Keep the card you use funded and its details current.

My Coinepay card was declined at Meta

Confirm the card is active and funded, the postal code matches, and you completed any 3-D Secure prompt. If it still fails, reach out to Coinepay support through the dashboard or Telegram to review the transaction.

A note on compliance

Use your real identity and real billing details with both Coinepay and Meta. Coinepay card services require identity verification, and services related to virtual assets are not available to residents of mainland China; some services are not available in every jurisdiction. Entering accurate information is also what helps your card pass Meta's verification in the first place.

FAQ

Why does Facebook keep declining my card?

Common causes Meta reports include an unsupported or inactive method, incorrect expiry or card details, failed card verification, an issuer decline, a connection error, and insufficient funds or a method limit. Open Billing & payments to read the exact error, then check the card details, postal code, available funds and any 3-D Secure step, and ask your bank if it blocked the charge.

Will a Coinepay virtual card work for Facebook ads?

Coinepay issues virtual cards you can use for online payments such as advertising. However, Meta's accepted methods depend on your ad account's country and currency, and a card logo alone does not guarantee verification. Contact Coinepay support to confirm your card suits your account before you rely on it.

How do I actually pay the amount I already owe?

Saving a new card does not clear a balance. For an unpaid automatic-billing balance, go to Payment methods → Pay now, select a working method and confirm. Then check Payment activity for the transaction; a Pay now payment can take up to five minutes to appear.

I paid but my ads still are not delivering. Why?

After payment, Meta resumes ads that are active or scheduled, not ones you switched off. If delivery still stalls, check your account's spending limits and any separate restriction—paying a bill does not remove a policy restriction.

Do I need special permissions to change the payment method?

Yes. Editing a payment method requires full control of the ad account in a business portfolio, or admin permissions if the account's permissions are managed in Ads Manager. Without the right role the option will not appear.
