Coinepay Global Remittance supports transfers to Uganda. You can choose a bank deposit, mobile-wallet payout or cash pickup, depending on the options shown for your transfer. This guide explains what to collect from your recipient, how to review the transfer before sending, and what to do if a payout needs attention.

What you need before sending

You need a Coinepay account with completed identity verification. If you are new to Coinepay, register and complete the verification steps in the app or self-service dashboard before starting a transfer. Use your real identity and provide accurate information about the payment. Coinepay may ask for documents concerning the purpose of the transfer or the source of funds.

Ask your recipient for their full legal name exactly as it appears on their bank account, mobile-wallet registration or photo ID, as appropriate. Confirm the payout method they can use and collect its details directly from them. A spelling difference or an old wallet number can interrupt a payout, so check the information with the recipient before you confirm.

Uganda’s local currency is the Ugandan shilling (UGX). Check the sending and receiving currencies displayed for your particular transfer in Coinepay. Do not assume that every payout method offers the same currency choices. The app shows the applicable exchange rate and fees before you confirm.

Choose a payout method in Uganda

Bank-account deposit

For a bank deposit, obtain the recipient’s name as recorded by the bank, their account number and the bank name. Have the branch name available if the transfer instructions request it. Banks operating in Uganda include dfcu and Stanbic, but you should select from the banks or bank-deposit options actually shown for your transfer in Coinepay. Ask the recipient to check their account details in their own banking information rather than relying on a remembered number.

Uganda does not use a national IBAN format. Enter the recipient’s Ugandan bank account number where an account number is requested; do not invent an IBAN or put one together from other bank details. If the selected transfer route requests a local bank or branch code, obtain the exact code from the receiving bank’s instructions rather than guessing it. A direct international bank wire may also call for the bank’s SWIFT/BIC, the beneficiary’s address or payment details. Follow the requirements displayed for your transfer and the receiving bank’s instructions. IFSC, CLABE and a US-style ABA routing number are not standard identifiers for a Ugandan beneficiary account; any intermediary-bank details are separate from the recipient’s account details.

Mobile-wallet payout

Uganda’s main mobile-money options include MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money. If the relevant wallet is offered for your transfer, ask the recipient which provider they use, their wallet number and the full name registered to that wallet. The recipient should have a fully registered, active account and should verify that the number is correct and able to receive a payment. Do not select one wallet provider simply because you have the recipient’s phone number: confirm that the number belongs to the chosen wallet and that its registered name matches the transfer.

Cash pickup

Cash pickup allows a recipient to collect funds from a participating agent rather than receive them in a bank account or wallet. Select an available pickup option and location in the transfer flow, then enter the recipient’s legal name exactly as it appears on their valid photo ID. The recipient will generally need that ID and the pickup reference to collect the money. Share the reference privately after it becomes available, and make sure the recipient checks the agent location and any collection instructions shown for the transfer before traveling.

How to send money to Uganda with Coinepay

  1. Sign in to a verified account. Open the Coinepay mobile app or 24/7 self-service dashboard and start a Global Remittance transfer. Complete any outstanding identity-verification request before proceeding.
  2. Choose Uganda and the currencies. Select Uganda as the destination, enter the amount and choose from the sending and receiving currency options displayed. If you want the recipient to receive Ugandan shillings, check whether UGX is offered for the selected payout route.
  3. Select the payout method. Choose bank deposit, a listed mobile wallet or cash pickup. Enter the recipient’s full legal name and the information required for that method. For a bank payout, use the recipient’s actual account and bank details; for a wallet, confirm the registered name and number; for pickup, verify the name against the recipient’s photo ID.
  4. Review before confirming. Read the exchange rate, fees, amount and recipient details shown in Coinepay. Check the destination, currency, payout method and every account, wallet or pickup detail. If something is wrong, correct it before confirming.
  5. Confirm and track. Confirm the transfer only after the details are correct. You can track its status in Coinepay. Keep the transfer information available in case you or your recipient need to ask about a payout.

The fields and options you see may depend on the transfer route and local requirements. If you are unsure which bank code or receiving instruction applies, ask the recipient to obtain it from their bank before you send. Do not replace a missing required detail with an estimate.

What the recipient should know

For a bank deposit, the recipient should confirm that the account is active and that the account name matches the name you entered. Their bank may have its own receiving instructions or ask them for information about an incoming payment. For mobile money, the recipient should confirm that their MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money registration is active and that the registered name and wallet number match. For cash pickup, they should keep their valid photo ID and pickup reference ready and follow the participating agent’s instructions.

Transfers to Uganda are subject to identity verification, sanctions screening and local regulations. Uganda requires relevant foreign-exchange transactions to pass through appropriately licensed entities, and payment-chain information about the sender and beneficiary may be required. Coinepay or an institution involved in the payout may request supporting documents, such as evidence of the payment’s purpose or source of funds. If asked, provide accurate documents through the requested channel.

Reporting duties that apply to institutions handling international transfers should not be mistaken for a general requirement that every recipient personally report an incoming remittance. Likewise, a rule about large cash transactions is not a general cap on bank deposits. A recipient with questions about their own tax or reporting obligations should seek advice appropriate to their circumstances.

Troubleshooting a Uganda transfer

  • Wrong recipient details: If you notice an incorrect account number, bank, wallet number or name after confirming, check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly with the transfer details. Do not assume a submitted transfer can still be edited or stopped. An incorrect bank detail or name mismatch may cause the receiving institution to reject the payout.
  • Compliance review: If the transfer is paused for information, check Coinepay for a request and provide the accurate sender, recipient, purpose-of-payment or source-of-funds documents requested. Do not resend the same payment to try to bypass a review.
  • Unexpected delay: Check status tracking first. A receiving bank’s processing, weekends, public holidays or technical issues can affect a payout. For wallet or cash pickup, ask the recipient to verify their registration or collection details. Contact support if the status needs clarification.
  • Returned transfer: Check the status and ask support what caused the return before starting another transfer. Confirm the recipient’s name and payout details with the bank or wallet provider, then review any new transfer’s rate and fees before confirming it.
  • Cash pickup problem: Ask the recipient to check the participating agent location, pickup reference and name on their photo ID against the transfer instructions. If those details appear correct but collection is refused, contact support rather than changing the recipient’s identity details.

Coinepay does not serve sanctioned persons or residents of jurisdictions under comprehensive sanctions. Every transfer is subject to the applicable screening and local requirements. For help with an available payout option or a transfer already in progress, use Coinepay support.

FAQ

Does a Ugandan recipient need an IBAN?

No. Uganda has no national IBAN format. For a bank deposit, use the recipient’s actual account number and the bank details requested for the transfer.

Can I send to MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money in Uganda?

Select either wallet if it is offered for your transfer. Confirm the recipient has an active, fully registered wallet and enter its correct number and matching registered name.

What does a recipient need for cash pickup?

They generally need the pickup reference and a valid photo ID whose name matches the transfer. They should also check the participating agent location and collection instructions.

What if I entered the wrong Uganda bank account number?

Check the transfer status and contact Coinepay support promptly. Do not assume the details can be changed after confirmation; the receiving bank may reject an incorrect payout.
