Squarespace sells website subscriptions on four current plans — Basic, Core, Plus, and Advanced — and bills them in advance through your site's billing panel. If you want to keep your website spending on a dedicated card, a Coinepay virtual card gives you an instant card number, expiry date and CVV you can enter at the Squarespace checkout. This guide covers what you need, the exact sign-up and checkout steps, and how to troubleshoot a declined card.
What you need before you start
- A verified Coinepay account. Register, complete identity verification (KYC), and open a virtual card in the Coinepay dashboard or the mobile app (iOS / Google Play).
- Enough balance on the card to cover the plan plus any tax Squarespace adds at checkout. Annual plans are charged for the full year upfront, so budget for the whole amount, not the monthly-equivalent figure.
- Your real billing details — name, address and country — matching the information on your Coinepay account. Squarespace uses your location at first payment to set your billing currency, and that currency cannot be changed later.
- A Squarespace account with a trial site ready to upgrade.
Squarespace lists American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB, Mastercard and Visa as accepted subscription card brands, and says eligible prepaid cards from those brands can pay new charges (but not past-due invoices). Squarespace does not accept cryptocurrency, checks, direct deposit or purchase orders for subscription billing. Because card-brand and country eligibility can vary, contact Coinepay support to confirm your card meets these requirements before you buy.
Squarespace plans and prices
At the time of writing (October 2026), the US-dollar website-plan prices shown on Squarespace's pricing page were: Basic $25 monthly or $19/month billed annually; Core $39 or $29; Plus $65 or $49; Advanced $139 or $99. The annual figures are monthly equivalents paid as one upfront charge for the year.
Prices vary by region. For example, the pricing page observed in Brazilian reais showed different figures and did not display the Plus plan at all. Local-currency prices for other markets were not confirmed, so do not convert the USD numbers into a local quote. Always check the live total on Squarespace's official pricing and checkout pages for your location before paying.
Step 1: Start your trial site
Begin a 14-day website trial on Squarespace and build your site. During the trial the site stays private — it is not published until you buy a paid website plan and publish it. Set up the pages you need first so you can publish immediately after paying.
Step 2: Open the subscribe flow
From your trial site, select Subscribe, then choose your plan (Basic, Core, Plus or Advanced). Note that existing customers may still see legacy plans such as Personal, Business, Commerce Basic or Commerce Advanced; new sign-ups use the current four.
Step 3: Choose your billing cycle
Pick annual or monthly. Both cycles are paid in advance. Annual billing lowers the monthly-equivalent price but takes the full year as a single charge, so make sure your Coinepay card balance covers that larger amount plus tax.
Step 4: Enter billing details and your card
- Fill in your billing details exactly as they appear on your Coinepay account.
- Choose credit or debit card as the payment method and enter your Coinepay virtual card number, expiry date and CVV. You can copy these from the card screen in the Coinepay app or dashboard.
- Review the Due today amount and the renewal date shown on screen.
- Confirm the payment.
Applicable tax is added at checkout, so the amount charged may be slightly higher than the headline plan price. Once payment succeeds, publish your site so it goes live.
Step 5: Manage billing after you subscribe
Your site's Billing panel shows subscriptions, renewal details and invoices. To switch the card used for future charges, open Payment information and enter your new Coinepay card details. Domains are billed separately in the Domains dashboard, so update those payment details there if needed.
Tip: keep enough balance on your Coinepay card ahead of each renewal date. If a renewal charge fails, a website normally stays active during a 15-day grace period while you fix the payment.
Troubleshooting a declined card
Squarespace shows specific messages when a charge fails. Here is what they usually mean and how to respond.
| What you see | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| "Purchase error" | The bank authorization failed, which can include an EEA strong-customer-authentication (3-D Secure) approval that did not complete. | Complete any verification prompt from Coinepay, then retry. Check for approval requests in the Coinepay app. |
| "Subscription failed" | An incorrect expiry date or CVC, or another bank decline. | Re-enter the exact expiry and CVV from your Coinepay card and confirm the balance covers the full charge plus tax. |
| Red invalid-card warning | The card number was entered incorrectly. | Copy the number again from the Coinepay app to avoid typos. |
Insufficient balance
Annual plans charge the whole year at once and tax is added on top. Top up your Coinepay card so it covers the full Due today figure, not just the monthly-equivalent price, then retry.
Billing address mismatch
Enter the billing name, address and country that match your Coinepay account. A mismatch can trigger a bank decline. Use your real details — do not enter a false address to work around a regional check.
3-D Secure / strong customer authentication
If a charge needs extra verification, approve it through the Coinepay app when prompted. If you miss the prompt, the charge can appear as a "Purchase error" — retry and complete the approval promptly.
Currency and region checks
Your subscription currency is set by your location at first payment and cannot be changed afterwards. Squarespace also notes card-brand currency limits (for example, Discover charges in USD), and some alternative methods are region-locked: PayPal is for non-US residents only, SEPA direct debit needs a EUR account in the SEPA area, and Link is US-only. If a decline looks region-related, confirm the plan currency at checkout and that your card brand is eligible. Contact Coinepay support if you need to confirm your card details before trying again.
Cancellations and refunds
To stop a plan, open the site's Billing panel, select the subscription and choose Cancel subscription; monthly and annual service normally runs until the end of the paid cycle. Other subscriptions (such as domains) are cancelled separately. Under Squarespace's stated standard policy, an annual website subscription cancelled within 14 days of purchase can get a full refund on request, minus the cost of any claimed free domain; monthly plans, renewals and annual cancellations after 14 days are not refunded. Check Squarespace's current refund policy for the latest terms.

FAQ
Can I pay for Squarespace with a Coinepay virtual card?
You can enter a Coinepay virtual card at the Squarespace subscription checkout like any card. Squarespace accepts American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB, Mastercard and Visa, and says eligible prepaid cards from those brands can pay new charges. Confirm with Coinepay support that your card meets Squarespace's requirements before buying.
Does Squarespace charge the whole year at once on an annual plan?
Yes. Annual and monthly cycles are both paid in advance, and the annual plan takes the full year as one upfront charge plus applicable tax. Make sure your Coinepay card balance covers the total shown as 'Due today', not just the monthly-equivalent price.
Why was my card declined at Squarespace checkout?
Common causes are insufficient balance, an incorrect expiry date or CVC, a billing address mismatch, or an incomplete 3-D Secure approval (often shown as 'Purchase error'). Re-check your details, approve any verification in the Coinepay app, and confirm enough balance, then retry.
Can I change my Squarespace billing currency later?
No. Squarespace sets your subscription currency based on your location at the first payment, and it cannot be changed afterwards. Some card brands also have currency limits, such as Discover charging in USD, so check the currency at checkout before confirming.
How do I update the card used for Squarespace renewals?
Open your site's Billing panel, go to Payment information, and enter your new Coinepay virtual card details. Domains are billed separately in the Domains dashboard, so update the card there too if needed. Keep enough balance before each renewal date.
