You can start using Descript on its Free plan without a card. If you want a paid plan, this guide explains how to prepare a Coinepay virtual card, choose the right Descript Drive and complete checkout. Card payment remains subject to Descript’s checkout checks and approval of the transaction.
What you need before paying
- A Descript account. Sign up at web.descript.com using Google or an email one-time passcode. If you sign up by email, you can set a password afterward.
- A Coinepay account with completed identity verification. Register with Coinepay and complete KYC before using its card services. Card issuance and fund services are provided by licensed partner financial institutions.
- Your virtual card details and available funds. Coinepay provides a card number, expiry date and CVV. Check the Coinepay app or dashboard for the details and make sure you have enough available to cover the amount shown at Descript checkout, including any applicable tax.
- Your real billing information. Use your own name and accurate billing address. Review the billing details associated with your card rather than guessing at a postal code or country.
Some Coinepay services are not available in every jurisdiction. Descript also says its Stripe-processed checkout does not support every country. If your country is not available in Descript’s payment form, do not select a different country to get around that restriction.
Choose a Descript plan and billing cycle
Descript’s current public plans are Free, Hobbyist, Creator, Business and Enterprise. It also offers an eligibility-based Non-profit / Education plan, sometimes called EDU/NFP. Paid subscriptions are billed per Editor, and each Descript Drive has its own separately billed subscription. Before checkout, check that you are changing the plan for the intended Drive and that the Editor-seat count is correct.
At the time of writing (October 2026), Descript lists these US prices. Check Descript’s official pricing page and your checkout total for current pricing; prices and available currency options may differ by location.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0; no card required to start | Not applicable |
| Hobbyist | $24 per person/month | $16 per person/month, billed at $192 per year |
| Creator | $35 per person/month | $24 per person/month, billed at $288 per year |
| Business | $65 per person/month | $50 per person/month, billed at $600 per year |
| Enterprise | Custom pricing; contact Descript sales | Custom pricing; contact Descript sales |
At the time of writing (October 2026), the eligible Non-profit / Education plan is listed at $12 per Editor/month on monthly billing or $8 per Editor/month on annual billing ($96 per year). It includes Hobbyist features, allows up to three Editor seats per Drive, and requires eligibility and approval. Check Descript’s official plan information before applying. Applicable US sales taxes may be added; outside the US, local tax obligations may apply. Where Descript offers a local-currency price, checkout may let you choose between that currency and USD. Review the displayed amount and currency before confirming.
How to subscribe with your Coinepay virtual card
- Sign in to Descript. Open web.descript.com and sign in with your Google account or email one-time passcode. If you are new, create your account first; you can begin on Free without entering payment details.
- Open the correct Drive’s plan settings. In Descript, go to App Settings → Plan → Change plan for the Drive you want to upgrade. The Drive-name menu can also take you to settings on the Plan tab.
- Review the subscription. In the browser checkout, select your plan, number of Editor seats and monthly or annual billing. Check the total, currency and any tax. Annual billing is a yearly commitment shown as a per-month equivalent on the pricing page, so check what will be charged now.
- Enter your card and billing details. Retrieve the virtual card number, expiry date and CVV from your Coinepay app or self-service dashboard. Enter the details in Descript’s card-payment form with your real billing information. Review every digit and the postal code before proceeding.
- Complete any payment check and confirm. If an authentication prompt appears, follow its instructions. Complete the purchase using Descript’s Save changes action. Wait for checkout confirmation and then check App Settings → Plan to verify the intended Drive’s plan and seat count.
Descript confirms card payment for standard paid and EDU/NFP plans, but the payment options displayed to you depend on its checkout. A Coinepay virtual card is not a guarantee that Descript will accept a particular transaction. If you need to confirm a card requirement before buying, contact Coinepay support.
If Descript declines the card
A failed payment does not always identify its cause. Read the message on Descript’s checkout screen, check whether a charge or temporary authorization appears in your Coinepay account, and avoid repeatedly submitting the same unchanged details. Work through these checks:
- Insufficient available balance. Compare your available funds with the complete checkout amount, not just the advertised per-month price. Account for the annual charge if you selected annual billing, extra Editor seats and any applicable tax. Descript may also place a temporary $0 or $1 verification hold when you add a new card; a declined verification can prevent the card from being saved.
- Card details or billing address mismatch. Recheck the card number, expiry, CVV and billing postal code. Descript identifies mistyped details, expired or unactivated cards, insufficient funds and issuer declines as possible failure reasons. Use your genuine billing address; do not substitute a different country or invented postal code.
- 3-D Secure or another authentication prompt. If checkout asks you to authenticate, complete the prompt as presented. If it closes, times out or never arrives, check your Coinepay app for a relevant notification and contact Coinepay support for help investigating the payment. Do not assume that every Descript card payment will use the same authentication flow.
- Merchant region checks. Make sure your selected country and billing details reflect your actual circumstances. Descript says not every country is supported by its checkout. If your country is absent from the payment form or checkout rejects the location, ask Descript about its availability and contact Coinepay support if you need help understanding a card decline. Neither changing your address nor using another person’s details is an appropriate fix.
- Issuer decline or unclear result. Check whether the subscription became active under App Settings → Plan before trying again. If the failure persists, give Coinepay support the transaction time, amount and any message shown, without sending your full card number or CVV. You can also ask Descript support to investigate its checkout.
Manage payment details, invoices and cancellation
After subscribing, the Drive owner can update the saved card under App Settings → Profile → Billing details → Payment method → Edit. Plan and Editor-seat settings are under App Settings → Plan. Descript processes subscription charges at the start of a Drive’s billing cycle; adding Editors or moving to a higher tier can produce a prorated charge. Find invoices under App Settings → Invoices—Descript says it does not email them.
To cancel a paid plan, use App Settings → Plan → Change plan → Downgrade to Free, provide the required reason and continue until you see confirmation. The paid plan remains active through the current billing term. Cancellation alone does not give a prorated refund for unused monthly or annual time. Descript says plan-purchase refunds can be requested within 48 hours of the invoice date, while additional Editor-seat refund requests have a seven-day window; contact Descript support from your account email address. Media Minute and AI Credit top-ups are non-refundable.
